My Dad was king of the one liners most were X rated LOL! Going over a cliff it is not the fall that kills you, it is the sudden stop at the end.

So I was looking through some wildlife art and came across the photo below which looked very familiar to me but I could not quite place it. After jogging my memory (easier to remember long ago than recently LOL) I remembered if was from a story called "Saga Of The Red One" about Wolves. I did an online search and it was published in 1955 in Sports Afield and written by Russell Anabelle and that is where I read it as my Dad had a subscription to the magazine. I can remember asking my Dad questions pertaining to that series and helping me with the words. The one thing that stuck in my mind was the main character "LOBO SMITH" a wolf hunter who poked some sort of catching pole down into a Wolf den and pulled out all the cubs and killed them, I was madder than a hornet that he did that. So for old times sake I went over to ebay and started buying old 1955 Sports Afields found four so far and got the first one today. Ahhh Nostalgia can be great sometimes. Al

2013 Blue Book 100%- 98% -95%-90%-80%-70%-60% Mohawk Brown $400-$350-$300-$260-$230-$200-$175 Black Diamond $500- $450-$400-$350-$300-$260-$230 Apache Black $575-$525-$450-$400-$350-$300-$260 My magazine fed 77 model with the green stock was made for KMart is only worth a couple of hundred. I prefer it over the stock tube feed models because I always carried it unloaded when Coon hunting for safety, too much tripping and falling running around at night in the woods for me to carry loaded. At the tree I would just slip in a magazine and was good to go. Al

Dan, You were around to remember Remington's promo with Tom Frye's record shooting wooden blocks using the Nylon 66 http://www.nylonrifles.com/wp/2013/02/the-most-famous-nylon-66/

I will go along with the fellow in the video in that it comes down to how the ammo was stored, if stored under proper conditions it remains viable for a good long time. I posted here a couple of years ago about shooting some of my reloads that were close to fifty years old, they shot reliably and the accuracy was basically the same as what it was the day I loaded it. A good find Dan, over on "Rimfire Central" the Remington Nylon 66 has a fanatical cult following, the rifle is a classic and Hall Of Fame rifle in my opinion. I made a post a few years ago about my green stocked Nylon 77 which is the clip fed version, used it for Coon hunting many many years and it took some beating during that time, it held up well and still looks good and never skipped a beat when it came to the moment of truth. The portable small Honda generators can be used for so many things, I have a small garage out in back of my house that I use mostly for storage. It has no power going to it but I do have a solar light setup that works fairly well so I can maneuver around in there at night. For 85.00 I have installed a Reliance through the wall generator outlet and use a 30 amp adapter plug so I can hookup the little Honda 2200 generator with a regular power cord for the rare occasion where I might need some power in there. I have a bigger 5500 watt job if things need to get serious. This Reliance setup would be a good low cost home option for anyone that does not have backup for power outages. Also my fishing partner and I are going to try out the generator and LED work lights this spring for some Bullhead fishing and leave the lanterns home. These baby's turn the night into day. Al

I can not comment on the Champion brand as I know nothing about them, I can vouch for the Honda brand, Motorcycles, Truck and two generators all have been outstanding with superb reliability and very durable. I say if you are in it for the long haul you will not be sorry to have purchased a Honda anything. Al

Who makes the Best $2000 rifles
airedale replied to Hunter007's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
When you get into that price range I would say most manufacturers will be putting out some pretty good stuff and will probably be reliable. More than anything else it will boil down to preferences of an action, it's styling and aesthetics, a Winchester Model 70 "Super Grade" in a caliber I like would satisfy me and substantially less than 2000.00 Shotguns are a different matter especially when it comes to doubles which I have a strong liking for but am short in the cash department. Been thinking seriously about a new O/U for a long time, I think if I had two grand laying around for a new double it would have to be the American made Connecticut Revelation 20ga over and under for 1995.00 Al -
I do not know the values on any of them Storm, I collect them because the articles, photos-illustrations and writers back in those days are so much better than today, and that is where the value is for me. Today's outdoor magazines are nothing more than a catalog of ads. Al

Yes I do, I have a collection of old "Outdoor Life", "Sports Afield" and "Field and Stream" magazines, some go back into the 30s. I pick them up on ebay from time to time and they read now better than ever. Al

Couple Of New Blades
airedale replied to airedale's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Needed it like a hole in the head, found another knife made by Jack Hawk, a little cape-skinning job used but in decent condition with a few scratches on the blade from an ill fitting sheath. All Jack's knives I have seen so far have they same hallmarks, file work on the top of the blade with scalloping on the upper sides. For 5 years I could not locate one of his knives for sale and now in the last 6 months I find two, oh well at least I got it for a decent price. Al -
I for one do not dislike him, actually I get a kick out of Storm's posts which livens things up and creates conversation on this board, instead of taking cheap shots my advice is if you do not care what he or anyone else has to say do not participate in the threads and posts they make or at the least keep things civil with any rebuttal you may have. I have always felt that it is a bad idea to have publicly promoted contests pertaining to hunting because of the way it would be viewed by the animal rights groups and portrayed by them at every turn to the non hunting public who outnumber us by a huge margin. The non hunting public does not have the same mindset or knowledge as hunters and get fed info that such events are nothing more than wanton killing of innocent animals, even though by law it is perfectly legal just to win a some prize or trophy at the expense of animal's life . Not good public relations for hunters. Fishing has had somewhat of a pass because it is catch, keep alive and release back into the water after weigh in, but there are still those that would shut it down if they could. Al

Back around 1970 my Dad and myself did an 10 day old fashioned Mule and Horse pack train Elk hunt in Colorado, no motorized equipment of any kind. We hunted from Horseback out of wall tent base camps in some wild country and I still consider it to have been the trip and experience of my lifetime. We had about a twenty mile ride into the mountains to get to our camp and I learned what the term "saddle sore" means, after a few days I was broke in lol. We both got an elk by the way. Al

Couple Of New Blades

Congrats, "Case one of the last quality American knife brands hanging on, I have a few Case pocket knives myself and they are darned good ones that will last a lifetime. Al -
They love cedar, I have a cedar in my yard that does not have a branch on it's trunk below 7 feet from Deer hitting it. Al

I just watched that movie a short time ago, Sherriff Rosco P Coltrane (James Best) was the hero! Festus was a jerk and got killed.

So the wife comes in the gun room and spots the new Ka-Bar on my desk and she and I have a conversation about it's history. She is actually interested in this stuff and in fact one of her favorite shows to watch is Forged In Fire where Blade Smiths make all sorts of edged weapons from scratch and have them tested by the expert panel on how well they perform. So she has the Ka-Bar in her hand looking it over and gives me the show's weapon expert Doug Marcaida's line after he disembowels a ballistic gelatin dummy, "This Blade Will Kill"!

Still acquiring components for the Squirrel Rifle, found some 32 cal Maxi Balls that come in at 110 grs, because of the medium twist in this rifle's barrel I think there is a good chance these will shoot half way decent and add quite a bit more power and range for varmints like Fox and Chucks. Use these Maxi Balls in my 45 cal guns and have always lubed with TC "Bore Butter" which works as it should. Going to do a little experiment tumble lubing this batch of bullets with liquid Alox. This stuff is not as messy, it is very similar to the lube used on 22 rimfire bullets. I did up 250 32s and 20 45s to try, takes about 24 hrs to dry. If they do lead it will be simple enough to relube them with Bore Butter. Al

Well that did not take very long, the Ka-Bar was in the mailbox this morning, I am impressed, "fearsome" is what comes to mind and I am so happy to have a genuine NY made Ka-Bar USMC in my collection. The reviews on these Ka-Bar knives from over two thousand verified Amazon buyers speaks for itself. While the Ka-Bar will be for looking at and admiring I do have a hard use bush type knife that I have used quite a bit in the past in camp and on outdoor outings. It is an old Schrade Uncle Henry survival type that I have owned for around fifty years. These also were made in NY back then and are of very good quality, she still looks pretty good after all that time and I just put some Obenauf's on the sheath. Al
