Having spent a good part of my life training hunting dogs I totally agree they can detect human's mental state and emotions, but then again they are in your presence and are watching you when these things occur. I do know that Deer and other animals like cattle, sheep and goats have eyesight with the ability to detect the very slightest movement. Al https://deerassociation.com/facts-about-deer-vision/

I used many that are listed and a bunch that are not, most of my rifle killed Deer have been with a 280 Remington out of a light weight bolt action sporter. Al

I was not referring to Deer aware of my presence, I have stared at and watched Deer countless times while hunting, I have never had one detect me unless I did something to make them aware of me. If I get busted it is because of what I mentioned above, a change in the wind, some movement or a noise I made, not because of some mystical telepathy that I was watching them. Al

Deer go into an alert mode because they either heard something not right, smelled something or saw some movement. That they have some kind of mental telepathy that alerts them to something of danger watching them sounds like a crock to me. Al

Handloading is like most endeavors in life, with experience and practice your skills will become honed, sounds like your 243 handload is doing performance wise exactly what you hoped for, congrats. Your 30-06 loads will come around once you get things figured out. These days with all the new manuals along with huge online data resources that can be printed out makes for much easier acquisition of accurate load recipes that perform great. I have been delving into the 264 cal cartridges and all the hard work has been done by reloading experts, I take their load recommendations and use them for a starting point and tweak them for my particular firearm with good success. Glad to see she has come around and got that first one out of the way, congrats to her and you. Al -
Have some trails that go through the woods on the backside of my property, back there scouting and doing some Squirrel hunting I could see that they were starting to get grown over pretty good with saplings, weeds and brush. So this morning I got out my DR mower and went at it, it will give you a good workout but what a nice job that thing does. It has been one of the better purchases I have ever made and well worth having if you have property to maintain. Have to get back in there with the tractor and chainsaw now to cut up and remove some storm downed trees. Not seeing a whole lot of Deer sign, plenty of Turkeys and Squirrels. Al

What type of tree is this?

Yes, I have seen some crab apples that look similar. Al -

Hard to tell from the picture but it may be some sort of wild cherry. Al -
I see there was a fellow that broke the state Largemouth record this year also.

A buddy of mine will be picking me up and we will be heading to the show this morning, a good day for it as this 80 plus degree weather will be putting a damper on my hunting, looking at the upcoming forecast for the next week she looks to be a bit too hot for me. Al

Hey Paula there is no better tune up for Deer season than hitting the timber and still hunting for Squirrels, good luck young lady. Al

Congrats, That equipment may be vintage but it was top of the line stuff in it's day, while they are a bit heavier than today's stuff and a bit slower they would still be very effective in the hands of an archer that knows how to use them. I have no experience with Golden Eagle equipment but I know it is of very good quality. As for the bottom bow, it looks to be a Bear Alaskan, it was their top of the line bow back in the day and I have one hanging here in my gun room, I still get the old gal out every now and then and sling a few arrows. All of my archery equipment is of the same era, at this stage of the game it is plenty good enough for me. Al

I think your self diagnosis is pretty much on the money. Al

Squirrel number one, The season is long so I will only take one per day, this guy instead of being eaten he will be going into the freezer intact and will be used as a training aid for my young Airedale "Ruff". When I am done he will be able to associate those Squirrel tracks he finds in the woods with what is actually making them. I always try to use real animals when training instead of bottled scents. Al

Freaks of Four Seasons.

Man that is pretty messy, wonder if there is any pain involved. Al -
I just want to give a quick report on these Ruag Large Rifle primers, I have tested quite a few handloads made up using them and I am happy to say their reliability has been 100% and the accuracy has been as good as what I get with American brands. So if you see them available do not be afraid to buy and use them. Al

So is this Forum still unmanned and rudderless?

Many are still visiting daily, they have logged off and visit as guests. Al -
Man, that is a big slab for sure! Al

It is kind of a pain in the ass but I figured it out and got mine. I believe you still can go to a license issuing agent and get your permits. Al

Tested the 541 with three different brands of ammo high and standard velocity and everything grouping great. That is one thing I love about this 541S, it is not real picky with ammo like some rifles I have. When the leaves come down so I can see something I will be ready. Al

With all the leaves still on the trees and underbrush visibility is very limited, early in the Squirrel season it is tough spotting them much less getting a shot especially with a 22. Usually, I hunt them with a shotgun early in the season for that reason, but I am hitting the woods with my pup and want to introduce him to gunfire with something that is easy on the ears. I don't think gun shyness is going to be any kind of problem with this guy, he was outdoors with me today on the shooting range while I was testing some 22 ammo and he was all good. Al -
That is a heck of a deal, those safes can be a real bear to move. Back when I worked in my buddy's gun shop he sold Browning safes, they were massive and heavy, it would take 4 guys to make a delivery to our customers. Congrats to you and your Dad. Al

Am I surprised? In today's world Hell no! Al

Every now and then I make a purchase of a highly hyped product that exceeds my expectations. This little Garmin Xero Chronograph is one of those purchases, it is so simple and convenient to use compared to my Pact. I just love the thing. I use it every time I hit the range and it provides me with much eye opening data on what kind of ammo I am producing. One of the best purchases for me that I have ever made, a triple thumbs up. Al
