  3. From the time when I first saw this cartridge released a few years ago I was interested and the more I read about it the more I knew a rifle chambered in it was in my future. I have been collecting and studying loading data for several months so when the time came to take the plunge I was going to be prepared. There are several powders that can be used in this cartridge getting decent performance, 6.5 Stabill HD, 4831, and Ramshot Magnum will work but Hodgdon US 869 is the go to powder for this way overbore case. It will develop almost 200 fps more across the board with most bullets over the other available powders So the components have been trickling in this week, I have the well made Norma cases prepped and primed with CCI 250 large rifle mag primers. I will be using a fairly new bullet design from Sierra called the "GameKing Gamechanger" weighing 130 grs, the US 869 powder will push these babies to 3600 fps, "wicked fast" The powder will be here tomorrow so I can finish things up and hit the range. Will report some results soon. Al
  4. Yikes!, What a mess, "Red" an Airedale is under all that mud, same fellow that owned Donnie up above hunted this guy in a swamp where he caught up to a big sow Hog in a mud hole and held her there. Al
  5. The areas I hunt just does not seem to be the right habitat to support them. Al
  6. Have spent much of my life in the outdoors and have yet to come across and actually see a Bobcat. Al
  7. Yes, Components can be purchased online and shipped to your home. My 6.5X300 Weatherby components came this morning. Al
  8. I would think it tastes pretty much the same as Caribou which is darn good as far as I am concerned, enjoy! Al
  9. I am going to punch out holes on the edge of all my tags and reenforce the holes with those binder circles on both sides, I will use small zip ties to attach and carry everything in this small fairly weather proof card-license wallet. Al
  10. I am looking at it on a 27 inch high definition computer monitor, I can enlarge the photo and it still looks like a bird's wing, in fact even more so. Al
  11. Pretty sure it is a bird's wing. Al
  12. Deep Swamp Donnie was owned by an animal control guy out in California and a member of my Airedale message board, Donnie had his origins from my line of Airedales and I was quite proud of him. A little testimonial from his owner.
  13. Here she is so far, removed the Howa two stage trigger and I installed a single stage Timney trigger, mounted up a Simmons 44Mag 6x20 for my initial ammo trials. The mounts are one piece American made DNZ Game Reapers and they are of very good quality. If the Simmons holds up I just may leave it on but if it does not work out I have a 6.5x18 Leupold waiting in the wings. Waiting for the rest of my components to come in so I can load up a couple of sizzling batches of ammo. Also have a muzzle brake coming from Weatherby. Been looking at this cartridge since it came out a few years back and finally got me one, this is going to be fun. Al
  14. Nice catch and good eating! Al
  15. The Black Diamond got a new set of clothes today, picked up a like new camo stock and put it on replacing the plain Jane black. Will be doing a bit more shooting with the See-All sight to make sure it will work for me, if it does not measure up I will be mounting a little 2 1/2 Leupold on her.
  16. That is just scratching the surface, I could add enough stuff to triple that list. Al
  17. The Weatherby Sporter 6.5X300 mag, will be here tomorrow. Should have her rocking and rolling by the end of the week. Al
  18. Got the new Hawke air rifle scope mounted and sighted in, all is well. Al
  19. When it comes to air guns I am an admitted neophyte with plenty to learn especially when it comes to scoping the springer-gas piston type, but I am learning fast! So I decided to get a dedicated air rifle scope for my new Weihrauch, something where the parallax could be adjusted to the closer ranges air rifle are practically used at. Now I know that the back and forth shock of these types of air rifles are tough on scopes so I got on Amazon and started looking at dedicated air rifle scopes and the reviews form shooters that bought them. The first thing that became apparent to me was most were selling for under $100 and well under $100. Should have been a red flag as the old saying goes "you get what you pay for"! Instead I went along with the reviews giving these cheap scopes stellar performance. I should have known better but I bought a $80 air rifle scope that many shooters raved about saving myself a few bucks. Mounted the scope on the rifle and hit the range with four different types of pellets, I did not get too far into that shooting session before the elevation adjustment stopped working in both directions!!!. Soooo, took the piece of junk off and contacted Amazon for a return and refund which went through without a hitch. Let me say I was pissed off but at myself more than the piece of crap scope! So more research was done and this time I went to some air gun sites and asked around, a moderately priced Hawke scope kept getting recommended so I put in the order and that one should be here tomorrow, if this one craps out I will shoot the rifle with open sights! Live and Learn!! Al
  20. So the wife was doing some mowing with a walk behind and stirred up a ground Hornet's nest that was just built under my snow pusher blade, she got nailed a couple of times on her leg. Nothing new around here, through the years I have attacked and stung several times when mowing, those suckers will chase you right into your house. They seem to build those nests fast because one minute there are none and the next time mowing you catch their wrath. I have found the best way to get them is at night, dig out the top layer of dirt to get at the nest and pour some gas on it and touch it off. This time I used that strong vinegar weed killer concoction I made up for poison ivy and that seemed to do them in pretty well. I like the idea in the video below except I do not own a bee proof suit. al
  21. Getting back to the Weihrauch, the little 2 1/2 X Leupold is a great scope that can take the double jolt of the gas piston but it's parallax setting is in the 150 yd range. I can see the crosshair wanting to wander at short air gun ranges. I have to concentrate and make sure I have to hold on my target exactly the same every shot. There is a way to adjust the parallax down to short ranges but I think I am going to end up putting this scope on my TC inline black powder rifle so I will leave it as it is. I have a dedicated air rifle scope coming with adjustable parallax and I believe the Weihrauch's groups will tighten up a bit and be on par with the Benjamin. Al
  22. Back when I purchased my tractor I checked out my homeowner's and had to purchase extra insurance to cover the tractor. Al
  23. Hit the range this morning with both the Weihrauch and the Benjamin Marauder both are 25 cal, the Benjamin is a PCP charged rifle. When the dust was settled the Benjamin proved to be the hands down winner as far as performance goes. The Garmin chrono showed It's velocity topped the Weihrauch's by over 200 FPS and it also shot the tightest groups. That being said it does carry some significant disadvantages, being a PCP gun it had to be either pumped up by hand which is a nightmare or pumped up using a compressor which makes things much easier, good for a dozen full powered shots, it is also magazine fed. The Weihrauch just has to have the barrel broke down and cocked, loaded singly, it will build your muscles for sure. The Weihrauch prefers a heavy pellet, The Benjamin will shoot several weights half way decent. They are different but I like them both and they are fun to shoot at a reasonable price per shot. Al
