  1. I am pretty disappointed in anything made using Gortex, billed as being waterproof I have found it to be anything but! Be it a jacket, pants or boots they all were far from being waterproof, better than nothing I suppose but not by much! Al
  2. Going to start calling you the "Deerslayer" Al
  3. Same for me, I am not going anywhere! Al
  4. I am expecting results to be similar to yours wolc, I never had spectacular accuracy with any shotgun firing foster type slugs, especially from barrels that are choked. If I can find a slug that will group say four inches at 50 yards out of one of the barrels and get it hitting to the point of aim I would be satisfied and could make it work in a pinch. To be truthful I ain't holding my breath, still it is the kind of stuff I like fooling around with. Al
  5. To say I am elated would be putting it mildly, it was good to see most of the people in this country have come to their senses. Al
  6. Went out for the last couple of hours of daylight, nice temps but no Deer to be seen, did see some Squirrels. One of those deals where it was just nice to be in the woods. Al
  7. Might as well go down another "Rabbit Hole", outfitted my LC Smith double with adjustable sights. Now when I get a chance to try some slugs hopefully one of the barrels will put them on target. If I can get it to group slugs I will have a combination gun. Should help centering shot patterns to the point of aim also. Al
  8. Heading out with the wife right now! Al
  9. I will be standing in line the first thing in the morning, no way will I miss this vote!! Al
  10. Congratulations, that is a one of a kind set of horns!! Al
  11. You know Doc, I think you may be on to something, I have several doubles, I think if I put those clamp on the rib adjustable turkey sights and I can get one of the barrels hitting to the point of aim with decent accuracy I will be in business. Al
  12. My favorite time of year, all the hunting seasons are open, so most everything is fair game. I am going to start dabbling with varmint calls and see if I can get anything to turn up. I still have a DMP so I may go for another Deer if the right one comes along. I am still looking to kill my first black squirrel, saw one the other day but did not have a shot. The one thing I have completely lost interest in is the Turkeys, I have plenty on them around and have had many opportunities, but they just do not appeal to my anymore. I am looking forward to some bird hunting (Grouse)but I will wait for these overly long Deer seasons to end. The hardest part is being equipped with a firearm that can handle everything and anything that comes into play. Probably one of those combination guns in the right chamberings would fit the bill. The Marlin 62 256 Winchester may work for most game if I can take Squirrels without ruining them, the big game bullets I have loaded for it may just punch hole in small game like a Squirrel, I know I can kill a Deer with it if I get the right shot. Al
  13. The Deer pantry will be opening up shop in a few weeks and I see they have done some major improvements to the property, the viewing this year should be quite good. I look forward to this every year.
  14. To this day my best times hunting have been for Squirrels, the weather we have had has made the Squirrel hunting great and comfortable, and like you said, when cooked right the eating is as good as it gets. Al
  15. Another Squirrel processing video, this is the old way that I use to do my Squirrels. it works perfectly fine. Al
  16. I totally agree with this philosophy, the more exposure to the game the better. I feel one of the best techniques for starting a hunting pup in to have a place where they can safely run loose. When I bought this property one of the things I made sure of is I would have a place that pups can run loose, they learn nothing cooped up in a kennel. My pups always have the opportunity to learn how to get around in the woods and are exposed to all it's sights, smells and sounds. That way when the real training starts they will be way ahead of the game. Ruff has already been exposed to Squirrels, a Coon and a Deer along with a broke wing crow which he tracked for a couple of hundred yards and recovered, I was impressed. Al
  17. So I now have a young Airedale pup named "Ruff" that I have been working with for blood tracking. Hopefully Ruff will be taking over for old Harleigh in a year or so. Been going through a bunch of little training drills for handling and obedience, also getting him used to having a long lead on him. So far he has been doing great at just about everything, he loves to retrieve, he is a good tracker and seems to have a very good nose. Fired off a few blanks yesterday during training and believe there will be a zero gun shyness problem as the noise did not faze him. He got his rabies shot last week so I am now comfortable introducing him to game animals. I think he is going to be a good one. Al
  18. Like I said I do not let such trivial things get under my skin. Carry on! Al
  19. You know Grampy, you might be right. I didn't realize he was referring to FSW in his post. LOL Absolutely not, I was referring to you Steve and Mowin among others who are "AWAYS" involved in these threads. When it comes to Four Seasons there are plenty of things I do not agree with, I know he would think just about every Deer I ever shot was laughable, but I don't care. I not going to argue like a two year old over trivial stuff like that. I can read and understand English pretty well and do not need some clubhouse lawyers dissecting everything Four Seasons posts and criticizing them every time he posts something. Now maybe I am missing something, did he go over to your wonderful board and start name calling and it lead to spilling garbage posts over here? Because I have to say I saw absolutely nothing in this thread that deserved these attacks. Al
  20. Some of these people definitely have a problem, the only time they are here is to create a shit show, as soon as I saw this thread I knew it would not be long before they showed up here slinging shit and like clock work they came! Nothing out of them for years that is positive. They need to get out and do some hunting and should stay where they belong! I have never seen people with such thin skin, they act like little kids and are embarrassing themselves. Al
  21. Out on maneuvers this morning for a little while with the Kingston Garand 22, I love this rifle and I can really shoot it well. Used for steel challenge matches mostly as she is a bit heavy to be lugging around for hunting. Al Al
  22. I think that there are some from the Ted Mack board that definitely have Four Seasons derangement syndrome. Al
  23. Happy Halloween, the little ones will be out in force trick or treating with this beautiful weather.
  24. You got that right Doc, but they have been few and far between. Al
