  1. Airedale "Watson" hanging on to a big guy, Hogs are one of the few animals that can still be hunted with dogs out in California. Watson at twelve years of age still getting it done. Al
  2. The revolver pictured looks like a single action revolver similar to a Ruger Blackhawk. Al
  3. Shortage of Toms in my area, been seeing some hens scratching around in the fields but as with last year no Toms to speak of. That being said a few miles down the road I see bunches of Toms. Al
  4. No flies on the 357, with good bullet placement it will do the job, good story. Al
  5. I found this pretty interesting and somewhat surprising the penetration power of the 22 LR on dry wall. Some may think of the 22 as being puny. Al
  6. At one time exhibition shooters were quite prominent, Tom Frye brings back some memories, he is in the video below and was Remington's hired gun, he made the Remington Nylon 66 famous. Saw some old footage of Smith and Wesson's Ed McGivern doing some fancy trick revolver shooting, always liked watching Tom Knapp Benelli's man doing trick shots. Jerry Miculek and Bob Munden with handguns and Byron Ferguson and Howard hill with long bows. I liked the competition show I think was called Top Shot that was on the history channel a few years back, some of those folks could really shoot. Al
  7. Below is my little guy, the 22 cal Benjamin P-Rod pre charge, started out as a pistol and with a few mods turned it into a sweet little light weight tack driving rifle. Bug Buster air gun scope and an AR style rear stock. A chipmunk-rat hunter's delight. Also a quick review on the compressor. Al
  8. So far I like it a lot, I just got it so I really can not say with any authority to it's quality over time. I did a lot of studying and watching a bunch of videos before I finally decided to go with this one. It was purchased on Amazon and they have a sale on it now. The videos were informative and the ratings were about as high as I have found and the price was fair so I bit. Time will tell as they say. Al
  9. Air guns have been on the upsurge in recent times due to many reasons I think. Many outdoor magazines now have monthly columns dedicated to hunting and shooting these guns. The technologies that have gone into these guns has allowed for a huge increase in performance, there are now big bores that are capable for large game hunting. Along with relatively low cost ammo, no noise to speak of and laws favorable for ownership one can see why they have been very popular. I have been using air guns in some form from the time I was a young boy right up to today's modern heavy hitters so I thought a thread on these guns would be interesting. In recent years I have been upgrading my air guns to some of the latest and I have not been disappointed in their performance, in fact I am somewhat amazed and especially so with the pre charged guns. As of now I have three fairly recent rifles that I have been messing around with, a couple of Benjamin pre charged rifles and a nitro piston Gamo Swarm, I used the Gamo the most because of it's simple break action, while not as gilt edge in accuracy as the pre charged Benjamins it has served me well for eliminating chipmunks and the occasional Squirrel. The biggest drawback for the precharge Benjamins is the dreaded handpump, pumping up the 25 cal marauder and doing a lot of shooting will wear you out. The little 22 PRod 22 cal marauder is not too bad. Anyhow I finally got around to buying a high pressure compressor, this is going to be a game changer, these guns can be loaded up with air in a couple of minutes, it is small and portable. can be used with a battery or household current. I will be putting them through their paces and will have more to report on down the road. Al
  10. Why am I not surprised, Crossbow fishing, look like contraptions to me. Al
  11. Man they are vicious little suckers, they are eating that Python alive. Did not realize they lived in such large groups. Al
  12. Has her heat cycle been positively eliminated as a possible cause, while female dogs generally come in heat about every six months there is nothing set in stone. I have had some pretty odd heat cycles in some of my females and the times and amount of bleeding cam vary greatly from a little bit to a lot. Al
  13. Had a little change in plans, the last two heavy snows brought down a bunch of limbs and some tree tops. One on the back yard shooting range landed right on top of my 100 yd target pretty much destroying it. So I am going to put the original 4x8 frame I put together above at 100 yds permanently. Picked up another set of target brackets and made a junior 4x4 size that is more portable and can be easily moved around to different ranges for all kinds of different weapons. I will be putting the suckers on this one. Al
  14. What are you doing here Virg, you have not made a post about hunting in months, another trolling closet Democrat! How about taking your own advice from your quote below and leave us clowns alone. Al "i'll go back to ignoring you clowns- i forgot how sensitive and easily triggered you can be."
  15. This air rifle was really something considering the era it came from, 1000 feet per second is nothing to sneer at even by today's air gun ballistics. The 1500 pump strokes it took to get it charged had to be a killer. I have two Benjamin Marauders that I charge using a hand pump and a good workout is guaranteed pumping them up to full capacity. If for only hunting a hand pump is livable but if doing a lot of target shooting it is a chore for sure. I am looking into getting one of the specialized high pressure airgun pumps, they making charging quick and easy and shooting a lot more enjoyable. Al
  16. As far as getting off easy, I agree the punishment should have been more severe, but that is the way sentencing goes these days. Law and order is on the decline across the board on just about everything crime wise. Al
  17. When I was bowfishing the equipment was pretty simple, I had a Bear setup and the reel screwed to the front of my recurve and the line was wound by hand. Below is a photo of an old Bear reel. These days I see much more thought into the bowfishing equipment, Lever compound bows seem to be favored and many still use some sort of recurve and fingers. I purchased an older Oneida Eagle bow sometime back that had been outfitted for bowfishing, I wanted it just to target shoot with, it came with a fancy reel and arrow rest setup. I refurbed the old Oneida and gave it a new paint job, it has become one of my favorite bows to target shoot with. If I find a good spot for Carp I might just give it a go again. Like Doc said it is a blast.
  18. Some people have conviction and stand up for what they believe in, the politicians who change their positions to kill the unborn just to get votes are gutless slime and make me puke, the current President is the poster boy for flip flops on policy. Al
  19. What actually got me into archery was bow fishing for Carp. My Dad had a hunting buddy that would come out to our place and he would go after Carp in the many oxbows that were along side a nearby river. We used to go along watch him arrow those Carp and that is what got me hooked. There is not much more fun than hunting Carp with a bow if you have shallow waters that hold good populations. 20. So screw those Pirates selling $250 410 Lee loaders, I went with a Mec 410 die conversion kit that will go on my Mec Jr for $125. Al
  21. Hey land1, good to see you got that choke out. Al
