  1. I have never used a dog to track a wounded Deer but I have recovered Coyotes and Foxes several times with my dogs. So to be legal for Deer I decided awhile back to take the test for a leashed tracking dog license, took the test this morning and passed it. Also wanted to take the test just to see if I could pass it having trained hunting dogs my whole life. The license is good for 5 years and going to cost $75 and will be basically for personal use if I ever wound one and have to use a dog to recover it legally. Al
  2. I can see having no adjustable sights on a snub nose concealer belly gun or the old Police revolvers sighted for their one load standard issue 158 gr lead round nose ammo. When a revolver is chambered for 38 spl - 357 Mag, the variety in bullet weights, styles, velocity and power is huge and to have them all hit to the point of aim is pretty hard to do without adjustable sights. One of the best pros of the 357 - 38 spl chambering is the ability to shoot all those different loads, no adjustable sights negates and waters down those advantages in my opinion. Al
  3. Just wanted to put in a good word for the Gamo Swarm, I have a plain stock model I purchased a few years ago when they first came out. It is a good solid nitro piston air rifle that has good power and accuracy for a fair price. I purchased it to knock off a bunch of chipmunks I had getting into things around the house and that it did very well. These Swarms also have a magazine that can be loaded with multiple pellets, no fumbling around loading one in the barrel by hand for follow up shots, just cock it and she is ready to go. Al
  4. Got an email today from Henry Arms introducing their new revolvers, personally I am not impressed, they remind me of S&W 10s and Colt Police Positives, bare bones with no under barrel ejector shrouds and no adjustable sights. I think they are a bit off the mark with these two especially with the prices they are asking. Al
  5. Nice fish, no Stripers where I am from but we had good runs in the river I grew up next to of their little cousins the White Bass, they sure were a lot of fun when you got into them. Al
  6. You will not see this kind of stuff on NBC these days.
  7. Been so busy I have not had time to do crap, hung my archery target block to the frame above it worked out great and holds it nicely, also put a few suckers in which will be shot with my airguns. The big 8 footer will be put up soon, got the chainsaws up and running and have to clear out the 100 yd area from fallen tree tops. I am also going to give these target frames a paint job. I can see this frame is going to be very versatile and accommodate all kinds of targets and shooting. The good weather is finally here so some fun will be had. Al
  8. Nice back backs are made for your canine companion allowing one to take a bit more gear along on their hike-camping excursions and having their best friend along to boot.
  9. As long as you have fertile eggs you can hatch any time of the year. Dead of winter months when real cold you have to provide heat, the warmer months of Spring and Summer make keeping the chicks warm until they get feathered much easier. Also there are seasonal breeders so fertile eggs can only be obtained during those times, Geese, Turkeys and other gamebirds fall into that category, usually Spring and early Summer. Chicken eggs can be fertile most of the year. I have been hatching eggs since I was a kid and as an old man now I still get a big kick out of it, one of the more fun things I have done during my lifetime. Al
  10. Egg auctions are all over, I got beat out on one selling Royal Palm Turkey eggs, but won on 7 others for a total of a little over 60 eggs, they should be delivered over the next few days. If I get 50 to 60 percent hatched out of this batch I would consider that good for hatching eggs that go through the US postal delivery system. Got some pretty neat rare stuff coming, the 30 plus inch tall Indio Gigante chickens and Pilgrim Geese eggs are some new birds I am looking forward to get hatched. Al
  11. So I get my hatching eggs on ebay and I am looking to try different fowl and one that I am especially interested in is the very rare Belgium Leige Fighter. I am a big admirer of gamefowl and these newly imported Leige Fighters have caught my interest. So I won an auction of a dozen eggs from a good breeder and I am happy as Hell, hopefully I can get half of them to hatch some healthy chicks. Below is a description of the Leige Fighter Gamefowl. If you’re looking for a stunning and fearless flock protector, look no further than the Liege Fighter. The Chuck Norris of chickens. It’s no surprise why the Liege Fighter is dubbed the “hawk killer” - this giant game bird is nearly 30 inches tall and can weight up to 12lbs with feet the size of a turkeys and huge spurs. They stand tall, upright, and with an imposing gait. Their fierce gaze, detailed eyes, and prominent brow give a sense of their personality. From day one, they act different than any other chicken we have raised. Confident. Calm. Like caring for baby raptors. And if you thought it couldn’t get any better, this chicken is surprisingly easy to handle, friendly towards humans, and gentle with kids.
  12. Happy Easter all, I am looking forward to eating my annual Reese's Peanut Butter Egg!! Al
  13. Well my poultry flock has become quite depleted and it is time to get some new stock. It has been a few years since hatching my last batches of chicks so I am looking forward to a good spring hatch on a wide variety of fowl. Turkeys, Geese, and some exotic chickens and maybe some gamebirds are on the agenda this year. Hatching eggs are always a risk but I have plenty of experience doing it for a lot of years with pretty decent hatch rates. So things will be getting lively here at green acres over the next few weeks., it will be fun. Al
  14. Most of my supplies are purchased online, as for now this stuff can still be shipped to my door. For me it has been the best way to go because there are few and far between shops that carry good inventory for reloading. Midway USA, Powder Valley, Midsouth, Ballistic Products are some of the vendors I use, I will usually buy when they have special deals where savings are substantial. Al
  15. Probably right Rob, we will never see prices on reloading supplies a whole lot lower. The one thing that I find to be in short supply from my main vendors is large rifle primers, they can be found on the gun auction site for ridiculous prices. Small rifle primers seem to be readily available. Powder supplies have become better with the outfits I do business with, prices while not low are quite a bit better than what Eddie paid. I have been making a concerted effort to buy versatile powders that can be used for good performing loads in multiple cartridges. I also buy in multiples as it cuts down on the hazmat fee. Alliant powders have been impossible to find. Al
  16. Airedale "Watson" hanging on to a big guy, Hogs are one of the few animals that can still be hunted with dogs out in California. Watson at twelve years of age still getting it done. Al
  17. The revolver pictured looks like a single action revolver similar to a Ruger Blackhawk. Al
  18. Shortage of Toms in my area, been seeing some hens scratching around in the fields but as with last year no Toms to speak of. That being said a few miles down the road I see bunches of Toms. Al
  19. No flies on the 357, with good bullet placement it will do the job, good story. Al
  20. I found this pretty interesting and somewhat surprising the penetration power of the 22 LR on dry wall. Some may think of the 22 as being puny. Al
  21. At one time exhibition shooters were quite prominent, Tom Frye brings back some memories, he is in the video below and was Remington's hired gun, he made the Remington Nylon 66 famous. Saw some old footage of Smith and Wesson's Ed McGivern doing some fancy trick revolver shooting, always liked watching Tom Knapp Benelli's man doing trick shots. Jerry Miculek and Bob Munden with handguns and Byron Ferguson and Howard hill with long bows. I liked the competition show I think was called Top Shot that was on the history channel a few years back, some of those folks could really shoot. Al
  22. Below is my little guy, the 22 cal Benjamin P-Rod pre charge, started out as a pistol and with a few mods turned it into a sweet little light weight tack driving rifle. Bug Buster air gun scope and an AR style rear stock. A chipmunk-rat hunter's delight. Also a quick review on the compressor. Al
