  1. This is the pic of the horn I found in September after putting up a tree stand. Notice the green on the tips as it was burried upside down in wet ground. Found this one while walking along a logging road, it was hanging on a branch 3 ft. off the ground. Went out for an hour after work today no sheds, moved my trail camera to check out another area.
  2. Wooly, I haven't been able to figure out how to post pics. Any help?
  3. It looks like he's been tearing up some timber from the fiber on his forehead. I just had someone ask me recently if bucks are still rubbing trees as he found a lot of fresh bark on the snow at a rub line. That pic answers that.
  4. I do have access to a tractor, i'll just wait until it dries out some and give it a go then. Thanks,
  5. Took a walk on Sunday with my wife and some snow shoes, took down my last tree stand, didn't see any sheds but I pulled the card from my trail camera and I got pics of a small (1.5yr) 8 pointer. Still carying both horns on 2-1-13. I will add pics once I figure out how to insert them...
  6. Wow a lot of good advice. Here's the deal, I do not own the proprty I just have permission to hunt it, I can and do maintain several walking trails throughout the property and I would like to clear out some overgrown redbrush and put in some clover mix. It is somewhat flat and stays very wet in the spring so heavy tractors have to wait until june/july to really get in there. I thought a 4 wheeler could get in earlier. The areas I want to work on are less than 1 acre each. I'm curious and wondered where can I rent a tow behind? I'm not in the market to buy a tractor and I have no place on the property to store it, I agree that a small tractor w/pto is the best, but I have to be realistic.
  7. Anyone have any experience with a gas powered tow behind brush hog? I could use 1 for small food plots and clearing lanes and don't have easy access to a tractor and pto brush hog. If I could rent 1 for a weekend would be ideal. I don't know how good they work, are they limited to the size of brush-small saplings they are able to get through. any info would help. I hate to buy something that really cannot perform. The last few years I rented a walk behind 30" brushhog but it really beats you up!! A four wheeler with a tow behind seems like the next best option. Hoping to try a little frost seeding this spring.
  8. I've been reading all these posts and I am totaly amazed. I have shed hunted for years and the only time I find any is when I'm not really trying. I almost have to step on them to see one. I honestly found a half an 8 ptr. in September after scouting and putting up a tree stand. I literally stepped on it! I will try to post some pics. Wooly, you must be retired, how can you find the time that you obviously put in to it.? Between work and all the other thingsI "need" to get done it's hard to find much time for a walk in the woods. And with the snow lately I think it's best to wait until a melt. I do love to get out the snowshoes but I don't expect to find sheds in deep snow. I'm surprised you find so many early in Dec,Jan., I'm still get bucks on my trail camera. God luck and keep hiking!!
  9. i have a buddy who takes the front shoulders whole and cooks them in a large electric roaster. uses some wine, onions, peppers garlic, etc. and cooks them at 200 for 12+ hours. the meat just falls off the bones. great pulled venison. Just put on a good hard roll and add your favorite bbq sauce. sure beats all the time it takes to bone out the shoulder.
  10. watch ebay you can get a nixon for under 150 ship inc. Ants (cicero) I will be at the rink 2nd week in April for Grey Wolves Tourney always a good time.!
  11. I first noticed it when I was practicing, trying to get a "surprise" release. I was relaxing a little too much trying to get comfortable and pow! The bow wanted to go. I never noticed it while hunting only when I overthink it while practicing. I now know to hold it tight at the stops. It does scare you a little knowing what it is capable of doing. But that's the price you pay for fast cams. I have my bow set at 68 lbs, 29" draw, 400 gr. arrows, cronograffed 291 fps.
  12. I have an Elite GT500 29"draw, fast bow shoots great. It is cam specific and I wish I had bought it in 30". just put on a longer string loop. I do notice if you creep forward any it wants to rip your arm off!! Have to hold it full draw at the stops.
  13. I changed the card in my camera today, more videos of same does and same buck. I haven't seen the big 8 pointer I am looking for. He may not have made it through. I noticed coyote tracks in the fresh snow right in front of my camera, no pictures? I guess my camera doesn't see everything!
  14. I checked out the links and both those varieties ripen in september. I was hoping to find one that ripens later. I know they exist, I just can't find what they are called. I'll keep searching. Thanks.
  15. looking for a late ripening pear tree for lining food plots, any suggestion as to which variety to choose? I've heard of pears that hold fruit into November.
  16. have you used persimmon trees before, as i thought they wouldn't grow in NY climates. I know the deer love them but that was in S. Indianna.
  17. now its 24 hrs. later and I bet you are eating a huge breakfast , Might as well put the newly cleaned out system to the test! But seriously I'm glad everything is looking ok.
  18. Went out this past weekend to remove a couple of deer stands, saw 5 longbeards in the open hardwoods, can't wait till May!
  19. Just completed a batch of ground turkey jerky. I used a package of bourbon bbq seasoning from gander mtn.for 1/2 and a recipe i found on line for the other 1/2. The bourbon is very mild but tastes good. The online recipe is just a little spicier but both are keepers. With venison jerky I tend to make it very hot (lots of crushed red pepper) this is a nice change. won't need a many beers to put out hte fire!
  20. Thanks for the help, not sure i want to use prepackaged seasoning as most I've used before seems very salty.
  21. Just came back from the Sabres open scrimmage. Best seats in the house!! Free!! Watching the last Sabres game in the old Aud on MSG. can't wait till the opener.
  22. that sounds like one of the season packets they sell at Gander Mtn.
  23. Does anyone have a good recipe for making wild turkey jerky? I've been making deer jerky with ground venison for years and love the recipe I use, but I don't think it will go good with turkey. Looking to use up some last year turkey breasts.
  24. You can probably just show up around 6 pm. I haven't been able to shoot it in 2 years so you might want to call first. More fun if you show up with friends. I'll try to send you a pm with a contact.( not sure if its ok to post names and # onthis site)
  25. Allied SportsmanClub usually has a Thursday night indoor league. Great set up, uses moving targets, blinds, screen shots, etc. Really chalanges the shooter. Runs 10 weeks about $8/wk. Keeps you shooting all winter long.
