  1. I have thought about changing broad heads too, I shoot grim reapers 100 gr. I have killed 3 deer with them but the blood trail was not the best, I have a friend that loves his montec g5. I just hate to toss out 1/2 dozen heads and spend 30+ on 3 new ones. If it aint broke why fix it. ?
  2. I started bow hunting with face paint, but I have since gone to a scent loc face mask, it is easy to use and I don't have to paint up for a short after work hunt. early season I use my turkey face mask helps with the bugs. just put it in my jacket pocket so I always have it with me. be sure to practice with it on so you know you can shoot without any problems.
  3. I used to get it every time I stepped into the woods, now I carry a bottle of Purel in my truck. Just was down after I return to the truck with the Purel, it contains 99% alcohol which neutralizes the oils form poison ivy. It really works I haven't had poison ivy in years and I am very allergic to it. Make sure you clean up good with it, everywhere you may have contacted the plants. Be especially careful to get under your fingernails as it spreads by contact and just scratching yourself will cause it to spread. Unfortunately once you realize you have poison ivy only the meds will help with the rashes and discomfort. But seriously use the Purel next time you go out in the woods.
  4. I think the mayor could use your pics in his re-election campaign
  5. thanks, It is the same every year, the bucks come out of the woodwork until the pears are gone and I usually only see a couple of them during the season. But 1 at 20 yds. is all I ask for.lol
  6. Yeh, the tree is loaded but the pears are dropping like flies!!!
  7. I pulled my SD card today, here are some of the pics
  8. With all that rain last night, I forgot to close the windows out in my shop, checked it this morning and I got lucky, not a drop, I was expecting the floor and everything close to an open window to be soaked. It must have rained almost straight down.
  9. I stopped in to change my sd card on my camera yesterday only to find I never put a card in it! another SENIOR MOMENT! 2 weeks wasted, I was soo looking forward to the new pics. O well it's early. there should be lots of pics in the next few weeks as the pears are starting to drop and I know the bucks in the area will be there every night till they are gone.
  10. I looked into the lifetime license several years ago, at that time I was only 8 years from the senior $5.00 license, so I figured it wasn't worth the investment. I would basically save around $100. They almost immediately raised the senior license to 70. I screwed up again. I just don't trust the powers to be with the license fees, they seem to keep adding separate tags that are not included in the lifetime lic. If I was younger I would really consider it.
  11. I'm trying to help a friend who inherited a couple of older guns and need some info as to what they are worth and where is a good place to sell them, locally, close to Buffalo. I will post pics later today. One is a Wincherster model 1894 lever action 30Cal. the other is a Remington model 11 20 ga. semi auto. Both look older and used but in very nice shape for their age.
  12. I am concerned about my apple tree, it has been dropping apples for weeks, and now leaves are turning yellow and brown and falling like it was fall! I don't know if it is bugs or some kind of blight? If it stops raining for a day I plan to spray the tree with Neem, I hope it is not too late.
  13. you will find them and all of a sudden you will remember putting them there. It sucks getting old. ( I seem to be saying that more and more.
  14. didn't you put up your cameras in the bedroom just for laughs?
  15. How would you suggest I thin my apple trees, I've read up on it on the internet but it just confuses me and I hate to screw it up. I plan on spraying the trees as soon as I can get a dry calm day.
  16. still dropping 2-3 apples a day, all seem to be deformed, most apples on the tree look deformed, does that indicate bugs or worms? should I be looking into spraying the tree? any suggestions as to what spray I should use?
  17. seat of the pants is ok only 4 slip buckles. I put it on each day I hunt w/o any trouble. I wear it under my top layer and just pull the tether out to attach to the tree.
  18. Bass fishin after work.. I'm in.. have a cooler of bud lites waiting for a ride.
  19. I used to use screw in spikes but over the last few years I have changed to all climbing sticks. They are much faster and easier to install. I set up about 10 stands each year. I leave them up all season and just hunt them based on the wind direction. I look for clearance sales usually Dicks or sportsmen guide at the end of the season usually can get the stands for 40 and the sticks for 30. I like to start the sticks up off the ground by using a heavy duty screw in first and setting the stick right on the spike. Always wear a safety harness/ linemen's belt when setting up a stand, and cable locks keep the honest people honest.
  20. I just noticed that my Mccowan apple tree is dropping little green apples, I picked up 7-8 apples yesterday when I cut the lawn. I thought it might be insects although I didn't see any sign of bugs on the leaves.
  21. someone has to say it so here goes... The archery club I belong to does not allow crossbows on their property. I personally don't have any problem with crossbows, I believe it will just be a matter of time before they are accepted by all archers. The compound people probably had the same uphill battle 40+ years ago.
