  1. unbelievable how far this post has gone, Larry you'll be back from the doctors and it will still be running. Good luck with your tests.
  2. Been jonesing over hockey since I put the bow away. Should be an interesting short season. We'll see which horse jumps out of the gate and takes the big lead. Go Sabres !!
  3. there is a lot of good info posted here, but 1 thing over looked. Take your gun to the range and pattern it. you need to know your effective range and your guns pattern (does it hit high, low, right, left?) i had to add rifle sights to my rem.870 cause it shot low and left. Tight chokes and hevi shot can make shotguns shoot more like a rifle at close ranges, makes it easy to miss. Secondly get a turkey seat and a themacell. your patience in the turkey woods is directly related to being able to sit still for a long time !
  4. I just pulled the card from my wildgame camera, its been out for 3 weeks, standard alkaline batteries are doing fine. I had it set for video, I like to see the deer reactions. 1 nice buck, bunch of does. The trigger speed is my only complaint. It is slow to react when the camera is in sleep mode. But that is how it saves battery life.
  5. I've not tried to smoke a roast but i've had good luck with a back strap. I take the back strap clean it up cut it into 6" pcs. then I cut a slot lengthwise in the pc. Marinate for 3/4 hour in an equal mix of Montreal steak seasoning, vinager veg.oil, and water. Then i stuff it with hot Italian sausage. Place it in my smoker until it reaches 160* internal temp. The pork inside keeps the venison moist and the ext. gets a nice bark. I like the heat from the sausage i suppose you could use mild if neccessary
  6. Bob from Quaker boy told me of the same experience. It seems it took a year before the deer knew the turnips were there. Once they found the field they hit it regularly. Keep it going and have patience they will come. I've seen it where they ate the tops off the brassica all fall and even dug through the snow to get at the remaining tops but never touched the bulbs.
  7. I am interseted in frost seeding, I have small areas to put in something but no access to farm equipment or 4 wheeler.
  8. Case Lake is between Franklynville and Lyndon on CR-24
  9. I have a summit viper and load both side bags and front bag w/necessities. I can only imagine how much it weighs, I am interested in a timber tall only for its adjustability when climbing. Anybody have comments on the differences in the 2 stands. Hard to part with 3 bills+ for that 1 feature. I really like the summit but I did notice this year it does get heavy on longer treks.
  10. just read the thread and I have a Big House blind. I had a hub break when taking down the blind in the dark. I blamed myself because I lost my patience wrestling with the blind. I was able to purchase replacement parts easily and fixed the problem only to have another hub break the next time I used the blind. Two more hubs have broken since! Needless to say I'm very dissapointed in the blind, it seems as if it is too large when setting up and taking down causing excess stress on the hubs. It's great once up very roomy, But where I hunt I don't leave it up as I don't want to be donating it to a less scrupulous hunter.
  11. Sorry, this may have already been asked but has any one had experience or comments on the Timber Tall climbing tree stand. I just recently heard about them and I'm very interested in the ability to adjust the platform to the taper of the tree as you climb. I currently own a Summit Viper and love it except for the fact that you either start with the base at a sharp angle or risk having the base tilt down when you reach your desired height. Any comments appreciated.
  12. I'm interested in the rifle, can you IM me with contact info? I'm in Erie Co. probably could drive and avoid ffl. Thanks
  13. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and do what you think will work.
  14. Nice pics, I have a pic from about a week ago with a buck still in velvet. All the others are now hard horned.I can smell autumn in the air, can't wait for the season to start.
  15. Those elevated box blinds look great. I've always been a portable tree stand hunter, but after the opening day of gun 3 years ago I am starting to think an enclosed stand might be a good thing. Heavy rains can put such a damper on sitting on a stand all day! I still like the portability of hang-ons and the suprise element of a first time location.
  16. Have you had time to look for theprevious pics. It would be neet to see the changes over the past years!
