Bear this past weekend

If you want to front the money you can make a few bucks on a bear rug. If the hide is good you can usually selel them new for more than they cost. -
Bear this past weekend
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in Bear Hunting
I have a 1/2 body bear mount on the wall...and a bear rug. I think I would be pushing it...lol The person in the photo with me is my daughter boyfriend. His first year big game hunting. He thought it was very cool seeing a bear up close and personal.I don't like posting pics of a minor not my kid...lol. I think he was a bit nervous when I was explaining we could see a bear up here. made the early morning walk in a bit exciting for him. -
Bear this past weekend

went all the way through. hit rib entering and out top of off side hind quarter. Lung and Liver were mush. tennis ball sized exit hole. Didn't find any bullet parts in the bear while cutting it up so I would say it did well. it was an 80 yard shot. (Sierra Gamekings 165gr) -
Well I was up north for the Deer regular season opener. We knew there had been a ton of bear sign from the previous weekend of Muzzle loading. It was a very quite Saturday opener. not much shooting around the area. we set up a drive for the one big swamp one the property that is adjacent to a corn field on the next property. My cousin and I were drivers. Well I saw this fella running around the outside of the drive about 20% through the drive. I had no idea they could run that fast...not quite as fast as the handloads for my -06 (first ime I was able to try them on game). well if they are right about the % to add to get live weight, the live weight would have been around 240-250 young male. Not a monster and not much meat off a bear either but It has been 100% corn fed based on the large crop circles in the middle of the corn field. I am giving the hide to a taxidermist I use, Hope to get a discount on the next deer mount. (no way the wife would go for another bear mount and I have a Daughter that is headed to college...LOL)

Holy cow we are solid on the same side of a topic....LOL

I would take my chances in court any day with that BS ticket. Again how can they make this assertion of presumed hunting in this case and not ticket every CCW pistol permit holder?
-
Ever had a pissy neighbor that called and complained to the police any time they saw you enter the woods? I lived through it one season until about every cop in the area cycled through the complaints to see she was full of $hit. she called about shooting after hours, shoooting before hours, chasing deer with a 4 wheeler and shooting them (we went in to bring out 2 we took), shooting with a rifle, she even said we were tresspassing on the property we had permission to hunt. all BS claims and nothing ever happened becasue we were within the regs and laws. But you feel if someone shoots a deer and brings it out steaming after legal hunting ours that is ground for a ticket when coupled with a complaint? Wow...wow....non wonder this state is so efff'ed up

Where do you guys get this crap? I am not condoning road hunting but having a gun, unloaded in the car and driving slowly is NOT breaking any law. Put a spot light in their hand after hours and they are but in the day light it is legal. If you say it is not,......show me the law.
-
you can have 4,000 rounds filling the console between the drivers seat and the passengers seat and you are legal.
-
If you want to go by the letter of the law it says a firearm must be unloaded in the magazine. So if it is the same Encon office that defines hunting after hours by haing a loaded gun walking out and you end up in front of a JP like Bubba, you probably are screwed.
-
Or they just don't want to walk out of the woods without a loaded gun. If I walk out to check trail cameras a day before the season and I have my pistol with me I must be hunting out of season too.
-
I guess if you have a pistol permit and carry while setting those cameras you are hunting out of season too.

I am not really good but I don't think he will make 130

Would love to see a formal DEC response to this ruling. Want to be they don't..lol -
I have seen them in Penn yan and two different areas in the southern ADK foothills. I saw them this weekend in both those places.

Feeding deer legal again

Interesting read. -
Because he shot a deer after hours...and he should have gotten a ticket. That is a whole different animal than having a loaded gun.
-
They are a different color phase of the grey squirrels. Have at them. Usually there are pockects of the population. They are on a couple of areas I hunt as well. Penn Yan has a lot of them down that way.
-
Is it a law requiring I carry a call to predator hunt? News to me. The burden of proof isn't on me to prove I am doing it correctly. If I am in the woods during gun I have a loaded gun. period.
-
I coyote hunt on the way in and out.

.Only problem is that you need over a 36" zip tie to mount on a 12" tree. if the tree grows a 1/8" growth ring in one year that is a stretch of 3/4" ....every year.(round numbers...lol) -

Willy, I have tyvek signs up with staples for 5 years mounting them this way. every spring we lose a few but mostly I just rewalk the line every year and tune them up. As the tree grows the sign isn't stretched
