  1. I can see the reduction for bow...I'd buy the 300'. NO WAY it should be reduced for gun though. I have hunted very populated areas especially in the 8C area where it is bow only. The deer population really needs to be trimmed here and they even offer bonus tags once you fill your normal ones. there are many areas that this reduction would help bring the population down. That said....if that is their motivation they could easily alter the distance by county or WMU to achieve the goal and not change anything else in the state.
  2. A woman from Los Angeles who was a tree hugger, a liberal Democrat, and an anti-hunter, purchased a piece of timberland near Colville, WA . There was a large tree on one of the highest points in the tract. She wanted a good view of the natural splendor of her land, so she started to climb the big tree. As she neared the top she encountered a spotted owl that attacked her. In her haste to escape, the woman slid down the tree to the ground and got many splinters in her crotch. In considerable pain, she hurried to a local ER to see a doctor. She told him she was an environmentalist, a democrat, and an anti-hunter and how she came to get all the splinters. The doctor listened to her story with great patience and then told her to go wait in the examining room and he would see if he could help her. She sat and waited three hours before the doctor reappeared. The angry woman demanded, "!!!What took you so long!!!" He smiled and then told her, "Well, I had to get permits from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management before I could remove old-growth timber from a "recreational area" so close to a "waste management facility". I'm sorry, but due to Obama Care they turned the procedure down."
  3. Are they startig an early archery season on those elephants down by you? Lucky SOB.
  4. I was told by a DEC officer years ago that they were not a legal implement .....just like BB guns....and air guns until recently. They are not included on the illegal list but I doubt they view that list as lal inclusve. Aure would be nice if they did what they do in the Big game and list what you CAN use. One side note....while you may get a pass on a sling shot....a wrist braced one is illegal to even own in New York. As far as the 500'. My cousin got a ticket for just such a thing. The leagal view as conveyed to him was that if the structure was considered in use if it was being used (like a chicken coop or shed) and it was considered in use (even if unoccupied) if the structure was identified by the tax rolls and was a valued structure. This took old caved in barns and such out of the classification. But a seasonal use residence would be considered in use all year because the possibility is there and it is on the tax rolls. ANd I guess that makes sense given all the recreational property in NY.
  5. FYI...stones and sling shots are not legal hunting implements. The way the law reads it does not distinguish between an inhabited structure or not. So in this example the seasonal user has stopped the hunting activity there for the entire year even when he isn't there.....assuming the 500' stays the law.
  6. Well if that ever went through I wouldn't buymy ML tag until I saw how the rest of theseason went
  7. I am really biting my lip right now....so many lines to use on Steves comment
  8. Careful with those single does.....the bucks that will be spikes may not be over the ears this time of year. And if you really want to do the farmer a service.....the mature that may be likely to have double fawns are great ones to target for population control...just food for thought
  9. Antlered are only issued to orchards and nurseries....and only valid once rubbing damage starts
  10. For one who is so "fact" based, using such subjective statements is unsettling and that subjective approach is what these "radical right wing" folks you comment about are against. Sensible in who's mind?.......Sporting weapons....based on who's definition? Yours? I only hunt with bolt actions and single shots? should autos be banned? You say you do have conservative views ot some topics? what might those be?
  11. what I read was he did die. Fact ...The questioning came up that an investigation was underway into the actions of the ATF. THe questions were raised...did Obama know?...valid question. If he didn't know...Why?. Seems like another valid question since it was an action across internatinal boarders and could have a direct effect on relations with Mexico.
  12. I am not supporting any of the postings as valid. I am questioning your assertion. It should not matter what source is quoting a fact. If it is valid...it is....If it is not valid...it isn't. Do you believlethe unemployment numbers form the Govt? The have a vested interest in having them show low and that would qualify as a biased view. Facts are most often provided to support a position which by definition would make the presenter biased. It is not very often that a person takes the time to fabricate an argument...support it with facts and not have a biased agenda. Facts are just that...facts. If yuo take issue with them and feel differently than the presenter ...contradict those facts and prove them invalid.
  13. So if facts are provided from a evidently biased source...and are valid facts, they are discounted as invalid because they could imflame people. It really sounds to me that anything that contradicts your view is discounted. Not disputed or proven wrong but you just have the ability to avoid the opposite view to yours in spite of any facts. That sure sounds like just what you have been complaining about with the guys opposite you views.
  14. Unless I am wrong ....I don't recall you providing any proof to back up any of your arguments, or contradictions to his.
  15. I knw what you mean but I do love veal NY. One of my favorite meals
  16. It is best when dry because the plants draw it in better. It also is most effective if it dries before the next rain. all thing equal I would be more concerned about the next rain event over it being wet. I would beef up the concentratin if spraying wet plants though. some of your spraying water is already on the plant
  17. I wouldstart with any farmer groups that are local organizations....maybe co-ops do an internet search for vegtable farmers...they may not have livestock and may be more likely to grant access or have permits. It is easier for them to prove damage that guys with hay or grain lots. Might want to take a walk through a farmers market and buy...then start talking
  18. Not to try two threads together but I have been thinking. Pat was postig about filling Nuisance tags for a farmer and it started the gears turning. When I was growing up in Central Ny there were TONS of small operating farms around me. Every mouthfull a deer ate was one that wasn't available for the cattle, dairy cows or for sale. Almost all those farms have been sold or shut down. They have been broken into smaller parcels....Now I realize that not all the property back then was owned by farmers but it sure seemed like my area had a ton. DO you guys think the demise of the small farmers in NY has played a role in the mind set shift on hunting access?
  19. Bummer, That place was huge. He was buying any land he could and he actually bought my one uncles farm. Pulled up and said he wanted to buy the place. My uncle said it wasn't for sale. He said 'everything is for sale. How much do you want?" My uncle threw out a number expecting it to sent him back to his car....it did...to get his check book....wrote it ot and said his lawyers would be in touch to do that paperwork. i remember going on the roads around there at first thaw in the spring and there were hundreds of deer in the fields on the south faceing hills. Quite the area.
  20. I t is just like a fee for hunting the property. Stack'em up. They eat just as well in the summer as they do in the fall. ..lol Seriously though, you are providing a service to him for the ability to hunt there. Help him out and you very well will have acces sfor good. On the other side of the coin (and this happened to my cousin) He was asked to do about the same thing....didn't fill them because he didn't want to screw up the season.....the guy found someone that would.....that other guy now hunts the property and my cousin doesn't Food for thought....it is a business to him...if the company you hired to pick up your trash wasn't doing it ...you would find one that would
  21. I really think this access is a domino effect. a guy get denied permission for what ever reason and any land he control gets shut down except for his group...and so on and so on. Truth be told I have done it.Lost some great hunting because the next generation that took the farms over either hunted themselves and didn't want anyone there (there choice and would never begrudge them the option) or were taken over by folks that did not want hunting. now I have access and control on 3 peices of property and they are posted and only family and friends are allowed. I hate to feel like I have to be protective of the property, not because of the deer that might get taken but just the possible loss of the experience and access to me. Access is so hard to come by I can't take the chance someone will screw it up for me....get the owner pissed.....and it is gone. I remember as a kid hiking and hunting for as far as you could walk in a day and no one cared. Posted signs were the exception rather than the rule. and even property that was posted you could usually get easy access by a polite knock on the door. ...except for one place.....Any one ever hear of the George Cogar and the huge tracts of land around Schuyler NY.....no one gets on there or ever did....lol....and it is LOADED wit deer.
