  1. This is 10 year old info based on target shooting I saw at that time. I am sure the new ones may have made some improvements. I watched a guy with a scoped crossbow hit a paper plate sized target consistently at 60 yards. At 75 he was outside a comfortable kill area. It was scoped and with field tips
  2. Burt, I think just like a compound...a misplaced inadvertant shot could easily travel 100 yards or beyond. I have seen guys at an indoor range hit that trigger on their compounds when they are shooting too much weight for them and start with the bow very high...click....into the ceiling . I am betting 100 yards plus for either one. If you are comfortable during bow I wouldn't think anything would change with the crossbow. Some on here will disagre with me but I think the percentage of yahoos per each implement are probably pretty close
  3. They are human Burt...and with that comes fallibility. For those that believe and practice the scriptures and teachings have no fallibility.
  4. My personal opinion is ....calling any fenced operatio hunting is equal to calling the carnival car ride with the rails driving. It is controled and limited. You take the risks we all have in a natural setting out of it. If I am not sure to make a quick and clean kill on a buck and that deer makes it off the property I can hunt there is a really good chance I could lose it. I wouldn't have to worry about that if I was in a fence. Is there any doubt that the land I hunt holds deer?...in certain times of the year ...you bet....and if that is the case I have to go find them and make the hunt happen. If I am with an outfit and in even a large 10,000 acre fenced ranch. I KNOW they are there and the guides will put me on them. Sure the execution would be up to the shooter but IMO that is not hunting. There is a reason those deer taken are not recognized by the clubs
  5. I am betting the Gov. doesn't make it through his term without there being cost for her somewhere. Whether it is security or just food
  6. Did you just get your tax bill? Love to see him stick to his guns and not raise any more property taxes. I don't think he making a mockery out of his religion, who died and left you Pope?? Let it play out, give the guy a chance. well one that died for those beliefs was Christ and VJP is spot on.....It is against the religion he claims to be a member of. It does speak to his character in my book.
  7. OK...VJP. Thanks. I gues with out even knowing it I hae been using the double twist in ones....lol. They might be more money but they sure seem rock solid. I started using them on my shotgun and put them on everything I mounted since.
  8. LOL...I just knew someone was going to bring that up
  9. I anyone thinks that is fair chase...let me set the hunt up for you...I am thinking a 10 acre high fence, night time lion hunt with the knife of your choice. . Now that is fair
  10. The only people i know that ever did a fenced hunt was 2 buddies. They went up near Oswego for russian boar. They took their bows and a video camera. I busted their chops pretty good about wanting to go but the video came out pretty cool and the one guy got charged after the shot. you don't get to see the second follow up because the other guy was to busy running to film...lol. I busted on him about running from a farm animal but after seeing the video and the boars I think I would have run too. this was years ago and I think they spending less than $2 a pound based on final processed weight. It was some of the best pork I have ever had...Not for me but the meat was great
  11. I will have to look those up. I don't think I have seen those. The ones I use dro in and quarter turn in. I have a 1" hardwood dowel I use for twisting and alignment
  12. lefdt out one important part of that........IN A POOL!!
  13. If we don't believe this, how can we believe anyone knows 80% (or whatever) of the 1.5's are killed? Selective data acceptance? A+++ and that is the problem with data.....It all depends on the point you are trying to prove and who is pencil screwing them.
  14. I think I would donate it to a disabled Vet
  15. These guys will spin what you said trust me. They are going to say "You just want to make it easier for you", "Big bucks are not supposed to be easy to get", "Yada Yada" In my case, big bucks ARE there to get now, where before they were NOT. I'm in a AR zone, I did NOT bag a buck this year let alone a big buck. I saw a few nice sized bucks though, and that's enough to show me that AR is working. Now there is next year, and I can't wait. I realy don't think they should be that easy to get. The point I was trying to make was this. If we walked out every year and took a 140, how long would it be before that standard didn't "do it" for us anymore. I was questioning what is the ceiling? how far are will willing to push this and at what cost? Do we set a standard of 150 and that is the AR? Do we manipulate our herd genetically so we get bigger bucks? DO we risk losing hunters if we do anything? I don't know the answers, but am scared no one else really does either. I gues my one big question I pose to you guys is how far is far enough?
  16. that was really my concern. I figured a metal bow that is not air tight would work fine. The new gun cabinet I bought has a storage side that will fit the bill. I was also a little concerned about humidity but the powder containers seem to be sealed enough. Thanks
  17. Thanks guys ...I appreciate it. I hate to go 2 1/2 hours and find out I can't get in.
  18. Hmmmm. Didn't know they could restrict it if you put in above and took out below the park...but I guess the dam makes that impossible. I think there are falls towards the south end too...too bad. I have had good luck in the Mohawk doing that
  19. I have never hunted the park but was wondering if any of you guys have ever canoe hunted it?
  20. Anyone around there that can give me an idea of any on the ground snow in Marathon - Lisle area? Thinking about going down to camp this weekend but want to make sure I can get in.
  21. LOL....I don't want you cooking for me!. I think you meant internal temp of 160 for pork. cooking temp may be 375 but internal for pork is rcommended at 160. And to be honest with modern commercial methods they have backed off that temp for pork that is not ground...(just like burger). a pork loin or roast can be cooked to a lower temp similiar to beef. If you get your pork from the farmer down the road I would stay with the 160. I know agree with what you posted but I will probably still take my chances with the medium @ 145-150 for a finished temp. Hat eto over cook such a precious commodity
  22. Well I am finally going to make the plunge into reloading for my rifles. My wife is a little nervous about powder storage in the house. I didn't use the argument that all my ammo is stored in the house ;) . Where do you guys store your ammo/powder and what do you put it in?
  23. Theyprefer it when the pressure builds. I worked a project in West Virginia and I can't even beging to describe the terrain I say whitetails use. if you wanted to follow them you would need technical rock climbing gear. they used trails that would be better suited for mountain goats. I saw them go up shear faces using the smallest little ledges and this was not even during their open season.
