Shorten the NY Gun Season?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Helderberg Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
how do you regulate the doe take if the tags are good across the state? It would seem to me the guys in areas like region 3 that are always voicing concern about the huge pressure down there would really see a drop in the herd size if the permits were not regulated to a specific number -
Just realized this about your regular season tag

And bubba was talking bow uo north...not ML since that starts after Oct 1 ...which is new license year -
I think a lot of folks cheat on the price int he wrong places. I have heard a lot of talk about seeing in low light and light transmission. During legal hours i can't see that big of a difference. what I do think is a necessity and MUSt spend money on is good mounts and rings. and the twist in Leuopold I think are worth every penny. I can't tell you the number of guys with great scopes and awesome guns and buy the cheapest mounts and rings they can find.

I would be rigging the trampoline for the sides to drop down with a remote...lol

I love te looks of that gun Eddie.

My 2 cents...I have one of the Atecs a guy just listed in the hunting classifieds. I love it and for a $100 bucks you can't go wrong. that leaves the other $50 in your budget to get a GOOD set or mounts and rings

AND HEALTHY TO BOOT!!!

DING....DING....DING.... Give that man a prize!!! We never shot at deer as drivers unless it was behind us. the watchers let them come out of the drives or into the bottom of a few ravines we use to set up on. When I went with a big group up North of Sacandaga ...25-35 guys..... drivers yelled. I am sure we sounded like quite a crew barking and such ...but everyone was able to stay in line and in the right direction. I was only able to hunt with those guys one season but they were some of the safest guys I have ever hunted with. If you had 12 guys in line walking to do a drive the lead guy was the ONLY guy chambered. You did not chamber your gun until you were dropped off. Those guys had it down....and they were the type that drove on opening day...but we never saw another hunter. We were in big woods.

yeah frosted me a little too, Doe. I felt like $hit over the doe I lost up north and I burned the entire afternoon tracking her. I had decent blood at times....no snow and followed her 2 1/5 miles. i know in my heart I would have gotten her if the farmer had let me in there. The only thing that makes it better is i am betting it didn't go to waste.....I bet it is in his freezer...lol Even if the deer went 200 yards and the entire 200 yards was covered in tracks. I am betting with snow on the ground it wouldn't take you a day to find him. I dind't think to ask about the road thing. GREAT point. Maybe this guy fell pray to a jacker and he didn't go into a pile and they didn't attempt a retrieve

LOL. I agree...That is why I use the neck...and the texture is the same as pulled pork with a neck

try paper towel rolls...use thread on the ends....for long distance shots tape 3 end to end....keeps your M.O.A down

the snow was about 6-8" deep but had new snow down since the tracks were made. He said it looked like a rifle entrance woundso it was probably a week o the ground. Said he couldn't see blood because of the ne snow but the depressions of the deers tracks were still visible. I hat to judge too but I cant believe ...in snow....on public land you don't follow this guy til you run out of realestate. I mean ...let's assume the fat blocked it up and never bled a drop. You hae snow...follow the tracks...even if I missed I would have tried to catch back up to one like this

my father hunts with one with the BDC scope on it...it shoots as well as my encore out to 150 -
Buddy of mine came up on this dead deer intact in a thinck ravine doing a small 2 man drive. ..so wasn't that long ago. shot couple inches behind the front shoulder...straight through. He said it may have taken the top of the heart but definitely took both lungs. Can you imagine shooting at a buck like this and not following it up. The tracks were in the snow from what he said but were old so it was hit with snow on the ground. The shot may not have taken this monster off his feet but he couldn't have gone far. 23" inside spread...6 and change circumferences and green scored 153 and change NET...and that is an 8 pointer. guy didnt deserve to bag this buck....oh and it was on public land.

well maybe you will luck out. My daughter and wife did the same for me based on my comments of wanting one. I was looking at the Omega nd she got me the Encore because it could be used more.....Looking back maybe she is trying to get me out of the house...lol Good luck -
should have really cleared him out buy saying not to worry it has been 2 seasons since you got one...lol. I have come across hunters in the process of begining a drive or going on watch. I have told them what we were doing and how and never had a problem ....they usually just turned around and watched. some even took deer, especially the ones that were at teh start of the drives. those old smart ones like to go back throught the drivers

If she has it on layaway or something you could get it changed...once you take possession you are toast. If you have the receipt go and apply the layaway on the one you really want ....pay the difference and leave the balance as it should be......I don't know about you but my guns are like my wifes shoes...I wouldn't know one from the other -

Shorten the NY Gun Season?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Helderberg Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I have a great idea. let's issue DMP's in the areas that need them and allow the one doe per implement as described. That would be the means of population control the DEC wants. And since we want to have great big bucks like other states ...let's go to a lottery based system...you draw a tag ...go for it...if not...shoot the does. take any buck you want but enjoy it becasue you might not get a tag next year..... -
I really think you are giving the dopes that shoot others too much credit. If the possibility of shooting a human doesn't get them to exercise proper safety and restraint, do you honestly believe an AR would. I am not for AR but let's assume it is in effect. I don't think these same guys would be impacted by it at all. I have not witnessed it myself but have heard stories from guys I trust about coming across deer in PA that were dropped in their tracks and left because they didn't me the AR's. I am betting these are the same type of guys that shoot bolts/ arrows and bullets intot he sides of houses...shoot into deer drives and such. The problem is not the type of hunting it is the mentality of some of the people out there.
