  1. Anywhere but bed will do... Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  2. Starting to think it's just me.... I'm working on my second bird-less season. Last year, no gobbles, except one that only commited till 60 yrds and ran when he saw the henn decoy. This year basically no gobbles, only on the roost. Went from seeing 5+ LBs at the farm to one or two lone hens as of may 1. Been all over the place and maybe I'm being pessimistic but everybody seems to be hearing and talking with birds.... What gives !!? I know we have alot of predators in our area but I feel that a hot Tom won't shut up no matter what. Please, someone else join me in the misery... Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  3. Up and down and all the way around the southerntier. Saw a dozen hens and heard 3 distant gobbles. 2 were at 1158. Figures Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  4. Headed to southern tier to run and gun. Hoping to finally get an opportunity and punch a tag !!! Working on my second bird-less season. My oh my how having kids affects available time in the woods... After it early. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  5. Another morning with no gobbles and no Tom's. It must be me.... Everytime I see a gobbler and put him to bed they go quiet and dissapear. Had a flock of 30 at the farm till may 1st... Hunting turkeys with no gobbling is like catching a fish that doesn't fight.. back to the grind tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get a hour or two in throughout the week. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  6. I'm baffled at the time spent at the farm over the last couple weeks and still not one gobble. Seeing a pile of Tom's and Jake's just no noise. Sometimes I feel it's half the hunt when they are rolling. Tom my dad got this am was in the field with hens for 30 min before coming our way. Strutted a bunch but no noise. Hoping that changes tomorrow am as I'm first on deck for a longbeard !! If I see one far enough I'll be pulling out the mojo scoot n shoot and skull dragging into punching distance. That's my first bird goal this year ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  7. I'll pass that on to my dad !! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  8. #'s don't match the spurs Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  9. My dad also dubbed him "ugly" as wet Tom's sure aren't as good looking as dry ones. Especially after they flop around in a water filled combine track. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  10. Video will take some time. Here is a pic. Dad's first question as the Tom came close " who's got a longer beard,me or him". I assure him the Tom... Nuff said. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  11. Blind paid off, again. Dad shot a Tom @ 15yrds, after the Tom walked far enough away from the blind to shoot !! He came in and walked around the blind so close he couldn't shoot !! All on film.... Great memory !! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  12. That pic was about 45 min after the blind went up Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  13. U are seriously missing out ! Worth every penny. You can get away with drinking coffee and picking your nose, with birds in right out the window ( so I've heard ). Also the weather. Great to have for rainy days ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  14. Come on now, could be the morning you never forget ! Could be that day " you weren't gonna go out, but". Big Tom ain't taking tomorrow off ! Your name leads me to believe you will be in the woods... Or change it to sleepy feathers. Lol Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  15. I am very hopeful that both me and pops will flop 2 tomorrow. Lots of birds in the fields all day long. Should be able to flop, Tim Horton's, then flop another ! We shall see. Good luck to all my fellow beard collectors!!! Be safe Ps, I think they are ok with my blind placement.... Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  16. I had a 7mm as well. I understand how you feel. I swallowed a few pain pills in a row and still cryed like a baby. Ended up passing it, felt like peeing a cinder block wrapped in razor wire. No more brisk ice tea for me !!! Good luck ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  17. Loosen the rear diff bolt for a few hundred miles. It will coat everything in gear oil and prevent rust Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  18. And worst case, I have a few stuffed in the magazine to follow. Although I can count the turkeys I've killed that needed 2 shots on one finger Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  19. Actually, I don't want to give my top secret methods out but I do the same maaabbpp I do for deer. Nothing like getting that head way out and neck extended when u make Tom say "what the..." Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  20. Xr's are #5's. I'm not certain I will invest in any more "expensive" shells. I don't think I could be happier than the XRs. This is my first bird season with the red dot, but in comparison when I had it on my 870 slug gun I was able to group 3" @ 100yrds vs 3" at 50 yrds with rifle sights... So my logic is I want a tighter pattern since I have a better point of aim. Granted, if I plug one at 15 yrds the pics will have some gore, but the bird will be dead ! 21. Not sure why first upload didn't work... Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  22. Finally took the time to sit down and do some math on patterns. Actually, I did no math, I let the reactive targets tell me the true story. I've done a ton of searching and had absolutely no luck on actual patterning of a turkey choke on a versamax, so those that may find this helpful, your welcome. My setup is a versamax with a jellyhead choke tube. All shells are 3.5". I shot heavy shot magnum blend (MB), Remington nitro, and Winchester xr long beard. After a couple practice shots with the factory full choke vs jelly head I quickly tossed the factory back in the bag. I like real tight patterns for turkeys. I have a sparc 2 red dot so margin for error is something I don't deem a priority. I do feel that without a scope or red dot, the xr was too tight of a pattern to allow for error with beads. Here are a few pics from 30 yrds and 40 yrds. I'll be running the XR for sure. I'm impressed. Even the rem nitro out performed the MB and will be a backup if XR is not available. Mainly I'm just thankful that the 5$/shell magnum blend can stay on the shelf too. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  23. I swear you op said her first bird.... But I'll blame the auto correct for making the mistake. Always count on me to ruin a good thing...Lol. Sorry DUDE!!! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  24. They are all junk, no matter what you get. Sometimes they last sometimes they don't ! First new vehicle ever last year, 15 Silverado. Came with rail dust, radio sometimes works, and I'm on my 3rd radiator and thermostat. But, I have a warranty and I get almost 20mpg. Also notice how my son's Ford can't handle the payload and has blown out the suspension. All over a couple of pretzel fishys. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
  25. Great job !! Awesome bird right off the roost... That's the way to teach em ! Holes in a decoy are a sign of a patient Hunter, and will be a conversation starter for your memorable hunt ! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
