Getting a pistol permit in tompkins county
88GW replied to carloracer1987's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I think Zhe Wiz pretty well covered it for you! -
Thanks for the powder tip. Hodgdons Pyrodex also comes in 30 grain pellets so I could feasibly load 150 grains, 130 grains, 120 grains, 90 grains, 80 grains etc. I may try these since this is the brand I am already shooting.

SBuff. Sent u a PM. Steve B. Well if we get the snow today that is expected I will test that theory out.
-
Steve. Do you belong to any gun clubs in the albany area?? I too also live in the albany area. Lou

Thanks for the graff and sons info. Will check em out when reordering. According to the info from tc on 2 vs 3 pellets they claim 2600 ish ft lbs with 3 pellets and 1900 ish ft lbs with 2 pellets.
-
Sbuff I did buy directly from Harvester. I am not sure if I want to drop down to two pellets since I will lose about 700 ft lbs of energy, this is the difference between a .243 and .308 which I have successfully harvested deer with both calibers. I know 2 pellets and probably 1 pellet will kill a deer with a well placed shot. I would just rather have the extra energy upon impact. In my mind more energy at impact means more trauma.
-
Just shot 3 pellets, no loose powder. May try 2 pellets next time. Hope the scope holds up, if not the bases and rings can be re-used and I'll mount another scope. I have a TC pistol scope on my .308 handgun and it is holding up, but the msrp on it is around 400 bucks not 60 like this one I mounted on the Impact. Only time will tell I guess.
-
I have the TC 3-9 x 40 that I bought online from Dick's. $59.99 with TC scope rings and mounts. For that price I was willing to try it out. Seems to be pretty good, time will tell.
-
First time out with it and did pretty well, actually first time ever shooting a ML. Loaded nicely with black harvester crush ribs, 260 gr. scorpion gold pt,3-50 grain pellets of pyrodex and CCI 209 m primers. I attached a photo of a 100yd 3 shot group.
-
If you are still not considering the TC Impact, I can now tell you it is a tack driver!!!!!!!! 3 shot groups at 100yds and they are all touching. It was my first time out with it and first time shooting a ML so I am pretty impressed. I was shooting 3-50 grain Pyrodex pellets, 260 grain Harvester Scorpion Gold PT's, with black Harvester sabots. Seems to be a pretty good combo. With all the crap you need to take out with you to the range or field to shoot theses things the added breech plug wrench was no big deal to me. I would think the toolless design after a few shots may be tough to remove with your fingers as I noticed even with the wrench it was tough to get breech plug out after a few shots even after placing grease on breech plug threads. Not sure if its an expansion issue after it gets heated up or crud built up or just par for the course with ML's.

Bought the Harvester 260 Gr. PT Golds in .45 cal with black crush ribs. Loads like a dream. Now we will have to see how it shoots.
-
I purchased the TC Impact and the breech is not tooless. I have read great reviews on the Impact and know people who love their Wolfs and Optimas as well. I like the fact the TC is US made and am willing to take the wrench with me in a bag, it is only three turns and the breech plug is out. I wish I could give you a review of the performance of the Impact at the range but I guess you will have to wait.

My daughter currently shoots a Bear Panda compound bow. It is an old school looking long bow with two pulleys. I am looking to upgrade her to a modern compound with adjustable draw and weight. If you have anything that fits this description shoot me a message or leave information in this post. Thanks.

Can't ship ammo to New york?
88GW replied to jim335's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Gander has a ship to store option that is free. Not sure if this would help? I am thinking you could order what you want then hit ship to store and see if that works. I doubt it would tell you you can't send ammo to the store address where they sell ammo. Who knows? Might be worth a shot. -
Well I guess I will be practicing just for muscle memory purposes in the garage. From now on and will have to trek out to my gun club for long range archery practice. Kinda sucks but I understand the safety behind it if I were to have an arrow go skyward for some fluke chance.

Thanks for the replies. I figure with a lifetime warranty and its ability to hold up to your shotguns, I should be good to go.
-
Good to hear that it has held up. I have looked at them and for the price they seem pretty good. I am not sure how to compare the recoil of the 12ga shotgun to a .308 handgun.
-
Anyone use one of these or know about them. I am looking top mount one on a TC .308 handgun. Looking for quick target acquisition for deer hunting. Shots no longer than 100yds probably more like 50 yds though. Wondering if it will holkd up to the recoil of this little hand cannon. Currently II have a TC 2-7 scope on it but it is just too slow for treestand hunting. Shooting from a bench it is a tack driver.
-
Thanks!! I will be purchasing some to try out. What are you shooting them out of, accuracy is good??
-
Harvester sent me new crush ribs but that did not work. They also sent me some scorpion pt bullets with black crush ribs that load like butter. Apparently the TC does not like the green sabots with .44's in them, guess I'll have to stick with black crush ribs and .45's. Has anyone shot the Harvester Scorpion bullets?? I have read some great reviews and seen pics of them mushroomed after recovery from an animal and they look great.

100 Hornady .44 240 Grain XTP hollow point bullets. Use them for muzzleloader or reloading 44 cartridges. Hornady 50 cal sabots also available. Can pick up in Albany NY or you pay to ship. Make reasonable offer.
-
Green Crush Rib Package for .44 bullets Hornady .44 XTP Bullets and measurement The line up Crush Rib, Hornady, TC TC's are easiest to load, with a close second to the Hornady and in last place is the Crush RIb which will force a loading rod through your hand without a t-handle.

Green Crush Rib measurement .5020 Green Hornady Smooth Sabot Measurement .4965 Black T/C Shockwave Sabot Smooth Measurement .4955 Approximately six thousandths size difference between Crush Rib and Hornady/TC Sabot.
-
I will post a pic of the box and sabots. They are in fact hornady 44 xtp that measure .430 exactly. Is it possible the green sabots are faulty, they are sending me new ones to try and remedy this problem. Weird though that the hornadys i bought from dicks in 44 in there green hornady sabots load easier than the crush ribs.
-
Have not shot it yet but it is thoroughly cleaned, bore brushed it patched it etc. Tried again today and the crush ribs were near impossible. All others still ok. BTW i contacted harvester and they are sending me new crush ribs to check out. Well see. I guess thats why all muzzleloaders are little different and u have to try what works best for that gun.
