  1. Virgil I agree With you100%. In most of my searches it seems most handguns were from out of state which would make them all illegal in NY. I am just trying to put together an intelligent argument about illegal guns and crimes. Hoping to find stats and not cliches as you put it. Im still working at this and will post info for all to share and sound intelligent when speaking to anti-gunners or pro safe act individuals. I feel it would be more powerful and persuasive than the typical its my second ammendment right speech.
  2. Thank you virgil for your interest. You assumed correctly in what I am trying to convey. It seems impossible to find info regarding illegally possessed weapons. Plenty of stats on handguns, pistols, rifles etc. Unfortunately without numbers I can't just make statements regarding guns used in crimes.
  3. I have searched and have been unable to find statistics regarding the use of illegally possessed or stolen guns being used in the commission of a crime or murder in NY state. I would like to be able to present this info. to all of the supporters of the SAFE ACT. Most information I have found just lists types of firearms used and not if the guns were legal or not. Any info with links would be great.
  4. What are they going for now?? I have seen some at a local shop for 500.00as well as GunBroker. Is that the going rate now after the UNSAFE ACT? Secondly are these going to be immune to the SAFE ACT since it does not have a detachable magazine??
  5. I will found out in about 3.5 yrs what renewal is like. I asked the clerk when I applied about the renewal process and her reply was that a lot can change in 5 years. So I guess only time will tell.
  6. Centre County no longer accepts applications by mail. They all must be done in person to take an electronic photo. They must be storing them on a computer now.
  7. For some states you do have to show residency, apparently not in PA provided you have a NY pistol permit already. Do just what I said where I said and you are all set. The benefit is that having a PA and NY pistol permit open you up to having reciprocity with quite a few states. Somewhere between 20 and 30 if I recall correctly.
  8. I have my pistol permit from PA. I went about 1.5 years ago to Centre County PA to Sheriff Denny Nau's office. Showed them my NYS Pistol Permit, filled out paper work, paid 20 or 25 dollars, had photo taken and was outta there in less than 20 minutes with a PA concealed carry permit/photo ID. I will have to renew it in 5 years(via mail) for 25 dollars unless something changes between now and then.
  9. For a young shooter I think your doing very well. Don't adjust your scope until your groups tighten up, more practice at 50 yards will help with this. Don't get carried away and start shooting longer distances or you may become discouraged. You may want to just use your bipod and fill a hunting sock with rice or corn to rest the buttstock on, especially if you are already shooting off of a solid surface. Good luck.
  10. Would love to be able to get my hands on some.308 ammo. All online sales are out of stock or 40 bucks for 20 rounds of American Eagle which is totally insane. Even .22 ammo is sold out online. WTF??
  11. Go with the Colt. They are no longer made higher quality in my opinion. GP-100's can be had any day of the week.
  12. It seems going price on gunbroker seems to be in the 500 ballpark. I am a revolver fan and the trooper is an excellent Colt model(I owned one), can definitely handle a steady diet of full magnum loads. How much bluing wear, any burred screws or any pitting, ding, etc would cause me to pass on it or get it for significantly less. Just my .02 cents.
  13. Was wondering if the hunters out there would be successful. Sounded too good to be true.
  14. You can go with a bow to Buttermilk Falls State Park or Robert Treman State Park if that works for you.
  15. Thank you all for the replies. I think it is safe to assume everyone has their own opinions and theories on this and that is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Again.
  16. Since the snow has fallen I have been out and about scouting the woods. Can you guys tell me what you usually look for when scouting in the winter or any tips or tricks that have worked well for you in the past? My #1 question is do deer tend to follow the same routes that I am currently seeing in the snow???
  17. I had issues with my TC Impact with hornady .44 XTP's and green Harvester Crush Rib Sabots. Almost impossible to load. I switched to the Harvester Scorpion PT Gold Bullets and Black Harvester Crush Ribs and they load very well and have excellent accuracy. Give em a try I think you will like them.
  18. Gonna get some guys togetehr to do this. Prolly only going to the state parks though. What was your experience like hunting in the DMFA area? Any luck??
  19. This was an act of PURE EVIL!!! PERIOD. Not sure if we can ever prevent this or anything like it from happening again.
  20. .550 50 of them for $10.00 .562 50 of them for $10.00 http://www.stonewallcreekoutfitters.com/shooting-supplies/bullets-balls-and-slugs/
  21. Not sure. Where I currently hunt it is a steep, hilly narrow patch of 250 acres. Stream runs length of property with some thickets, pines and hardwoods. No fields with food for miles. Ive hunted the pines, the ridges, draws, valleys, funnels etc. I would love to hear some suggestions so I don't end up eating tag soup.
  22. 4S is shorter by about .25" than 5, but slightly thicker by .07". Different charger plug for the 5 compared to other iphones or ipod touches. Both 8 megapixel cameras. Other than that there are technical things related to chips etc. that most of us won't notice. Oh and price 99.00 for 4s or 199.00 for 5. My choice is to go with the .99 cent iphone 4. Siri sucks and I dont care about the 5 megapixel camera(iphone4) vs 8 megapixel camera (iphone 4s). The app I really like best for hunting is Antler Insanity. Its free and it allows you to plot your stands, get wind and weather for your stand site and allows you to use GPS to "walk to" any of your stands. The plotting of your stands is easy and straightforward and allows you to better examine your stands using the maps.
