  1. I bought these for my 14 year old daughter and it seems nice. Not waterproof but the quality is there. I was going to go the used route too but found people wanted as much as I could buy this stuff new. Plus if your near BassPro they may have it in stock to try on. https://www.cabelas.com/product/home/new-for-fall/she-outdoor-hunting-apparel/pc/105625080/c/106069680/sc/544961880/she-red-head-insulated-silent-hide-jacket/2816097.uts?slotId=1 https://www.cabelas.com/product/home/new-for-fall/she-outdoor-hunting-apparel/pc/105625080/c/106069680/sc/544961880/she-red-head-insulated-silent-hide-bib/2816096.uts?slotId=0
  2. Caught this one spooking some deer in the am. Slick Tricks did the job.
  3. Has anyone used shoot through mesh or screen material from Lowes so you can draw without getting busted?
  4. Blue path is where deer usually walk from fields to woods or vice versa. Yellow dots are property boundaries. Pink dots are current stands. X represents where I want to build ground blind. It is thick scrub brush in that area even though aerial doesnt show it.
  5. I have a spot where the deer walk down the middle of a field consistently where there are no large trees to put a stand in and very thick scrub brush on the edge. My thought was to build a homemade ground blind constructed of some pallets as the frame, roofing paper lined so it is dark inside and old christmas trees with various brush and limbs to cover the pallet. My hope is to have it be permanent so the deer get use to it and allow me a shot as they walk through the field. Anyone have any insight on this from your own experience or someone elses?
  6. Read this. Seems as though dec is not standing behind this and they are sticking with whatever data they collected from a 2016 study.
  7. Yes. I live in 4J bow only, so after I went to the southern tier for gun opener I have only been bow hunting.
  8. Seeing chasing activity in 4J, Albany County. Yesterday big buck trailing doe at 9:30

    2nd rut

Went out to my hunting spot yesterday and witnessed a large racked buck following after a doe. She really wasn't into it as she took off running as he was trotting after her. Monday pm hunt I saw a lot of buck movement, one slammer, one six, one spike and two doe. Gonna get out for an all day sit Friday.
  10. https://huntingny.com/forums/topic/23899-harvester-bullets/#comment-318385 try this. should show a post i did a while back with my impact
  11. I have the bushnell chuck adams model with angle compensation and it works very well. I would check on the Mike Waddell version as it has naglecompensation and can be had for about 135 on amazon. BTW check and see if redfield can warranty yours. Its worth a shot.
  12. My 12 year old has been hunting with me since she was 6 years old. We have enjoyed many hours of hunting and daddy daughter bonding, you have to remember to be selective in the days you choose to go hunting to make it enjoyable. Remember to pack snacks and drinks for the little ones and give them a job to do while hunting with you. I can remember a time where I gave her an estrus bleat to use and she would hit that can every 10 minutes on the dot. That particular day we had a buck walk in and several doe, she was so excited even though I never connected. She still talks about this particular hunt and how much fun she had, she also realized hunting requires patience and that not every time you go out you get a deer. She cant wait till she is strong enough to draw 35 pounds to bow hunt and if this law goes through I'm sure she will be chomping at the bit to get out and shoot the .243 that I keep telling her is her deer rifle.
  13. If you are referring to the proposal for 12 year olds to hunt big game it includes crossbow and gun.
  14. I guess we should revert back to spears, rocks and other primitive methods. Forget blackpowder, smokeless powder, scopes, semi auto rifles, bows with cams, drop away rests, carbon arrows, expanding broadheads, laser rangefinders. All this technology sucks!
  15. I agree about the physical control aspect as well. PA youth hunting states mentor must be in arms length of youth hunter. Having said this I would still like to see this go through.
  16. No idea. Its in the works. Contact your local reps letting them know you want the change.
  17. I think they covered the bases well. ] 3. 18. Contact your local representatives I have listed below. It would be nice to get youth involved and help our numbers grow. NEW YORK STATE CONSERVATION COUNCIL 8 East Main Street Ilion, NY 13357 LEGISLATION IS NOW PENDING TO LOWER THE MINIMUM AGE FOR BIG GAME HUNTING WITH FIREARMS TO TWELVE YEARS OF AGE. Assembly bill A8358 sponsored by Assemblywoman Gunther and companion Senate bill S5434 sponsored by Senator Griffo are currently pending in their respective houses' Environmental Conservation Committees. The NYSCC strongly supports this change. Increasing the opportunities for young people to participate in one of the state's premier outdoor activities will help our youth develop new skills and cultivate lifelong participation in outdoor sports.  The DEC's current five-year deer management plan strongly recommends that the minimum age for big game hunting with a firearm be lowered to twelve.  Nationally, all states allow youth age twelve to hunt big game with a firearm and 60% have a younger minimum age.  Experience has demonstrated that mentored youth hunters are the safest hunters afield. Participation in hunting activities can provide quality time for family bonding while sharing the benefits of relating to the natural world. Please support this legislation by contacting your New York State legislators and urging them to press for passage. If you don't know your legislator, now is a good time to get to know him or her. If you don't know their name or address, go to http://assembly.state.ny.us/or www.nysenate.gov. The Council's Memorandum of Support can be found on our website www.nyscc.com. Call, write, email or stop in today. We can't make this happen without the active support of New York's sportsmen. And make sure to tell your friends https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2015/a8358 http://legislation.nysenate.gov/pdf/bills/2015/S5434 NYS Assembly Environmental Conservation Members Chair • Steve Englebright Members • Thomas Abinanti • Marc Butler • William Colton • Jane Corwin • Marcos Crespo • Steven Cymbrowitz • Patricia Fahy • Andrew Garbarino • Deborah Glick • Aileen Gunther • Ellen Jaffee • Todd Kaminsky • Brian Kavanagh • Barbara Lifton • Peter Lopez • Donna Lupardo • Daniel O'Donnell • Steven Otis • Anthony H. 19. A lot of counties have this available and it is very useful if you have a smart phone you can type in your lat/lon coordinates and mark it on a map so you have a visual where the boundary line is. If you search blank county, tax map, GIS you may get a pretty sweet mapwith boundary lines, owners name, and as you move over the map the lat/lon should be displayed. Obviously not foolproof but gets you in the ballpark.
  20. One thing to remember is draw weight and length are related. If your child has a long draw even at the lowest poundage you will never see 5 lbs of draw, it may be 15-20 lbs which will be too much for a 7 or 8 year old. My 11 year old daughter has a mission menace turned all the way down and set to 20" draw and has some difficulty drawing. My recommendation would be a round cammed bow, long bow style. My daughter started with a bear panda and shot very well with it. Check out the bear scout for 35$ he will have a blast with it!
