PUTNAM — Authorities said a bobcat that pounced onto a 49-year-old woman at the door to her Washington County home tested positive for rabies. Cindy Bowman told The Post-Star of Glens Falls (http://www.poststar.com ) that the attack occurred last Thursday as she was letting her dog into her home in the town of Putnam, located between the northern end of Lake George and the Vermont border. Bowman said the bobcat latched onto her face and bit or scratched her head, shoulder, arms and thigh. The bobcat then went after her daughter's boyfriend, Nate Nadeau, who shot and killed the animal. The bobcat later tested positive for rabies. Bowman and Nadeau are undergoing a series of shots for the disease. State environmental conservation officials said bobcat attacks on humans are extremely rare. I have a 7S if someone has a 4H to trade for it.

Been hunting bow in 4h. I have seen a dandy of a buck at 75 yds and another decent six pointer as well as doe. Never in range though. Different story with a gun though. I will be hunting 7s at our hunting camp. Good luck

Whether you kill the doe or nature takes its course the decision is ultimately up to you. Fawns are not guaranteed to survive with mom or without. They are the weakest and will be preyed on, they will usually have the least amount of fat so cold winters will be hard on them without as much fat reserve. If snow is deep they expend a great deal of energy just to walk.

This showed up on another forum and they are claiming it was a high fence hunt. North East Whitetail in Elizaville NY. $3,000 plus to hunt there, 250 fenced acres.

Ants You beat my post by 4 minutes. I must be a slow typer. LOL

Ran into same problem. Scope tube is short compared to distance that rings are mounted on bases. You need a one piece picatinny base so you can mount your rings closer together to allow you to have more fore and aft movement. Usually moving the front ring back helps on the rail. I had to do this as well. Here is a pic of a rail that would give you plenty of adjustability. When I go home I can check my setup out and take a pic. It was very frustrating to get mounted.

I have an older Savage 110 in .243 long action and ran into the same problem with a 3-9x40 scope as well. I ended up purchasing tall rings so that the bell would not interfere with the barrel. After rereading your post are you saying the holes on receiver dont line up with the bases?

You mentioned he spent 10 minutes discussing things you can do to make sure it wont happen again. Would you mind sharing some of these tips as they may be helpful to others using climbers. Thanks.

Had a doe blow when walking out of my stand Sunday evening. I was several hundred yards from my stand and heard her blow at me, she stood there waving her tail but did not move. I feel she heard me walking but did not see me. She then turned broadside and was looking around, she blew several more times but did not move. After several minutes she walked away. I say carry on with what you are doing.

What is this noise? Seriously. I ve been out and hearing it as well. The best I can figure is some bird just not sure what kind.

Make sure when you set it up on the tree that the base is angled up and adjust the top the same way. As the tree decreases in diameter it will flatten out. I have had some trees that narrow quickly and have not been able to get as high as I want to. Practice is key, but I still find that I spend a great deal of time(5-10min) setting it up and climbing trying to be quiet. Good luck and remember to wear your harness.

Burris Fastfire sight on handgun for deer hunting?
88GW replied to Warren's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Have no experience with that particular holo sight but I have this on a TC .308cal handgun and it is great. Handles the recoil from this hand cannon no problem. Many reviews I read about this claimed how tough it is and I believe it. They can be had for about 175 with rings and have a lifetime warrranty. I believe it is a 5 moa red dot with adjustable brightness. I have had no issues of being able to see the dot even in the brightest conditions. -
You will need t handle starter to get the bullet/sabot started, ramrod which will come with the ML, powder, sabots, bullets, powder, primers, ML solvents, .50 cal patches. This should be the minimum just to fire it. You may consider speedloaders if you plan on hunting with it. I bought this starter kit from Cabelas which has worked nicely for me. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Black-Powder/Loading-Accessories|/pc/104792580/c/104701680/sc/104436180/Cabelas-Muzzleloader-Starter-Kit-150-50-Caliber/739889.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Floading-accessories%2F_%2FN-1100209%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104436180%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%25253BMMcat104792580%253Bcat104701680&WTz_l=SBC%253BMMcat104792580%3Bcat104701680%3Bcat104436180 I would suggest buying your primer and powder locally as there is a HAZMAT fee associated with shipping these items. I use pellets but many use loose powder. Your call on that one.

One of the first official legal shots against the SAFE Act landed with a thud a few minutes ago, as acting Albany County State Supreme Court Justice Thomas McNamara denied activist Bob Schulz’s request for a preliminary injunction against the anti-gun measure. “Judicial review of a message of necessity is not allowed,” McNamara said, noting that there is long Court of Appeals precedent that limits the court’s intrusion into legislative affairs. Schulz, pictured here, said he would on Thursday seek permission to appeal his request to the state Court of Appeals, saying that because it involves a constitutional matter, he believes he can skip the mid level appeals process. “This judge can not overturn the rulings of the high court of the state,” Schulz said after the brief hearing at which McNamara ruled from the bench. Defending the state was Assistant AG James McGowan who said “Our position is the judiciary has to recognize that there are co-equal branches of government.” Technically, Schulz was one of more than a 1,000 New Yorkers who are upset at the law. And his is one of several suits filed or about to be filed against the measure which bans the sale of assault style weapons and places new restrictions on gun and ammo owernship. “What the court said today is if you don’t like them vote the bums out,” remarked one of the plaintiffs who attended the hearing, Len Degiovine of Westerlo. Indeed, Schulz, in laying out his injunction request, recounted how the bill was passed literally in the middle of the night hours after legislative leaders and Gov. Andrew Cuomo decided to issue a Message of Necessity which voids the usual three day waiting and study period required before a law is passed. “No member of the legislature asked to see it,” Schulz said, referring to rank and file lawmakers who got to read neither the SAFE Act nor the message of necessity before voting. Schulz – who is alternately admired as an important check on government abuse and condemned as a far-right fringe player — was upbeat noting that he has battled state government for years over issues such as bond acts, and tax laws. He believes his efforts to stop the SAFE Act at a minimum have made more New Yorkers realize that there is a state constitution and he added that this issue seems to have riled up people to an unprecedented degree. “In all my years I’ve never seen this kind of interest and anger,” he said. http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/181571/no-injunction-against-safe-act-plaintiff-will-appeal/

Need help gathering gun crime statistics?
88GW replied to 88GW's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
5.9. Thanks for the site, some interesting info. The reason I am going after this info is our town is actually trying to support the NYS SAFE ACT. There is a public comment period and I have 5 minutes to get my point across. I would like some cold hard facts rather than the typical rhetoric these people are use to hearing. Other memebers of my sportsmans club will be speaking as well. Thanks -
Need help gathering gun crime statistics?
88GW replied to 88GW's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Ants. That is most definitely the case. I have read several instances in the city of Albany where I am close to where the gun was found to be stolen from florida or other states. I am still looking for cold hard stats on this though. I have tried but to no avail. I too am curious about the secondary sales loopholes.
