  1. Saw 1 buck and 7 Doe tonight. Buck was just seeking a real nice 6 pt. My neighbor texted me said all hell broke loose in my corn field. Chasing bleating and stuff for 15 minutes. I missed it right behind the barn! lol
  2. Good luck to all going out this morning. Here in 8P we have a heavy frost 28 degrees and no wind. Going to hear them a mile away! My part time job at the school gets me home at 2. Quick shower and out the door and I'm in stand by 3. GL
  3. I had a big buck come by years back on opening day. His front left leg was shot off and just dangling. He came right under my stand and my gun jammed. I just watched him hobble off into the Pine thicket. I always wondered what happened to it. We never saw it again. I guess the lucky ones get by that winter and do ok. Others probably probably have a harsh first winter or meet up with coyotes and die.
  4. Went to a new stand on the lease. Had a Doe and two young ones come in after she was blowing at something. About 6:00 had a mature single Doe cruise by trotting and looking back. Thought this was it but nothing showed.
  5. Nice one taken by my neighbor. G2's over a foot long. Came in to check out a decoy! Think it will gross between 130-140.
  6. No repeat performance yesterday!
  7. nope and I gave the going rate.
  8. So you guys know I leased 70 acres across the road from me. We are in it to buy when the time is right. The guys we took it from were from the next town over. We really never cared for them, nor did the neighbors. Shooting after dark, alcohol in the woods and on. It has all been going fine until today. Hopefully this was a one time thing but I hear a car way down the road horn blaring. He just drives all the way to the end of lease baring the horn. Then drives off. I recognized the car and knew it was them. I was in a stand where I could see the road. I'm sure it was the youngster of the bunch and he got it out of his system. I have their old posted sign name and address. Partners in my lease are a NYS Trooper Detective and a Suffolk County Detective. If it keeps up they will get a visit! I get that they must be upset they lost the lease but they were paying 1k for 70 acres. Got to stay with the times and offer the going rate or owner will take other offers. Didn't see anything today think it was the horn??? lol
  9. I know we have talked about pan frying it. Can someone give me some tips on the best way to cook it?
  10. First scrapes of the year 8P. I'll be out tonight a bit windy but it's a killing night!
  11. I'm in 8P Steuben county, no moose here.
  12. So I got everytrhing done today looked at the clock and it was 4:20. Threw on the hunting clothes and went to the closest stand on the new lease. It borders a clover field. Right across from my house. It wasn't raining so I went. Got in and had 12 Turkey come by 2 were Toms. Rain picked up and I had a Big Doe and two fawns come but would not commit to going to the field and turned around. Not 10 minutes later right behind me at 15 yards another big doe and fawn. I grab my bow and pull up she is a bit spooked and jumps a few feet but is broadside. I put the 10 yard pin on her and let loose. Sounded like I hit her she bounded off and stoped. Hoping she would go down I watched as she tratted away with the fawn but tail was between her legs. Because of the rain I got down right away and looked for the arrow. I found it and it was a clean miss. While looking for the arrow I said to myself man if I hit her the blood would mix with all this rain on the leaves and it would be hard tracking. I'll take a clean miss.
  13. And you farted making that noise. Knew it was you!
  14. BB are great tasting. We try not to shoot them or young Does. If I get the chance I will take a Doe early season with bow. When the rut heats up I won't bother shooting Does until later gun season.
  15. I'm in my stand last night. It's about 5:30 and I hear branches breaking in the old pine stand. This is a huge piece of woods that was planted years ago. The pine trees are huge. The bottom of the pines are all dead branches. For about three minutes a animal walked through breaking every branch it came in contact with. It was making so much noise I just couldn't believe it. As it got close to me it veered to the left where the pines end. There was some deep vocalization at one point sounded like a drawn out Whaaaaaaaaao. Not human I'm sure. Deer or Bear what do you think? We have plenty of Bear up here FYI. Thanks, FL
  16. I saw a buck and a huge bear. He came through the pines like a bull moose. So much noise. He stoped 40 yards from me and headed to the corn.
  17. saw six Doe tonight from this beautiful stand on new lease.
  18. That's a tough one to swallow. Too bad shit happens.
