  1. Like FS said it only takes a few times to see or harvest a real nice buck and you are hooked. I send video and pictures to the guys cause I'm up here full time. Passing nice 8 pts and such cause I know that big dude or two are out there. Like Doc I'm first to congratulate a guy killing a small buck because it is their tag and trophy. As for kids they should shoot what ever they want. nothing like seeing them harvest their first deer.
  2. It took my guys a couple of years to understand the process. First coming up they would shoot small bucks. I always pushed the point to better yourself from the year before. Go bigger and you will see the difference. Now they are holding off and looking for 2.5 year olds and better. Shoot a Doe for meat. I like where we are at in my neck of the woods. QDM is working. We have one group that comes up from Maryland and hunts the first 5 days and leaves. They will shoot small ones but really don't put a hurt on things.
  3. I'm going to relocate the sets. In my travels I have seen 1 set of fox , squirrel and a bunch of rabbit tracks. Doc I think you are right about the clod weather. They are not moving.
  4. Just pulled these today. Along with the buck a ton of Doe 1/3 mature the rest buttons and yearling doe. Looks like two bucks dropped horns around the beginning of Jan. Enjoy!
  5. So I've been setting up against trees and big logs. Cubby sets. Trap is anchored by a wire. Changed bait to sardines today. Not having any luck. May move some traps this week not sure though.
  6. My brother calls it the Lego deer. Never seen anything like it. Must be angle and motion.
  7. Good post Doc, looks like you stirred up a bunch of great memories from all of us!
  8. Pretty much for coon, skunk and opossum. Leg hold traps with salmon/sardines as bait.
  9. Yes sorry that camera was set up wrong am/pm!
  10. I did it a few times at hunting season. I can remember a foot of snow and temps in the teens. Nothing like getting into your sleeping bag at 8pm to get warm and have a great night of sleep. Like you Doc that would be tough to do these days. I do want to go back to the Catskills to hunt and do some camping one of these seasons. We would camp at the state lands by Russel and Campbell brook on Morton Hill road.
  11. Had 1/5 traps sprung. Nothing in it but it was moved like 2 feet. Something was there.
  12. I still have two cameras out but this is what I got off of three. Along with these bucks were some nice looking Doe. Also saw bear tracks yesterday in the snow. Pretty odd don't you think?
  13. My neighbor loves to trap and has many extra traps that I can use. He sat down with me and explained how to do it then we went outside and did a few mock traps. I passed! Can't wait to check! Thanks guys!!
  14. Got my first lesson today and was given 5 traps to place. Wish me luck!
  15. Isn't this exactly what we are not supposed to do?
  16. I get trhis. Now trhat I', up here full time my time in the woods has gone way up. With that sightings of Trophy deer go up also. We took two mature Doe at Bow and 1 second day of gun. In the last two years I passed so many buck deer that I might not of if "time" was not in the equation.
  17. I still have 4 cameras out cant wait to check. That is some nice deer right there. be spectacular next year. We have a couple of big ones that made it just hope they are on camera. Would love to see the one my neighbor and I wounded.
  18. Just got the text from the local guys that they will start hunting tomorrow with dogs for Coyotes. Hope they do well this year. All the neighbors signed on to let them hunt our properties. I'll let you know how they do!
  19. I can see this happening for sure. No more trips to PA or Maryland and bring back ammo. This is NY we are talking about it will happen. Sad stuff right there.
  20. So when I was at the processor we were talking about the second rut. He said the yearling Does 7 months old will be bred in December/January. This true? Just read this very interesting about weight. https://deerassociation.com/doe-fawns-breed-good-sign/
