Live From The Woods 2023-2024 Edition

I would even be happy with his little cousin. Like a knucklehead I volunteered to do a last minute 2 week training for our hospital to be able to officially train other staff. Screws up two weeks of my bow season. Hopefully I will make the best of the little time I’ll have during bow and make it up during firearm season. No more volunteering for me after this. Time to let the younger folks do it. -

Back in the saddle again. Crunchy crunchy crunchy leaves. Even the chipmunks may sound like a deer this afternoon. Lol Other than a deer I listened to trying to wind me for about 15 minutes straight at around 10:30, nothing else this morning. Im thinking it must have been a doe because I’ve never had a buck hang around that long blowing. -

7m is Cool, overcast, no wind, and so far nothing moving except birds and squirrels. They must have pooped themselves out last night running around. -

Very long hours at work this week. Glad it’s over. Time for coffee and tree sitting. Deer were all over the roads chasing last night on my way home in the dark. Had a couple close calls. Should be an active morning. Congrats to those who were successful this week! And good luck to those going today! -

Gun confiscation is the plan

One only need look at what is happening in Israel to understand why law abiding citizens here be allowed, in fact encouraged to be well armed, and prepared to protect their families, neighbors, and maybe even the Country itself. Think it can't happen here? Guess again! With the millions of illegals flooding into this country, don't bet the farm or your family's life on it. -

So how careful are you storing hunting clothes
New York Hillbilly replied to luberhill's topic in Deer Hunting
Same here. Wife washed everything in Tide and been hanging for about two weeks on back porch in the breeze. Had does all around me this morning and a couple yesterday. We used to laugh years ago, when I got a couple really nice bucks on evening hunts after hanging out for lunch at my buddy Mario’s pizza place in Oriskany Falls. I used to tell him I had to get the smell of his pizza sauce on me to get the deer to come to me. Lol -

Early on I was a fanatic. Used to keep the few hunting clothes I owned in garbage bags filled with apples and leaves from the trees I used to sit under, hunting from the ground. As time went on and I took to the trees I get a lot more relaxed about it. Still hang my clothes on the open back porch, and watch the wind. -

Clean miss on a fat doe about half hour ago. Had just squeezed the orange rubber pig a few times quiet and in cam a tiny fawn with no spots, a full size doe and a bigger doe. They were in same trail all facing me under ten yards from my stand. The fawn was nuzzling the one doe, and the doe grooming her. So I figured that was her momma. The bigger doe browsed about a few yards ahead. When they were all blocked from my view I went to draw the bow and could not get it back the first try. I have two plates and 13 screws in my left wrist after falling off a ladder a few years ago. It cause a lot of weakness in that wrist and sharp pain when I draw back. My second attempt to draw was a success and then I had to hold full draw for a very long time until the big doe cleared some trees. It actually was not bad because I rested the bow at full draw against my leg to steady it. Finally she gave me a great quartering away shot and I took my time to try and either slip it behind her leg and into the heart or have it miss if need be under her. I can live with a miss but not feeding the coyotes up here. (Had one go by me this morning limping) When I shot I was pretty sure it was a pass through and I had her. She flinched, acted startled, then bolt a few yards and stopped I thought she was going to tip over in front of me. The other deer just stood and watched, then one walked over and sniffed the arrow sticking out of the ground. I took a bunch of pictures of them and a little video too after shooting. Eventually they all wandered off so I quietly got down and went to my arrow. As it turned out it was a clean miss just under her. The one thing I did learn though is I miss judged the distance. I only use one pin and practice only out to around 20 yards and try to limit myself to that. She was actually closer to 30. Deer are moving a lot this morning. As I’m typing this, 4 more does just came down the hill about 60 yards up hill from me. I guess I’ll stay out here a while longer today. I just might get a second chance. -

Remember their mantra. You will own nothing but will be happy ! -
Boy oh boy does this one hit home for me. My 2016 Ram is a PIA changing bulbs. The first time I faced it I thought I was gonna have to hand in my man card! Luckily, I was successful in changing the bulb, and retained my dignity.

That's a sweet looking reel! I love the old stuff too. Catching even the smallest fish, I think will feel extra special because of the connection to past memories. Just like taking a deer with a bow or firearm from our days past, or left to us by someone important to us. Hope you land a nice one!

Good luck! Looking forward to being able to take my grandson, and finally have a hunting partner again. -
I rarely have internet connection when I’m on stand, but when I do I like to share on the Live From the woods thread. Even if it is only two does. I just thought people were like me when it comes to getting excited over what’s going on out there. With me still working at my age full time in the medical field, I like the read about what people are seeing in the field when I’m not able to be there myself. Deer, squirrels or what ever, I picture in my mind what it feels like to be there myself. oh…. Now I need to get back to work and see patients. Glad I was able to see the successful squirrel pic during my lunch break. My turn tomorrow!

Sweet ride! I sold my Springer Softail many years ago because I never had time, and my kids were young and I worried about them being without me if something happened. Like you though, been thinking about it a lot lately. Safe travels! -

Fawn losing her spots and her momma just trotted pst me at five yards. Her mouth open and grunting as she went past. Momma stopped perfect broadside then walked past into the bushes. The leaves crunching as they came from behind me really got the ticker going. Lol -

Got home from work, wolfed down an omelette made from our chickens eggs and veggies from our garden. Now sitting for the last of the evening in my pine tree stand. Not so much interested in shooting a deer in this heat than I am getting a short break from the world’s craziness. My therapy time!
