  1. Its safe for sure. I put the stand back up and socked down the platform straps good with only one ladder section, promised the wife I wouldn't climb anymore. Its rock solid, the seat is comfortable. I'll tell you one other thing to be ready for. When you open the zipper on the camo and go in under the rail, you will naturally reach out and grab the seat to pull yourself in..that seat is going to swivel. First time I did it I did an Oh SH*T!!!Same thing getting out. Take your time, use good hand-holds and a harness, you'll be fine.
  2. Another 11 lbs of corned beef today for those that missed St Paddy's Day
  3. My Hawthorns and forsythia were delivered and I potted them for now.
  4. P.S. the 16 foot height and 95lb weight, it took 3 guys and a small block & tackle to get it up. The leverage you fight with the platform is big. If you look at the pictures, you can see where the straps to the ladder are positioned, too low. Do yourself a favor and add another strap from the ladder to the tree up higher to avoid the middle section buckling.
  5. Paula, I saw your other post on stands. I have the Big Game Infinity, in fact its the one that I fell from. There is lots of room, real good stand, in fact I reused the platform and two ladder sections after the center one bent. Word to the wise, the way the straps attach to the ladder creates a weak spot mid-ladder after you detach from the tree and come down. Take a length of rope and loop it around the tree at the platform before you detach and as you come down keep tension on it so the platform doesn't come away from the tree. I tried a diffferent method and it didn't work. As far as parts, mine was missing a bolt and they sent me an entire bag of nuts, bolts and those clip pins. They are good to deal with and I have not issues with the stand even after taking the express elevator down.
  6. Just got back from Brooklyn, one long day and night. Nephew's fire company pumper stopped by in turnout gear and let all the wee ones climb in the cab. Thrills for the kids. My grand daughter got to say Hi to the captain on the radio. Best St Pats Day in a while, the entire clan reunion. God bless all here.
  7. Tale from the club, muzzleloader. And this is true, deer suicide by hunter. Guys went up and posted in about a 200 yard area. One had his 7 y/o grandson, another had an ATV, the third is one his own. The third guy sees a doe but hadn't charged the rifle correctly and the cap went off. Deer stayed put. Guy with the ATV calls no response, waits a while and gets on the ATv and goes to the shot. He gets there and the deer is still there. Guy with his grandson walks up and the guy on the ATV points out the deer. 1st guy is still trying to reload. Gramps puts the gun up but all he has is a hind quarter shot, then the deer looks back and he takes it with a neck shot. How you figure that, I think about doing anything and deer run, these guys have a parade and the deer stands there.
  8. Small is better than none. Check around online and find some plants that will suit your sun and soil. We have three spots from like an acre and a half down to 1/4 acre. Apples in one but they haven't taken well, I'm putting in hawthorn this year and the large plot is half rye/clover and half turnip. They ate all teh turnip this winter
  9. Happy Saint Patrick's Day. Step dancing is a big thing here in Islip. And pipers. My granddaughter and nephews Enjoy the day
  10. My wife cooked an 11-pounder yesterday and three heads of cabbage. Going to Brooklyn today where her sister and s-in-law did another 11 or 12 pounds and 25-pounds of potatoes. All the Fenians are meeting today. 26+6=1
  11. Coming down from upstate, meant to post this before, troopers out in force all thru Sullivan County. None in Orange. Trail cam went out
  12. I think raccoons are cool. Too bad they make lousy pets, they'd be fun to play with
  13. Well back from the greta north woods, north of here anyway. Nothing exciting, target shoot, put up a ladder stand. Tons of old coyote tracks, some nice deer and turkles. Tried calling, no reponse. 14 degrees and 3 inches of snow Saturday morning, a lot nicer today. Fur, Fin and Feather has a 1963 Winchester 94 for sale good condition, not high on the price at all if anyone is looking. He also had a 99 Savage take down, oldddddd in 22 but it had a hold on it from someone interested.
  14. Going up to the club in 3a this weekend. Some targets Sat morn, putting up a treestand in teh afternoon, litttle yote calling in the late afternoon. More of the same Sunday. Setting this up only 5' high in an underhunted spot down low thick in the low hemlocks along an old overgrown logging road. Was a stand there 30 years ago and no one ever goes there. My old fixed wood stand was uphill about 100 yards so i know deer move out of this cover and my fathers shack was near it & he took plenty of deer from that.

  18. There's a book on this called Outlaw Gunners. About the poachers after it was outlawed and the F&G guys chasing them in the Chesapeake. Besides ducks, geese and swans, there was a big market for song birds too. They all went to the hotels in NYC during the 1800's. Some of the guns were 6 & 8 gauge with multiple barrels set like a fan shape to take out entire rafts of birds at night.
