Robert Frost, the original tresspasser: Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow.

I work with a guy who gets to his stand at 4:30 in the morning. That's way over-kill
-
Canuck used to make 32 rinfire. My brother has one. I don't know if they are around anymore but you may be able to Google and find some.

I have a bunch of different Dexter Russell's and Russell Internationals and an antique cleaver.

My brother head shot a snoeshoe rabbit with a 300 Savage once. When he picked it up, the eyes were hanging on the end of the nerves and there wasn't anything else left of the head. -
Always see some good chit at the range. One guy was shooting a Sharps long target rifle in 45-70. Really cool looking gun. Another guy had a Moisin-Nagant that he just bought in a local shop for $200.00 Thing was nice condition, he said the shop had a few more of them. Annnddd you also see some crap. Wood from my 1955 Savage Model 99 made the rest of the stocks look like they came from Home Depot.

another decent thread opened the portal to the other dimension-Bizzarro-World. Land of the lost threads. If a deer is headshot in the woods and nobody finds it, is it really dead?

I don't understand the thought process. No one every touched another person's stuff. Lately I hear people taking guy's surf bags right off the beach while the guy is casting too. It wouldn't surprise me to have someone bring a chainsaw or bolt cutters to take my stand or camera

better dump your ammo stockpile

Has anyone read anything from the NRA regarding this? I'm a member, a disallusioned member, who watched Lindsay put thru the NYC long gun registration with zero NRA opposition. And allowed Gillibrand to be elected senator without NRA opposition. Now the Safe Act. NRA has written off New York State in my opinion. -
I bought a steel lock box that lags into the tree and a cable came with it. So the camera is bolted inside the box, the box is lagged into a tree and locked with a steel cable and lock as belts and suspenders. I'll bet dollars to douts the whole Kit & Kaboodle gets taken next year. And now I've also cable locked my stands

Count me in, I go up to my brother's in Erie Cty to see my brother and spend some time with them. My other brothers think I'm nuts to drive 7 1/2 hours to hunt when I have a club 3 hours away. I've had years where I just watch the deer and let them pass. My brother gets a license every year and lets them walk by. This year he let a 4,6 and something bigger plus some does just walk by. I could go up muzzleloader but my chest freezer croaked and I'm not going to shoot something that I can't keep and eat. So be it. I'm just happy to be able to do this.
-
If they do away with DECALS and don't replace it I'm screwed. All the shops and town halls down here have done away with issuing licenses. Its only at Dick's and Sports Authority..when they have tags...when the license issuer is there...when they feel like it.
-
I went on DEC to see if they have update the table of licenses issued, they haven't for years. The numbers were tailing off and from what I hear a lot of people boycotted NY this year due to the Safe Act and went to Pa. I was hoping they at least brought the table up to 2012

My club is in 3A. AR has done nothing there. In fact we stopped doe shooting 5 years before they stopped issuing doe permits for 3A. We are seeing gack year after year. This year I got a ratty 5-pt and 1 doe on a trail cam over three months. And this is next to a food plt. Opening week saw a spike, 4-pt, 6-pt that isn't legal and a few does. The lady at Fur Fin and Feather said there is a genetic problem that the bucks aren't growing brow tines, so what should be a 6-pt is just a very high and wide 4-pt. Before AR we shot two of those, beautiful spread and long tines but 4-pts. I don't know if it's poaching or the lack of farming but like the others said 3A is not recovering.

There is/was a restaurant out on teh east end of Long Island that srved game all the time. Deer, buffalo, boar, elk, pheasant all kinds of tasty things, all farm raised. TexMex place in Merrick served buff too.

Dances, that's good info. My 90gr is volume. Bubba I went to the Powerbelts because my buffalo bullets, hollow tips, flattened out like a quarter and I didn't care for that. They did kill but, I just didn't like the way they ended up. I'll test the Powerbelts in some wet phone books and see how they hold together. I may try the T/C solids again too
-
I just sighted my gun in for 223 gr 50 cal Powerbelts. Or not sighted in. I tried them during the summer with 75 gr of Pyrodex and they hit left and a little low. My brother said before you change the sights go to 90gr. I tried that yesterday, 90 is my normal roundball load, they were right on. A little high at 50 yards which is fine with me. This is with iron sights on a T/C Hawken. They load like a dream compared to Hornandy and Great Plains Buffalo bullets.

Will some mod shoot a flare at these guys before they ruin yet another good thread with their schoolyard BS.

Just got back from 9H, weather sucked. Saw 8 deer in 3 days, only buck was a spike. 2 buck tags, 4 doe tags ad nothing to show for it. Deer just were'nt moving
-
You can get into all sorts of what ifs when you start with different tags for shooting AR or 3". It opens a can of worms. Like why should bowhunters shoot does on their regular tag. Have compound tags buck only and either sex tags for recurve and long bow. Same for muzzleloader, have buck tags for modern muzzleloaders and either sex for round ball reproduction iron sight guns. The hunting implements keep evolving and the licenses are still in the 1960's.

Nothing to stop you from sitting down with your kid and sliding the rifle onto his lap. My father did that when I was 12, 48 years ago.

Damn, just got back on. Getting home too late from work, then Skype my grand-daughter in Florida so no time to see this. You guys need to play better in the sandbox.

DEC is back to mulling the AR question. Do you like AR or do you think it is better to let hunters decide. This goes back to the old discussion: a deer that only has spikes in its first year will never grow a trophy set of antlers so do we inprove the gene pool by killing those spikes or do we have AR and kill off the trophy gene animals and further dilute the gene pool by saving the spikes? I'm not taking sides, I'm reporting what is being discussed at DEC.
