Took the stick and string out for a sit this mornin...seen zero...got about 6 hunts left in NY for 2013 before I turn my attention to NJ over Xmas. Then it's Dmfa for January and NJ for February...feels like mid season! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wasn't able to hunt this weekend because my wife was still getting over a bad cold. I'm heading out tomorrow am and Wednesday am and pm then a couple more times this weekend. I'm on a mission for my first ny late season bow harvest. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

+1 on the entire post.I also have the open shot, have had it 5 seasons, love it for all of the reasons mentioned above, also dislike the bulk for transport. I also would get a LW after my long list of other sweet hunting gear if I win the lottery, but for economy and functionality summit open shot is nice. I added grip tape to my platform cause I found it slick in adverse conditions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2013 HNY Gun Hunting Harvest Thread
Meat Manager replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
After a fruitful bow season I had a relatively good gun season. 11/16 AM: 11/25 PM: 12/02 AM: With my 4 archery harvests 2013 provided a personal best of 7 harvested deer, including a mature archery buck. I still have my reg tag to use on either sex for the late bow season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Crazy...I swear I had a bald buck under my stand with his nose in my bag of scents this past Wednesday morning. When I saw the body in the distance I swore it was a buck, but as it approached my tree I saw it was bald... It was 6:45 am and pretty dark so I could only see no antlers, I did not make out shed wounds, but the deer was not acting like a doe. Others have already found shed antlers this season. I feel your pain...I've been a chic magnet all year...saw 2 bucks this season, harvested one, the other was in my backyard.Do you love the iwom? Looking into those and the HBS. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Got a lil snow here in 7j, mms trail cam pics show about the same dusting in 7f. I decided to stay in and wait for the solunar peak this pm...6 of my 7 harvests this season took place in a major solunar period...this evening sunset coincides with moon overhead. Good luck everyone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just had this large button right under my pine tree stand eating some of the last apples...The fawns are really healthy this year. I was in the kitchen: Hope to see some antlers tomorrow...tho I may go to Tompkins for the am. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm using my bow because I've harvested quite a few deer this season and 2 of my 3 gun harvests this season were inside bow range, as have most of my sightings. My advice is to hunt close to high protein food sources if possible...corn, acorns, etc. http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?/topic/20465-Bow-or-Smokepole Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Every now and then the west wind kicks in and prevails over the south and I can feel the edge of the new cold front. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It may be a hemal node...where on the deer was it...shoulder, loins, straps ? http://www.michigan.gov/mobi/dnr/0,,7-153-10363_10856_10905-32311--,00.html I don't think it is EHD unless he noticed other symptoms: http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/39767.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Curiosity made me check one of these shoulders...shot this doe 11/25...shoulder has been hanging since: The filet knife is pointing to the fat sliver where the pre-scapular lymph node resides: This node is not nearly as pink as my fresh pic from October, but it is also no where near as black as your friends. What's it gonna be for you guys in SZ late season? I'm 4/5 with my new bow madness xs this year, the loss coming with a wounded doe last day of early archery. Since I've harvested quite a few deer this season my choice seems clear...smoke pole stays in the locker til next year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sitting in my pine out back for the first hour...windy and warm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This is a healthy fresh node from one of my harvest in October that I had to process right away because of warm conditions: I have a set of shoulders that's been hanging 8 days...I will check the nodes to see if they darkened when I butcher them tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That is a pre scapular lymph node if he found it in the sliver of fat right behind the shoulder, definitely a lymph node...not sure why they are discolored, how long had the deer hung? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wonder if the lonely baldy that walked right up to my bag of scents at the base of my tree at 6:45am this morning was a naked buck? It sure wasn't acting like a doe. Long body like a 1.5-2.5 buck....could have been a giant button I guess, but I was really looking for bone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
