  1. I agree ants and feel the same way about him - he is a little crazy and out there but when he debates against any anti gun / anti hunting crowds he is very persuasive.
  2. Interesting. Even though based on my understanding of the Florida law I was inclined to agree with the jury's decision. What sickens me is the publicity the case got to start with by the media and then how the media covered the entertainment industry's response. Scary times we live in ...
  3. What a joke!! - I don't even care if I win but are you telling me that he has not had 30 minutes to finish the contest he put up in the last 45 days? I'll let you in on a little secret - everyone gets busy but most still finish what they start, especially those who start an online contest. It is called integrity. I'll even give whoever it is the benefit of the doubt and god forbid something tragic happened - at least provide a response.
  4. Just curious if this was ever completed ... it has been awhile and don't remember seeing anything on it.
  5. Watched this show tonight ... it was a good show especially to show off some remarkable bucks. Clearly it was filmed in private areas with little to no hunting pressure but it was fun to watch a show on whitetails - besides the typical hunting shows. I actually miss the good ole fashion documentaries on North American Game. They seem to be a rarity these days. There are so many interesting studies they could do right here at home. I think you learn more watching these shows than 99% of the hunting shows. It seems the only one I get anything out of (and as a bow tech guy it pains me to say it) is Mathews Dominant Bucks. The rest is marketing and high fiving parties. I don't learn much but heartland bowhunters is a bit of fresh air compared to the other ones. And of course Shockey's adventures with his father and father in law for pure entertainment value. I remember as a kid on Saturday Mornigns they use to have documentaries on whitetails, bears, mountain lions, elk and Mule deer. I use to love watching them.
  6. Yeah - I just watched it - it was a good show. I would like to get some turkeys to follow me around during deer season. I thought that the "re-creation" went quite well for the CGI graphics were good ... Good show though I'd recommend it if for no other reason it clearly shows calling in a turkey is blind luck or someone with some real knowledge.
  7. Congrats - great season and interesting read. Nice pictures too.
  8. Fishhunttrapper really put us all to shame - 2 nice toms in like 3 days and both early in the morning!!! That is quite an accomplishment.
  9. LOL - well at least I wasn't the only one who messed it up. Ha!! It looks like for most folks 2 birds puts you up there. Don't feel bad though ... the other contest i am in my second bird isn't in the top 10. My first one is and offciial scoring is this week - so we will see - that one is the prize though Close to $2K in cash.
  10. Cool - we cooked them up tonight and fo r whatever reason they did not taste as good as the ones last ear. Still new to this - does the flavor change at all? I am starting to think I ate something poisonous Ha!!
  11. Thanks everyone. Score wise 25 is generous - he benefited a point due to the rounding rules - but I won't complain!!
  12. Yes definitly late - found my first ones this morning ... finally!! About 8 good ones so far.
  13. There were 4 birds in this area all season and I actually missed the big one earlier this year. I think this was the second best bird in the bunch and it was getting down there for redemption. He was in a field in full strut with 6 hens. I was able sneak in and get 70 yards away. The hens started to cackle and fight so I made a couple of clucks while they were fighting. The next thing I know as I peeked above the tall grass was a hen 15 yards in front of me. She proceeded to walk 3 yards in front of me and then passed by. Five other sets of turkey eyes passed by anywhere from 5-10 yards away from me while a flurry of mosquitos buzzed by head. Then I looked up and another bird walked passed my shooting window. I realized that was the Tom and everything was almost for nothing because that was the only shot I had. Fortunately he made the mistake of coming back through to make the mosquito bites all worth it. I was able to click the safety off and raise my gun and dropped him at 10 yards. He is not a huge bird, but he has very sharp spurs, 1 1/8th inch spurs, and a 9.5" beard.
  14. I ended up getting a nice Tom but am having trouble uploading the pictures. Maybe it is a function of sleep deprivation but I'll try again this afternoon.
  15. Awesome - I have not been able to find one yet - putting a lot of miles chasing turkeys and looking for mushrooms. I am up by the Wayne County/Rochester area - where are you in the state - just wondering if they are late this year. Last year I found the majority the first week in May. Congrats - those are good size ones.
  16. I had been chasing this bird for a couple of years now. I got his brother who was the sub-ordinate bird 2 springs ago who had an 11 inch beard and 1 1/4" spurs. This bird was the dominat bird and has been. I shot him at 6:00AM on Friday 5/10. He has a 10 inch beard and 1 and 3/8 inch spurs - he is a 4 or 5 year old. Nice daggers - real pointy. He came in gobbling and strutting all the way ... Great hunt.
  17. Thanks for the update - I haven't seen any yet and was wondering.
  18. This story starts back in January of 2011. After a terrible 2010 season and being utterly frustrated I started scouting early and in January of 2011 I ended getting an interesting trail cam picture of a buck that made it through the 2010 hunting season. A 3.5 year old drop tine. Never found his sheds, never saw him again - literally a ghost - and after getting a whopper in 2011 he kind of fell of the radar screen. Well in 2012 life got turned upside down - sold our house started building a new one and scouting went out the window, early season was rough and the frustration on all fronts came crashing down. I did get some good trail cam pics of some shooters to make it just interesting enough to still get excited when I did manage to get out. Nonetheless I tried to plan the first week in November to be able to hunt. One night on the way home after trying to help a buddies daughter recover a deer she shot, I was caught completely flat footed with my jaw on the ground. Low and behold DROPTINE, who was now 2 years older, was standing 10 yards from my truck with a doe. Talk about impressive, massive body, huge mass, outrageous brow tines, and not one but two drop tines - one was 15 inches back at a 45 degree angle and another was 6 inches on the same side. Awesome buck!! That was it - hell or high water that was the only buck I was going to chase for the rest of bow season. I was on him for 4 days straight - sometimes within 100 yards of his bed - one morning I drew I him but didn't have the shot - I watched him mount a doe - ward off a 130 class 8 pt which I ended up letting walk by with the hopes he followed. Then, POOF - he was gone. About 3-4 days later I picked up what i thought was his track so I moved. I saw a couple of other good bucks and on the last night of bow season - there he was - 120 yards away checking me out and I watched as he walked off. I didn't hunt much during gun season but never laid an eye on him. On the last weekend of the season I ended up shooting 120-125 inch buck and called it a season. No one has heard or seen him since - so here is to hoping he celebrates his 6 year birthday and shows up again for another round. The good news is the house is done - so let the scouting commence and the games begin!!
