  1. I agree with Nicksteroni, they will be there no matter what - no need to get your panties in a bunch. They still need to eat, drink (very little) and they sleep in favored roosting trees. It's not like they vanish and crawl in a whole. Breeding activity changes, their responses to calls change but they are still there so HUNT them.
  2. Haven't got into this one yet although I hear good things about it. Not to sabotage the thread but I am huge fan of Spartacus. Also the Walking Dead is pretty cool - nice buck in one of the seasons. Then there was 24 and Jericho both great as well. I won't lie - the wife is into Vampire diaries and I don't often like to admit it, but it is a good show with nice scenery.
  3. I agree with Steve B - 1/2 day maybe a day depending on how many guys you went with. Not really "hunting" - more like a fun grocery shopping experience. I have been on a couple: - My first "Hunt" with my father = Tioga Perserve in PA. Best looking boars - nice tusks - big boars - good hunting expereince for what it is at least - meat was poor. - Good deal/meat hunt w/ some friends = Creekside Whitetails south of Buffalo NY. Boars were ok - hunt experience was average at best but the meat was outstanding - literally I would go again probably just for the meat - they offer a smokehouse butcher cut or they did it has been awhile. - Bachelor Party = Forgot the name but it is Reneselleuar Falls NY. Ok Hunt , OK Boars, OK Meat. There is also one in Homer NY - Cold Brook Hunts I think. Hope this helps. Mike
  4. I live in Williamson too. Jeff does great work, he takes a bit long. Just to ease your mind I dropped a turkey off there a few weeks back and he was talking about getting a new set-up for his internet and phone. I am sur eit is fine and I'll stopp by too and check in on him.
  5. Hi Tor, Italy Hill, Letchworth are all good options. If you live down there and plan on hunting a lot a lease in that area could be a great investment depending on your hunting goals. There is also some state land in prattsburg that is good hunting. I think no matter where you end up opening day of shotgun is a fiasco but some folks think that is part of the nostalgia of Opening Day as long as safety is first. There is a lot of state land and the finger lakes region is huge. I wouldn't rule out private land by knocking on some doors - you never know. I remember my first few years hunting my father taking me to Bully Hill, it always seemed like quite the adventure - I think the biggest buck i ever saw was a 4 point but my father saw a couple big ones and got one nice one hunting down there. The memories were priceless though - lots of fun.

    172 buck

    agreed - a super buck.
  7. On our "Florida" Wednesday this week they were everywhere. Tomorrow would be a good day to scout them out - maybe even here some gobbles. The only problem is by the time our season opens the birds you see now will be in a different area by then.

    172 buck

Here are soem pics of that buck that started the thread. I have heard it scored 172 a couple times now.
  9. Hey guys, I have done many of these - they are pretty easy to do. In fact I thought have doing them myself. I have read a ton on different methods but the cheapest and easiest by far is the "lazy" way. Take the hide and as much meat as possible - you don't have to go crazy, just get the bottom jaw off. Then get a 5 gallon bucket, fill it with water and let it soak for 6-7 weeks changign the water 3-4 times. The emat will all fall of. Then wire it somewhere high enough where it get ssome nice summer sun but where animals can't get it for another 2 weeks. I spary clorox clean-up on mine and they whiten up nice without bone decaying. The first one i did was probably in 2002 and it still is in mint shape. It beats boiling and the bug method and it will save you some cash. Anyone who lives in the rochester area I would be happy to show or even do with you - I have one to do myself this year. i'll start at the end of turkey season or just after turkey season. They look much nicer than just a skull cap.

    10 point

    Congrats - nice mount.
  11. Very nice - looks like you are on to one heck of a hit list.
  12. That first one is a nice buck and moving during daylight hours - looks like he is fleeing the scene, must have been spooked.
  13. That is an impressive collection of sheds. Where do you focus your effforts? Hedgerows, fields, orchards, heavily used deer runs, bedding areas .... all of the above!!!
  14. Congrats everyone - I agree w/ NY antler, glad I found this site.

    Ouch

There was another post flying around where a large buck on trail cam was attacked by some coyotes. I think every situation is a little different as I have aso seen deer avoid coyotes quite easily.
