It's called franchise highways, and in NY, it's very common. AAA won't deny you service, but they are by law not allowed to service your vehicle on roadways that are franchised. They will, however, reimburse you the expense of a tow that you incurred due to this situation. AAA is pretty good at taking care of their members but they do have their limitations. I'm relatively new to reloading, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I also have no experience in elk hunting, so take that with a grain of salt as well. What I do know is that you'll want a bullet that will hold together more on elk, than on whitetail. In that sense, a partition like Pygmy recommended for elk, and an expanding bullet on whitetail. The goal is to expend as much energy IN the animal as possible, and still leaving a nice sized exit hole for a trail. I believe partitioned bullets won't give you maximum energy expenditure on whitetail. There's better bullets for that. Accuracy - if you are satisfied with the accuracy of the fusion rounds, you can chrono the fusions and then use a smiliar weight bullet and work up a load to similar MV and accuracy should be similar. Powder - pick the powder based on the weight of the bullet. Heavier the bullet, slower the powder generally. And if hunting in extreme temps, use an extruded powder that is more stable in extreme temps. Brass, primers - having the same brand, same lot of brass is a good start to having an accurate load. Otherwise, you can weigh each case and sort them that way by brand. I wouldn't mix brands unless I had to. Pick up a box of your favorite primer based on the bullet and powder you'll be using, sometimes the load may require magnum primers for a non-mag cartridge. But keep it consistent. When you change primers, you'll need to work up the load again. MV - muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficient is important in how the bullet ultimately performs at terminal. MV and mass of the bullet will determine the momentum the bullet has and it's KE out of the muzzle. The BC and distance will determine the terminal energy and expansion. Each bullet type will have different expansion characteristics at different terminal velocities. Nosler is very good at demonstrating different expansion at different velocities. What part of dragging out a deer is considered farming? Was it taken with a nuisance permit? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

What if they crawl up the hang rope? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

I believe the level of precision and accuracy desired is relative to the individual shooter. If you can hit your mark every time, yes, terminal performance is desirable, but only after the shooter have met his accuracy requirements of hitting his target. One can't determine acceptable accuracy without setting limits such as distance and target size. So back to the OP in terms of distance, 200 yards and beyond are a possibility on deer sized game. While at this distance, almost any bullet should perform within limits on a broadside double lung target, the issue for accuracy begins when he's not presented with a broadside, but with a quartering or frontal shot. Bottom line is there's no one bullet that does it all, but by identifying your limitations, one can find a suitable bullet for their needs. Was the buck like this one? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems -
Distance, game, and group size would determine the ammo you should use. Long range ammo would benefit from using boat tails. Larger game animals would benefit from bonded or partitioned style bullets. If you're mainly after whitetail and generally double lung, a bonded or partitioned bullet is not necessary, or desired. You'll probably want something with a bit more expansion. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

Me either. Since I've never had to purchase an early season or late season privileges, I'm not 100% sure myself. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
-
So there's actually two separate late season privileges? Each costing $10 per privilege? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
-
My understanding of the SZ licenses are that there are early season(bow) privilege, which comes with an either sex tag, then the regular season license, which comes with a buck tag, and then there's the late season privilege(ML/bow) which comes with its own tag as well.
