  1. I've been wanting to get into a longbow, but just for target until i felt i was proficient enough to use hunting.
  2. you bought a crossbow so you could use it during archery season. I highly doubt you use a crossbow during regular season when muzzle, shotty or rifle is permitted
  3. funny i wasn't implying you in general but i guess that hit home.
  4. well hopefully sportsman will follow the laws, i don't consider those that hunt out of season or those who hunt illegally sportsman, as for the individual whom is 70+ yrs old and has a hard time pulling a bow he should be allowed to use a crossbow, along with legitimate disabled individuals. just like you can have ATV access if needed. i just think the guys who just want to use Xbows because its an obvious advantage should be avoided, ya know those whom only hunt with guides, those who only go on guaranteed hunts ect... those who avoid challenges.
  5. maybe time will change, who knows but as of right now, this coming year... I guess have fun in Conn. and PA
  6. May 22nd? i'm gonna go out on a limb and say many people were.... working
  7. time will tell, but for now Crossbow HuntingPlease note: the law allowing use of crossbows expired on December 31, 2012. Crossbows may no longer be used for hunting in New York.
  8. you cant just mark your string so you lock it into the latch at the same point? or use a d-loop? fact remains you have no issue regarding (drawing on a deer) movement, letting down if that deer stays behind the tree to long ect... there is no comparison between a crossbow and a compound other than they both have strings and limbs, if NYS wants xbow hunters make it another season, if you like the challenge use it during the rifle season. it has no place during the regular bow season (unless you are handicapped) legit handicapped... you cannot convince me that a xbow that you can set at the house, walk into the woods, use a rest, use a scope ect... in anyway shape or form compares to a compound bow
  9. Any reason you don't just shoot a bow?
  10. compound bows are less accurate than X bows because of the user's ability to hold a string back you don't need any skill to hold the string on a Xbow, its like Ron Popeils SET iT and FORGET IT
  11. funny but i have heard putting a large leaf of iceberg lettuce under your hat works too
  12. Using scents (doe n heat ect...) doesn't that go against playing the wind? if you sent up down wind of an area you think the deer will be traveling from the doe n heat would only be working by attracting deer from downwind, no?
  13. however there are some fantastic public properties on long island
  14. Tough to get permission for the island, heck there are some properties guys pay $5,000 for exclusive privilages
  15. Agreed plenty of threads regarding xbows, IMHO I like even how PA differentiates seasons based on flintlock and muzzleloaders, same should be said for the ease of xbows compared to compounds bows and even traditional bows, a lock and load with a scope, I wouldn't consider "bowhunting" the the only thing that makes that any more difficult than a rifle is what? A twig deflection?
  16. I may be part of the minority but I hope nys does not follow suit, I'm all for hunters using xbows during rifle/regular season but personally I thing it gives an significant and unacceptable advantage during bow season. Imho
  17. I'm unfamiliar with Conn. Regulations is crossbow only for disabled individuals?
  18. Nice amount of tags ct allows, long island, NY by example allows a total of 3 bucks and unlimited does, you can shoot 20 does on long island if you find that necessary, the rules may have changed but in years past if you shot a doe and used your does tag your were given an either sex tag, once you shot a buck that tag was essentially done. This year I think they changed it to only recieving another doe tag My buddys best year has been 13 permitted deer on long island during bow season
  19. Nothing wrong with xbows during rifle or shotgun season, during bow season doesn't make sense unless you have a disability that doesn't allow you to draw 40lbs.
  20. places like that deer tend to eat the rhododendrons and can often be found funneling between the swing sets and hot tubs, no need for scent control they are practically pets in lots of areas
  21. Ridge tops, Saddles, Logging roads, where pines meet oaks, areas of hillside briars, breaks in stone walls, & field corners just before dusk I have hunted Deleware county for the past 16 years, (town of Franklin) these are areas i commonly see deer. however i would not consider deleware county as BIG woods, bigger than suburban areas yes but i consider ADK big woods, world of difference between the 2
