Good stuff, Mike....Thanks! There is yet another downside to the diversion of PR/DJ funds: Such could, in relatively short time, negatively impact the quality of hunting and fishing in NYS. That, in turn, could result in a decrease in license sales. Since the amount of money we get from the Federal Fish & Wildlife Restoration Fund(s) is tied to numbers of licenses sold....Less licenses means less money if/and when the money flow is restored. Coupla notes: The Pittman-Robertson Act was passed in 1937...on the heels of the first North American Wildlife Conference of 1936. Sportsmen stepped forward and suggested that they be taxed in some way to support wildlife resources...hence the excise taxes on sporting arms and ammo that ensued. Fishermen acted similarly in 1950 (circa) to get the Dingell-Johnson Act passed. There is no question that hunters and fishermen have been the greatest contributors to resource conservation in America. (It really frosts me to meet cross country skiers using roads and trails in our local WMA as I walk along with my shotgun over my shoulder...and the skiers give me dirty looks, because I hunt. Mostly, I keep my mouth shut...Sometimes, I "educate them!") Second note: The PR/DJ grants have, since their inception, funded state conservation efforts on a 75:25 (Fed:State) cost sharing basis....far superior to most Fed. cost sharing grant programs. Take a bow, hunters and fishermen: You have (and will) carry our valuable resources on your broad backs!

Best to plant chicory next to your mailbox: Pretty blue-eyed Appalachian girl loses her boyfriend, a whiz of a pitcher, to the Major Leagues. He promises to write every day...and does for a couple of weeks. The blue-eyed beauty waits by the mailbox every day as the frequency of letters diminishes gradually and then stops altogether. She still waits...greets the mailman every day with an increasingly sad look on her beautiful face. When she fails to show up one day, the mailman becomes concerned...and after four such days, inquires of her mother if anything is wrong. "She's sick" said her mother, "Won't eat...won't get out of bed!" Sometime, late that winter, that pretty blue-eyed Applachian girl died....of a broken heart! Late spring/early summer the next year, the mailman discovers some beautiful blue wildflowers growing near the dead girl's mailbox. They remind him of the girl's pretty blue eyes. He is certain they represent the girl's spirit...She's still waiting!! Remember it this way: Blue-eyed Girl Waiting Boy Of Summer Sends No Mail Now Chicory Grows!

Culver Creek...You are a nut case! You cannot argue intelligently, you just attack, however stupidly. Whatever happened to the "pray behind closed doors" stuff. Sheesh....shut up, for GOD's sake! -

Shawn, you are correct: There are those on here who do "jump the gun" in defense of their own personal beliefs which they would have us all subscribe to. To promote their beliefs, they use the "holier than thou" approach: They know God; they know what God intends for us. Any of us who are not receptive are the bad guys. I have long felt that it is not necessary for me to wear my heart...or my politics...or my religion on my sleeve. I need not stand and recite the Pledge to be a real patriot...nor sing the national anthem. Those who wish to do so have my sincere respect...as long as they do not claim superiority over me. America has been moving toward multi-culturalism for years. We Americans are a tolerant people (except for those "holier than thous" that think they know what God wants. Hmmm....have they asked her?). If we did not want to arrive at this point, we should have torn down the Statue of Liberty years ago, and instead erected a "Welcome, Christians only" monument. I am content to live and let live. The hard core right wing Christians are not! They are far from it. It has been the practice of Christians over time to kill all those whom they cannot convert. To read some of the responses here...nothing has changed. -

I agree...no need for the Under God bit. That was inserted well after the fact to try to declare the US more "Godly" as we became more deeply mired in a pissing contest with the Russians. Imagine: Add a stupid phrase and claim superiority over our enemies! -
Just wondering: Can you get 2000 gr. bullets...you know, for varmints?

GREAT info.....Thank you so much! C'mon snow....!!!

Kinda like Humpty Dumpty: "It's only a religion...if I say it is!" Most "religions" could better be defined as cults! -

The right wing faithful followers on here definitely wear panties...lace panties! -
Good point. Shortly after I bought my Remington Mod. 7 CDL, I stocked up on ammo: 3 boxes each of 120 and 140 gr. I have a buddy who reloads. As soon as I have enough empties, he is going to load me some with a 31 gr. bullet he found somewhere. Should be interesting.

Wow....Does your mother know you talk like that? Methinks thou dost protest too much. Methinks also that you and those like you here are probably members of some secret homosexual muslim brotherhood posing as something you are not. I must admit: You represent a genuine threat to this great country; you are scary! -
The .260 Rem. is a great choice for hard-hitting, low recoil, short action whitetail medicine. Some call it the best whitetail load ever!

No...I understand: Anyone who doesn't share your narrow-minded view of the world frightens you. Again, I apologize. -

I do not consider myself a liberal...nor a conservative; Just a free-thinker. If that scares or threatens you...I apologize! -
Note: Remington's current catalog lists the Duplex 4x6 turkey loads...They are still making them.

From another revolution...??? Sounds like some are willing to take up arms to protect themselves from another religion. -

Seriously, now...all you "smoke pole" guys: You would not shoot someone over the removal of a religious mural, would you? -
The old Federal 3" 7 1/2's were also deadly on turkeys. If you see some at a gun show...buy 'em!
-
Sooo TRUE! Thanks for the reminder.
-
True...the Remington Duplex loads can often be found at gun shows. I have always liked the 4x6's for turkeys. Recently found a box of BBx4's...good coyote medicine, I think.

I must admit, Culver, that my wife and I have taken advantage of local charity programs. Over the past several years we have donated hundreds of dollars worth of winter coats for a "Coats For Children" program...hundreds of dollars worth of school supplies for a "Back To School" program...along with hundreds of dollars worth of food and volunteer time at a local food pantry. So, in your righteous ignorance you can call me guilty. Roots of all evil....money and religion!

OMG...As the kids might say, "Gag Me!" Makes one wonder: Was Jesus as mean-spirited, narrow-minded, and bigoted as those who now profess to follow his teachings?
-
Wow...This thread has really run astray: Despite that, I think what we have discovered is that there are those who would take care of their fellow man...and those who would not. Now, of course, the "would nots" would attach conditions such as "I would help those who help themselves" and other such butt-covering hoohah, but the fact is...their hearts are hard...dark, and hard!

What is the best choke for rabbit hunting
Early replied to Dave's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Improved choke for me...#6 shot mostly...#5 when hunting in heavy brush or with the 28 or .410.
