Head shots at 30 yards??? What gun are you using? Scope?
-
I expect the Circuit Judge would do well with .45 Colt loads. Based on my experience with the Taurus Judge, I would suggest that rifled barrels and modern .410 loads using shot cups produce extremely poor patterns...That is, they spray shot. The Judge is, in my opinion, the best handgun choice for home or vehicle defense. I'm pondering on where the Circuit Judge could fit in my arsenal.

What brand is your bolt action shotgun? We have, and shoot regularly, old Mossberg bolt guns in 20 ga., 12 ga., and .410 bore. No problem with recoil in any of them, even when using 3" ammo. To reduce recoil: Add, or replace a recoil pad...Add weight to the gun...Shoot only low base ammo, loaded with small shot

Ted has no class; he hurts us more than he helps us!

Two suggestions re: water added.....Add a tablespoon (maybe two) of vinegar with the water....Or, substitute beer for the water. For me, venison doesn't pull as easily as pork. Either of these suggestions will help.

nyantler, You speak of something of which you obviously have little first hand knowledge. I am a retired teacher. Before that, I worked on a Town Highway Dept. and in the Carpenters' Union. Believe me...teachers do not have it easy. Society, as a whole, expects them to do way more than they should....And, then when things go wrong, whom do they blame....teachers, of course! Think what you want...our government has failed us. The mere fact that those who govern are millionaires, or multi-millionaires...puts them out of touch with us. Do not blame college students...or the less-fortunate who might be on some sort of public assistance....Blame the millionaire politicians who have screwed things up beyond belief. Our government officials are beholden to "Corporate Gods" who have financed their election campaigns, not us! Really....when you come right down to it, there are two groups that deserve the support of the country, at large: Farmers and teachers. Farmers are the beneficiaries of govt. price supports....teachers are not! LAY OFF TEACHERS.....You could not begin to do what they do!

My mistake.....Do not know how to do pictures.....Gun is in very good shape

Good advice from Lawdwaz. I recomment a Ruger Single-Six Convertible revolver in .22/.22 mag.

Nope....Still have the .410

Can't give you any tips, but I surely will be waiting your after-hunt posts about cooking/eating one of those wild porkers!

Wow....You have made me very hungry....will definitely try this. (Question: OK to use the whole egg?)

Which sign is more informative?
Early replied to mike rossi's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Regardless of color, the signs should be changed to read WILDLIFE MISMANAGEMENT AREA, Ever notice that wildlife populations flourish on private lands adjacent to WMA's, while huntable species appear to be extinct on WMA lands? Ever wonder why??- 38 replies

Wild Apple Tree Rehab
Early replied to NY Region 3 Trapper's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I raised a seedling from the best MacIntosh I ever ate. Mystery apples that came several years later are red on the side that faces the afternoon sun...yellowish green on the other side. They are delicious, with a taste all their own. Note: Mice do great damage to young apple trees. Chicken wire won't work against them....use plastic trunk wrap. (This is why many orchard owners won't allow fox hunting on their property. They like those "mousers"! -

Do not expect Granny Smith apples from those seedlings. The original Grannies were hybrids...offspring may be whatever. I have raised a couple of trees from seeds...just call them "mystery apples" -
Saw this model 11-87 in local gun shop today...one barrel only: smooth slug barrel with rifled choke. Price: $629........Mine is available with two barrels for $600!!! (Note: The 21" slug barrel with an extra full choke makes a dynamite turkey gun!)

Wild Apple Tree Rehab
Early replied to NY Region 3 Trapper's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
General pruning guide: Cut off any branches growing straight up...Where productive branches cross, remove one...Remove those small sprouts, except for those you hope turn into productive branches, filling empty spacees...You can remove up to 25% of the tree's branch mass without hurting the tree or production. When I first planted my apple trees, I fertilized them a lot, and regularly. I grew a bumper crop of branches and leaves. When I dramatically reduced fertilizing or stopped it altogether, my apple production went up substantially. Now, I fertilize trees when I plant them...and then do not fertilize them for several years...maybe not at all, unless I suspect they need it. For a "rescued" wild tree, I would fertilize the first year and then let it go several more before fertilizing again. (Note: Use fertilizer spikes made for apple trees.) -

"Wild" apple trees will undoubtedly benefit from pruning. Many also must be "released" from the shade provided by nearby trees. Apple trees need sun to produce. Go easy on the fertilizer...apply it along the drip line, not at the base of the tree. Remember, too, that bees and wind can carry pollen a long way. Your lone tree may not really be alone! -
Here's one: http://barrelexchange.com/srch_1.cfm?manuf=Mossberg&ga=20+ga.&Submit=Search

From experience, I would suggest that you go easy with fertilizer sticks. Over fertilize, and you will grow apple trees...when yo want to grow apples!
-
That's quite doubtful, Burt....Maybe your taste is that sophisticated; most are not. For example: Hard-core beer drinkers find it difficult...often impossible...to identify their favorite brews in blind taste tests. Tell where a piece of venison came from??....I'd bet against you.
-
I hope we are still talking venison....not some spiced...sauced...marinated hunk of meat that has none of its original taste. Many "good venison cooks" are really just great "cover-up artists".

You can thank Papa Bush for this. It all started with his "New World Order". With that, the Republicans sold out the USA!
