I really love it when you guys bring up God to support your evil notions. Please, give me a break....God, if she does exist, would care for the less fortunate...and hopefully stomp on you hard-hearted right wing bastards!
-
The mark of a great society...or of a great man...is a willingness to care for the less fortunate. I would hope that those of you who rail against welfare do likewise against the costly, illegal wars we are now engaged in...and against the absurd amount of foreign aid our govt. gives away. Do away with the stupid wars and cut back or eliminate entirely all foreign aid, and all Americans would live high on the hog.

I would prefer to always buy American. That said, I do have three foreigh made shotguns, all .410's: a Stoeger coach gun...a Brazilian SxS...and a Huglu O/U. I have had great success with all of them. Have had offers in the field to buy the SxS for more than 4x what I paid for it. No deal....I won't part with it!

Thanks....Was hoping to hear from someone with experience with a hare guide. I'll keep searching.

Killed a couple of turkeys with it....They were no deader than others killed with lead shot. When the box is empty, I will buy no more.

Those Westerns are two really GREAT knives......Lucky you!
-
If I could have one barrel only for all applications, I would choose a 24"-26" barrel. That said, I have seen my grandson shoot everything from rabbits to turkeys to passing geese with only a 21" barrel. Then, too, I have an old Savage Fox double with 30" tubes that I have had great success with. Go figure !!!!

Why you should be an NRA member
Early replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Wait...You posted a quote from someone without identifying him or giving credit? Comes off like you said it...or wish to lay claim to it. "Negativity"...yet another challenging buzz word. I see no negativity in my reply. I was just stating the truth, as I see it. If we disagree...so be it! -
Why you should be an NRA member

Wow...well put together: "God-given" (There are no God given rights)..."freedom lovers" (The freedom lovers in America will never be joined in one organization) "patriots" (There are, and always will be genuine patriots who choose not to join the NRA). The NRA is, and has been, a great organization. Nevertheless, despite your challenges, it is not for everyone. In addition to your promotion of the NRA...do you sell snake oil? -
Much of our local rabitat is overgrown with multiflora rose. Coyotes can't get rabbits out of those thickets; it is even hard for foxes. Fishers...all members of the weasel family....different story: They really take a toll on our local rabbit populations. I think the price for fisher is up right now....Maybe trappers will thin them out a bit.

My thought exactly: pretty darn good for a handgun. And, the kill zone on a deer is a bit bigger than 6", isn't it?
-
Sounds good .... Take him out again soon. Will he play "Fetch"?? If so, get yourself some rabbit scent and train him after dark: Add scent to an old softball, and make him find it with his nose.

Western knives are, as I am sure you know, extremely hard to find. That in mind, give this site a look: http://www.jaysknives.com/westernknives.htm

Anyone know a guide or guides who run dogs for hares in the Catskills? Adirondacks? Thanks, Early

You are not the first guy to leave/lose a knife at a gut pile. That's why I have switched to using orange handled knives for field dressing. I now use the EKA Swede 8 and have bought an assortment of orange knives: Buck, Kershaw, etc. for the rest of the family.

I have an 11-87 with the 26" barrel Pygmy recommends...I love it! For my slug barrel, I bought the 21" smoothbore with rifle sights and RemChoke threads. With an IC choke, it makes a great deer gun for the type of hunting I do. With a turkey choke, it is dynamite on turkeys.

Agree: Lots of good advice here. I do, however, recommend practicing on your lawn...It is easy and convenient to practice on your lawn; not always so easy or convenient to get on the water. You need not restrict your fly fishing to classic fly fishing waters....any stream, pond or lake will work. Target panfish, and bass as well as trout. Some of the best of fly fishing is with small rods on small streams. For the record: I learned to fly fish in Roscoe over 50 years ago...on my side lawn...using a hand-me-down bamboo rod (originally belonged to Roy Steenrod)...my instructor: my mother! Today, I prefer small streams, fishing my Wynantskill Wimp upstream...then fishing back down with my Royal Flashabou. Good Luck, Early

You are correct: The Remington rimless rounds and the .300 Savage were developed in response to the success of the .30-30 Winchester. There is not a whole lot of difference in performance between the .30-30, the .35 Rem. and the .300 Savage. All are excellent deer rounds and have put a lot of meat on the table. If I had to pick just one, it would be the .35...I really like that big 200 gr. slug! Notes: The Remington Model 8 (and later 81) was a Browning hump back design auto loader. Many deer killed in the Northeast with the 8 & 81. Law enforcement also liked these autos: I think they were used in the final shoot out with Bonnie & Clyde. The Remington pumps, the 14 and 141 are also great deer guns in the .35 cal. My son scores regularly with his .35 141; We have already bought one (Dang...they bring high prices now!) as a high school graduation gift for his son.

There are times when I, too, need a big knife for chopping, etc. My original BLACKJACK Model 1-5 is my favorite big knife!

Why not just spread cracked corn on the ground. Easier than doing a food plot....and you get the same result: easy kill turieys!!!!
-
Ahhh....You are obviously a food plotter....and, you are not whining, but you are protesting. C'mon...man up: Be honest as to what you are doing! Your argument is so obvious....you are trying to cover your butt. Pleas admit what you are doing...and why. (We won't forgive you...but at least the truth will be on the table!)
-
Bait pile or food plot...I hunt over neither. But, as stated earlier, I see no difference between hunting over either. Interesting to listen to the whines and squeals of the food plotters!
-
Diference between bait piles and food plots?.....None! The objective of both is to lure game to be shot/killed. If you hunt over a food plot...you are baiting. I will accept no arguments to the contrary.
