My youngest grandson is 15, so this will be our last year of sharing the youth hunt for turkeys. Fortunately, I do have a new grandson on the way...and a great grandson, too. In another dozen years, I'll be back in business!

Dang....If only I had had this 20-25 years ago......!!!!

So I'm at my inlaws having rabbit and homemade wine....

Rabbit and homemade wine here last night, too....Served ten (10), but No...Nadda...Nyet...Nodinski...no lawnmower for me. Consider yourself lucky! -
Good point...APPLY FOR PISTOL PERMIT NOW!!!!! I got my permit 50 years ago when it was a helluva lot easier. My grandson turns 21 in July...I will get him working on his permit application as soon as he does. I currently own three handguns. Over the years, I think I have owned 8 or 9 total. Of these, I have never owned one that I found easy to carry. So for those buying their first handgun, I suggest you carefully evaluate the carry options. Evaluate holsters and carry options at the same time you evaluate handguns.

You got to be kidding me, Jets just traded for Tebow. WHY!?

Early replied to burmjohn's topic in General Chit Chat
The Jets are NUTS!!!! Unless they switch Tebow to another position (He could play a few well!), they have wasted their money (and draft picks). Tim Tebow was a very successful college football player; not so as an NFL player. Now it is time for him to find something worthwhile to do. -
Another Under Handed Attempt at Gun Control
Early replied to wooffer's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
We may be playing a part in this ourselves: Just look at all the hoopla where hunters promote the new non-lead ammo as being far superior to lead...and well worth the cost. Hell, we may end up talking ourselves out of lead. Then, once lead is banned, the anti's will then come back with an attempt to ban this new ammo that "according to hunters" is far more dangerous/destructive than lead. Shut up and keep shooting lead! -
Yep...good cleaning with Gun Scrubber

Ahh.....How true: Picking pellets is just part of the experience!

I walk early every morning...always out at gobbling time. Heard multiple birds gobbling for the past three days. Unfortunately, they were right in the middle of what I call the "Mansion District", a new development of $500,000 homes built right on some of my best hunting territory.

Aw, hell....go ahead and shoot. Better to ask for forgiveness...

Anyone going to the Saratoga gun show this weekend (3/24-5)? Got anything to sell? Anything you are looking to buy or trade for?

I have an old, cheap Little Chief electric smoker. After being frustrated with trying to use it in cold, windy conditions, I made a "sleeve" for it out of 1" styrafoam insulation board....No more problems!
-
Nice buck!.....Now give us a picture of the guy who hunts with that big stick!!!
-
As Red would say, "Now just ast yourself....Would you want the whacko looking guy in the picture introducing this thread to represent you and/or the legitimate rights of all gunowners?....Just ast yourself!"
-
If you go with an electric smoker, the variable temperature control is a MUST! I think the Cabela's smoker you are looking at would be a good one to get.

Smith & Wesson Governor - thoughts? ? ?
Early replied to BizCT's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I have the Taurus Judge, a similar handgun. I don't think it can be beat for home defense...not really sure about the .45 colt for bear...rifling in the barrel produces a really wide spread shot pattern; not good for hunting. With the Taurus being quite a bit cheaper than the S&W, I suggest you give it a look. -
For those of you who might be interested in the Beaverkill, I suggest you go to: www.beaverkillfriends.org and click on "stories".....Barnhart's piece will give you a new insight into the Beaverkill. Sweet Old Bill obviously blocked this message....His loss!

Sweet Old Bill.....PM sent

I'm getting in on this late, but I agree with the recommendations for Savage package guns in .308....or the Marlin 336 in .35 Rem.
-
Your suggestion to borrow a few shells to try is a great one: We have done that many times with our local group of hunters: saves money and adds to the comraderie. Now...Can you explain that "extra full turkey choke jugged barrel"...Never heard of such a thing. Thanks

Get a Remington Extra Full...or Super Full choke...and stick with lead!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the trout opener. Water could be in great shape if we don't get heavy rain between now and then. There surely won't be much of a snow melt runoff. I will choose to fish smaller streams, with no crowds. I'll work upstream with my Wynantskill Wimpf....and then work back down with my Royal Flashabou. Or, if I decide to go with my ultralite spinning gear, I will go with Berkley GULP maggots.

Can't tell from the picture, but roundish, with no visible claw marks = bobcat

Yep...And, we ain't alone!
