  1. Larry, Yes you can have the opportunity to get a nice mature buck without AR's if your area has that structure in place. AR's are clearly not needed in all area's of the state which has been said 1000 times over which you have chosen to ignore along with all the other facts.
  2. At first I thought that site was pornstar.com
  3. Before this gets out of hand, lets all realize that everyone seems fairly passionate about the sport. Keep the arguments civil.
  4. No its not, it was brought on by those who wanted AR's in their respective area. Can't speak for the Cortland deal.
  5. Right thats the entire point of the addition, is just to just cover that part of 3A.
  6. Wouldnt want to trade that 3H would u ?
  7. Oh and to top it off it says "every year MILLION's" of bow hunted deer in this state suffer the same way... WTF?
  8. And what the true story prob doesnt show is that deer was more then likely hunted by a non-hunter, a poacher, during off season with out a license.
  9. It drives me nuts that I can't comment on some of these Anti's youtube video's. If its a public video there should be public comments, and I wanted to comment when I came accross this video. Whoever that user is on youtube is a real winner. Anyways, what I was going to say is that its horrible that the deer suffered and that hunter either made a mistake or an unethical shot. And go on to say that I support hunter for everyone, including the youth. (Some of her other video's were against the 12 year old bill that went through, if you checkout her page here: http://www.youtube.com/user/Mercy4Wildlife I don't know why, it just really pissed me off.
  10. Its posted on the DEC news section , but here also just in case for those who Hunt in this area. On August 17, Governor Cuomo signed into law a bill (S5602/A394-A; http://m.nysenate.gov/legislation/bill/S5601-2011) that establishes mandatory antler restrictions in the portion of Wildlife Management Unit 3A that lies south and west of State Route 28 (includes parts of Delaware, Sullivan, and Ulster counties). The law prohibits hunters from taking any antlered deer except those antlered deer that have at least one antler with at least three points. The law applies to all public and private lands and all hunting seasons. Only hunters under the age of 17 are exempt and may take any antlered deer with at least one antler measuring three or more inches in length. This law goes into effect immediately, and hunters are expected to comply with the new law during the 2011-2012 hunting seasons. Deer hunting regulations in all other WMUs were not affected by this legislation. DEC is in the process of updating our website to reflect the new law.
  11. And to the game departments a dead deer is a dead deer. They need deer shot off, and they could care less what type of headgear the bucks are wearing when they get shot. Genetics and antlers only matter to hunters. Game departments only pretend to be interested in both to make trophy hunters think they are doing something to grow bigger bucks for them. Funny how genetics automatically means ANTLERS to hunters. In humans genetics can mean intelligence, looks, types of personality you might inherit, the type of diseases you might be prone to, many different things. Who is to say that a 4 1/2 year old scrawny antlered buck doesn't have some better genetic traits than one with huge perfect antlers?? Who the hell really knows? All hunters care about are the horns, which tells me this interest in deer genetics is nothing more than a self-serving one for hunters. Where do you come up with this crap? Spoken like someone who truly has no idea what he's talking about. If thats your opinion thats fine but none of it has any basis in fact. So go ahead and explain to us why ANTLERS are always the center of discussion when deer genetics are talked about? Do you know what other undesirable genetic traits that perfect 10 pointer might be passing on to the health of the herd, or does it really matter to you guys as long as the good antler traits are passed? I may know nothing but you sure as hell won't be able to answer this question with any certainty neither. LOL I'm not speaking for others that support AR, however I can care less about a perfect 10 pointer and the other things you assume those who support AR want. I support AR because I'd like to see those yearlings or at least the majority of them that fall under the AR protection to survive another year and get bigger. In addition, allowing that yearling to survive increases the opportunity for that deer to survive subsequent years, aging the herd. Having a solid age structure and balance in a herd effects numerous things such as breading, behavior, and survival. In addition I'd rather have the opportunity to shoot a 2, 3, 4 year old with a nice amount of meat rather then the 1.5 with 40 pounds of meat - just like 70% of the bucks taken in NY are. Anyways, antlers are always brought up because that's how NY state decided to implement restrictions. And Antlers are passed on through genetics, but its not the only factor as you all know, it has to do with nutrition too. So to answer that question, its kind of hard not to talk about Antlers when Antlers are part of deer genetics. Regarding your game department comments, yes the NYS DEC does care about managing the herd population, however they also care about herd health. Go ahead and shoot an email off to one of the state's DEC biologists and ask them if all they care about is a dead deer. If a dead deer is a dead deer then why did they react so quickly to the CWD incidents a few years ago? If you guys are so against AR's you should be out there petitioning to get rid of the spike law also.
  12. Yeah, I was just curious. I wonder when the best time to plant corn is so that its at its prime state in Late Oct / early Nov, I guess that really depends on the type of corn and all the other factors like soil, fert, weather.... Next year I'd like to try corn in my field.
  13. Well, thats a slightly different situation they have there too
  14. Its funny how many bucks I see when the season starts that never once hit one of our or neighbors trail camera's. Deer roam farther then you think.
  15. Neat! Must have been a late born fawn?
  16. I cook up some chilli, cutlets, and meat sauce the few nights before. I'm saving a few pounds of venison for the meat sauce this year. Usually make a huge tray of cutlets to bring up. This year will be different though, I actually have a play to sleep with a kitchen and my own bedroom thanks to the old man building his dream cabin
  17. My desk at work is a mix of my trail camera pictures and my baby girl... So I do think about it throughout the day Especially this time of year, when the season is just around the corner. I'm putting in for my days off for opening week of bow now.
  18. Hey grow do you have any pics of your corn around late October? Curious what it looks like then. (or is this the first year with that)
  19. Gman - whats the website for that turkey federation?
