Welcome Glenn. Sorry to hear youll miss another season. Stay safe over there and most of all THANK YOU AND ALL YOUR BROTHERS STANDING AND FALLEN for helping protect this nation and the American way of living. Without men like yourselves, this country would not be the great place we all take for granted on a daily basis. I am grateful. Stay safe and best of luck.

Anyone Wanna Take a Newbie Out?
A6A6 replied to FunForFree33's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Funforfree. i admire your ambition. i would take you out if i had a promising area to take you too. ' hunting can sometimes be one of the most challenging sport/pastime in the history of the world. the trick is to keep at it. it will get to be discouraging and you may even feel like your failing or not doing it right but just keep on pressing and it will pay off.. pheasants are tough.. especially if you arent using a dog. turkey are swift and very keen.. as for turkey , the advice is have for ya is make sure you are fully concealed , head to toe, including your face.. and even your shotgun some people say makes a difference.. and try to be still any little movement will make em scatter. have you thought about using a decoy ? ive used them for turkey in the past while hunting out of a blind and had results 5 out of 7 try's. but if you cant get yout hands on a blind and decoys , then hang by the edge of a field and hit the calls. .. keep at it. it aint easy but eventually once you do hit, the catch is even more rewarding knowing how hard you had to work to make it pay off.. -
PSE Nova se 65lbs , 30.5 its ok , compared to what other bows ive shot i will be content using it for but definetly need an upgrade. let off is advertised at 65% but feels like nothing near that. not the best grip either. .. hunting for 13 years , only 3rd season coming up with the bow. but for the price i paid, and to use as a beginers bow to learn to shoot, i think it was a worthwile experiece, now ide like to see how much my skills can improve with a newer improved technological bow . only prob is $$ .. what else is new

dude. i totally agreee besides, im sure there is many hunters out there who receive a license and dont even hunt ny or are too old.. waste of postage on the states tab and paper.. there is also the issue of lost mail and other problems too.. every states license now has a barcode or even RFID CHIP so even if your not a NY resident , you can still have your license scanned at the local shop once arriving in ny or requesting your dmp..

it looks like coyotes have earned themselves a little recognition by landing a spot on the cover of the 2010-2011 DEC hunting and trapping guide. along with a short story and link to another page listed on a SUNY college website , they are doing an impact study with a completion date in mid 2011. its examining the impact of coyotes on the deer population in two test areas. i guess this is where our funding from license sales is going. knowledge is power i guess.

yup your right. idk why i ranted about the nuclear plant.. i though i read it in the original question.. my eyes are playing tricks on me.. gettin old sucks.. either way if there is a sign , you shouldnt disobey it .

i would think it to be more of a federal law than a NYS law.. most laws around nuclear anything is all federal... indian point has theyre own private security forces and the guards all have heavy duty artillery on them at all times.. they move like ex military .. no joke.. i wouldnt even think of blinking my eye the wrong way let alone bring a gun into a non gun area... especially in this post 911 era.. everyone should be treated as a threat until further id.. no pun toward you but its just the world we live in nowadays.. bad guys come in all shapes and sizes..

i will always goto a local small archery shop before any large box store... as long as the price is considerably close.. im not gonna get slaughtered, most of the time a smaller place will have alot more knowlede than any kid behind the counter on his summer job at cabelas or gander... no offense to the kid either .. but eddie , your right. sometimes these sports shops have a certain attitude or cockiness about them.. almost as if you need them... but that can be the case with anything in life.. maybe they just had a bad day , too bad he lost your buisness. there is a guy here in brooklyn that is pretty much the only guy around . his attitude sucks , his prices are outrageous and on top, he had no clue about archery, rifles or BUISNESS ETHICS AND MANNERS... the guy is a total A-hole. and its not just once in a while its always.. the shame of it all is that he still makes buisness, people still go there and deal with his prices and attitude just because he is the only guy around for miles.. being nyc, there is alot more tree huggers than sportsman.. always support your local buisnesses... box stores are taking over the planet

if you goto pharmacy they sell these thing that looks like a minature condom. it is actually a "finger condom" and they are sold for people who may have cut theyre finger and use theyre habds alot and want to keep the finger very clean and the bandage in place.. they will fit snug to any barrel and are safe to fire with on. the gasses from the ignition will break the rubber and clear way long befoe the bullet or slug comes up the barrel. you can keep it on your barrell all the time , even for bad weather or snow while walking against brush so no snow gets in therre.

i had a similar issue with a 30.06 when i sight the gun in , i was not on flat land, i was elevated on a cliff and shot at the board 100 yard out.. @ a friends house. i brought the gun to a range i was 3 inches tight grouped off.. but your at half that distance and off by more than that.. . do you have a rifled barrell ??? try to sight in while up in the tree and then shoot on a flat suface.. see what your outcome is., idk why it happened but im sure thee is a scientific answer for it.

i have a farmer that lets us come to his property and clean up his coyote problem. unfortunalely , this year out of 5 stands we only took about 8 coyotes.. we should of had more but shooting at night is very hard and these things wont stand still for a second.. even over a bait pile.. they hit and run. either way.. he usually calls us when he cuts grass in october and we go clean up the coyotes for him in between bow hunting. . we see fox and an occasional coyote come out and grad a field mouse or whatever else is left after the grass is cut, even a woodchuck once. this june he called us and told us to come down. he cut the grass and then out came a mother coyote and along with her 2 little pups . she was i believe trying to teach them how to grab the mice.. he then took us to his two other properties and we observed the same thing with 2 pups and 3 more pups.. all within a 5 miles radius.. that means this year, we have got alot of work to do.. he also told us about a problem he was having with 2 large male coyotes he predicts to be around 60-70lbs.. he had a few cows give birth to 3 faws all went missing into the woods right thru his fence stolen by these 2 coyotes. the mother cows were bugleing for weeks after that. he says those fawns were cost of about 2-3 each. that guy just lost about 9 grand..

there is a safety harness called the Rescue one CDS. it is a full body harness that attaches to the tether and if you fall , you can lower yourself down from the vest/harness itself by pulling a safety release line bundeled in the shoulder of the vest. here is a link and youtube video. this a great idea , its about time someone thought this up. http://www.mountaineer-sports.com/ check it out. even available for fat guys too.. ( trust me , i know)

Whats a "Good" Bear (Size, Paws etc)? How do you rank it?
A6A6 replied to TheHunter's topic in Bear Hunting
150- 300 is a large mature bear. determining sex is alot harder and next to impossible . but for what its worth. if you can see a bear more than once, and you are sure its the same one , the males heads and bodies are a bit larger than females. i wouldnt be able to back this up with proof of a bear since ive never shot one but thats the word.. -
hey all just thinking about looking into one of the Tree Saddle's from a company called trophyline. i was just wondering if anyone has heard of them on here or ever used one. i checked some reviews online and they all seem to be ok . any words from the board ?
-
well. truthfully, i wear one when i am going into a hang on or i intend to use one when i buy a climber. for years past. i dont use one in a double wide ladder stand that i have. i feel very secure in one and the most dangerous period in that stand is my climb up and down and there isnt much to attach on to at that point but once in the seat, the shooting rail is lowered and i feel very secure . i think i may start wearing one in that stand as well . now that i am talking about it, it may bring me the bad luck. lol
