  1. If you have the certificate, I would go to a license agent and ask if it is good. They can tell you. Or call the DEC office and ask. The other wrinkle you may run into is to be considered a resident, you have to have lived here 6 months before getting the license. So, you may end up having to go non resident anyway.
  2. actually it can be taken at 11
  3. I get them from the dec for my hunter ed classes. You should be able to go to the local dec office and pick them up.
  4. if you have the certificate from Florida in your hand, you will not need to take the hunter ed/gun class. To answer your question when you complete the course, you have your certificate when you leave the class. I would be checking the DEC website for any classes that are now posted and sign up. Archery classes fill up fast.
  5. not only the archery class, if you do not have a hunter ed certificate from florida, you will need ot take the hunter ed class as well as the archery class. Licenses from other states are no longer accepted.
  6. and I though we were going to discuss the grateful dead
  7. geesh Ed I am nervous you posted the same thing on page 1
  8. ice constricts blood vessels which inhibits healing and can make getting an infection easier.
  9. we are going to try one. Our plan will be gun field work one saturday and bow the next or vice versa.
  10. it is all still left to instructors as far as class size and schedule.
  11. actually there are many more turkey hunting incidents every year than deer.
  12. I assume nothing of the sort. I hear the horror stories almost everyone on here all the time. I just assume they all live a long ways from me.
  13. they recommend 6 per class. I work with a team of 5 including myself and there is a bow instructor. They do not all have to be certified but need to work with a certified so actually 3 certifieds but 6 total
  14. Finally the DEC is rolling out combo classes. I attended my refresher class last evening. The DEC is going to be rolling out combo classes. This means you attend one class and when it is done if you successfully complete the work, you get both a gun and bow certification. It is also being set up as home study. This means in person registration you get the book and a work sheet. This all has to be completed before the class day. The first thing you take the tests and if you pass, you go on to the field work. Once the field work is completed, you have passed. Field work for both classes in 12 hours. So I plan to do it in 2 days. I think this is a great plan and I will be implementing it at my next class.
  15. I claim zero and am lucky if I break even. The second job and ot kill me.
  16. I may be not interpreting the ad correctly, but I did not see where to said hide behind it and sneak up on birds. When they say close the gap on hung up birds, I think it means the birds will come to it. With common sense ad setting them up like you wold any decoy by staying off to the side, I could see them being effective. I doubt they are the size of a normal umbrella, if it folds down and fits in a pack. If they were, the bird pic on there would look gargantuan. Granted there are idiots out there, and some dummy may try it. But I have to refer back to the old rules of gun safety. Know your target and well beyond. However I must also say there are more hunting incidents during turkey season than deer. Hunter insanity. If you were hiding behind that thing trying to sneak up on a bird, it would not look anything like a bird strutting. Plus while you were trying to crawl behind it and getting scratched up and making so much noise, it would be funny to watch, but otherwise useless.
  17. I would not spend 43 bucks for a stupid piece of plastic that will rip with the first breeze.
  18. actually at one time they were talking and in fact they are still talking about the idea of a combined class for archery and gun But you know how that goes after all is said and done more is said than done. It simply meant you would leave with both certificates. But since there are mandatory hours with each class, you would need minimum of 16 hours and an instructor certified in both gun and archery or try to coordinate between two instructors schedules etc.
  19. because a group of us instructors went to Albany and told them if they made us teach archery, we were going to quit.
