not my thing. That being said, I have always said I would love to invite a couple to my place and say show me how it is done. Just them and I would give them time to scout etc. Then I could see just how good they are. I doubt they would do anything spectacular. That being said, to me they are "merchadise whores" not hunters. Every other word out of their mouth is I used my such and such gun with a such and such bulllet and a such and such laser finder etc etc. They get free canned hunts to hawk for the outfitter, they get free equipment, and get paid. Good gig yes, my kind of gig no.
  2. iI am not saying no deer in there. I hunted more off 184 back in the walk in access and canoed the creek behind the swamp. There are not the numbers there there were 5 years ago. You stil hear of an occasional good one, but not like the days past. I live in Heuvelton, and we are over run by hats it seems. Tough to get anyone to blow them in. And when you do, they want the jp to feel sorry for them. yeah right. not this one.
  3. agreed. I bought my parcel at the county tax sale.
  4. Fish creek is actually pretty barren now for deer. I hunted those swamps for years before I got private land. I have taken some very nice deer out of there over the years. However, there has been a lot of lets say religious straw hat wearers surrounding the area, and the deer population had dwindled tremendously.
  5. I agree that the river valley ag land may have more deer. My camp is not far from russell in the hermon area. I have a good popuilation of deer and bear. You can not hunt bear in the waddington area if that is part of the plan. I seem to be one of the lucky ones as most in my area are not seeing as many deer. The russell area has plenty of ag land also. I guess the bottom line is what you plan to hunt as well as how you want to hunt.
  6. thank you. it so far appears to be working. Well I must say it has not been tested since I posted it. I am sure soon I will post something unpopular and be reminded again of what my opinion should be.
  7. As i see it anytime I can get land I get it. As mentioned above 5 acres is plenty to hunt as long as you do not over prsssure it the same as any tract of land. If it does not work out, you can sell it and retrieve the money owed.
  8. I reload, work up and shoot loads for all my guns, shoot a lot mostly competition sporting clays and handgun, golf, bowl, fish, ride my motorcycle and 4 wheeler. SPend time at camp planting food plots cutting wood, work on my house. Breathe. I guess that is it. OOPS I forgot teaching 3 or 4 hunter ed courses a year. 10 years ago I made a resolution to never make another resolution. It is the only one I ever stuck to.
  9. I second the bergara barrels for both ml and rifle. However I would contact Carlos at Eds gun shop. If you are interested pm me I iwll give you his contact info. He also deals in trades and may consider trading your t/c ml for a barrel.

    Seriously

The bottom line is people will think what they think. I mean in the very first post Paulie said I sat down and I looked for orange or a flash light. If that is not condidtioning to only look for ornage, I do not know what is. Next time any of you including myself look for others, I hope a little more dilligence may be in order. If someone is sitting at a base of a tre with camo on, htere is still a lump there. Condidtion yourself to look for the not so ordinary rather then to look fo rthe obvious.

    Seriously

sometimes explaining logic is like pushing a rope. Yoy arent going to get anywhere.
  12. Is there a particular part of the county? it is actually a very big county with diverse terrain and deer populations. I own in and hunt in 6c which at least in my part is pretty well populated. Other parts deer seem very scarce. So again if you tell me what you are looking for hunting wise, I can give you a better idea of what is available.

    range time

This is my first 45 barrel. I guess since a 50 cal round ball is 177 grains and very effective, I was thinking lighter faster and more whack. Most guys I have talked to use either the 180 or 200 grain range in a 45. I also have some mmp sabots for 38 158 grainers. I find them I think a little light. That being said I am guessing I am pushing that 180 grain bullet out of the ml with 100 grains of blackhorn at probably 2500 to 2100 fps. I shoot a 115 grain bullet out of my 25-06 at 2700 fps and it is very effective.
  14. sneak into the local zoo get the big one on display and get out without gettign caught. This of course would mean since it is poaching you must wear undetectable camo. J/k The by far most challenging way is to use a flintlock on a damp rainy snowy day. Try it once you will agree. The term keep your powder dry has a huge meaning

I plan just to get harvestor sabots and shoot 10mm 180 grain xtp's in them.

thanks. i have no clue if they are made by mmp. I know the mmp I had that shot 38's went down much easier than these do.

I did not drag out the chrono today as it was cold and my first time out. I am thinking I am going to buy a pack of harvestor to try. The prepackaged t/c sabots and 10 mm bullets loaded way too easy. I am so far happy with the knights

Thanks I did enjoy. I met a coule buddies there. I shot my 10/22 my 54 renegade 45 encore bergara barrel and my new encore 7-08 barrel. First range trip with the renegade,45 and 7-08. Overall I was pleased. my 54 renegade 4 shots first two top an adjustment on the tang peep site at 50 yards. 90 grains of goex ffg black powder patched round balls rws caps tang peep site 45 encore bergara barrel 100 grains blackhorn 209 knight high pressure sabots 10mm 180 grain hornady xtp cci standard 209 primers nokon 3x9x40 buckmasters scope. 50 yards first two shots.
  20. another option check the t/c impact. It is a cheaper rifle, but still a good one. It has the same barrel as the encore, and the same life tinme warranty. I had one for a couple years and regret selling it. You might consider selling your pistol barrel and check for a used ml barrel and use the frame you have now.
  21. you will not beat a 10/22. I own one and love it. Good shooter reliable gun

I rthink after a bit I am going to go to the range and try out my new 45 encore barrel. Also my new 7-08 encore barrel and maybe shoot some through my 10-22. Pics when I return
