this is where the city came from

if it happens to you, you will have an entirely different perspective. Yesterday morning I watched an awesome buck on the neighbor property in an open corn field. He got within 100 yards of me and walked into the thick brush. So I guess it would have been ok to fling lead at him over there? My stand is on the line and faces my property. I did not shoot because it was not my land. I expect the same from the guy next door shooting on my land. And even oif the deer was on my side, I have no legal right to retrieve it from the neighbors properrty without permission(which I have). Did you guys miss the part where he said the guy basically threeatened him saying he could mistake him for a deer. To me that is a serious threat. You may want to run with your tail between your legs, but not me. Wanna shoot deer on my side, pay my taxes like I do. And I am far from the city.

ok my mistake. I never saw one. I am thinking it is an aftermarklet stock. I sold a z7 blued regular stock for 200 earlier this fall. That is a start

I thought the thunbhole stocks in the omega were universal and the hammer is centered to be ambidexterous

I had a close family member/neighbor pass away 11/2/11. She had been sick a while, so my hunting time has been limited as I was spending time with her in the hospital. Anyway, 2 weeks ago, I was in the tree stand that overlooks a swamp edge. Through the thick brush and swail grass, I watched what looked like a 10 point following a doe through the thick stuff. As the doe got to the edge of the opening to the hardwods, she turned away from me and headed away in the tall grass. Needless to say, so did the buck. I am not a person to take an iffy shot through thick brush and hope for the best. This morning, a buddy and I went out on our annual traditional Thanksgiving morning hunt. This is year 28 we have done this and have had a good deal of success. (yes I know I am old). I decided to take a watch along the neighbors property line, which is a cut corn field. At 7:15, the buck appeared in the corn field about 175 yards across the open field and began to feed. Number one that told me the best of the rut is over and the bucks are feeding heavy again. The land next door is off limits, so I watched him hoping he would come my way. I pulled out the primos can and bleated a couple times. This got his attention, but not real strong. He did work his way to me to about 100 yards. He fed and moved around but would not come across the property line. He then slipped back in the thick heading toward the swamp to bed down. This is two times I could have taken a chance, but decided not to. I watched him probably 15 to 20 minutes hoping and waiting. He is a nice heavy 10 and I shot a 197 pound 8 point last year. This deer body size was bigger at least before he hit the ground. About a half hour later, the guy who leases the land drove his truck back into the field and started looking at the tracks. We have about 5 inches of snow since yesterday morning. I yelled over to him and said you are about an hour late. I then told him what I had saw, and how I exercised restraint. He thanked me for that, and said he would do the same if he was on my side. He drives the truck back in and sits in it in the brush on the other side of the field. I told him I would not shoot in that direction even of the deer was on my side and he agreed not to shoot in my stand direction. We did agree that fair chase was fine if either of us do hit something to go get it if it crosses over the property line. All he has to hunt there is a green field and cut corn field, so he was happy to here come over and get one if it crosses. The land owner keeps the rest for himself. He pays 2500 a year to drive his truck back in the field sit in it and try to shoot a deer. However even though I do not agree with his hunting methods, I am sure he will abide by the rules. I am back to camp tomorrow morning after the festivities today. I will be looking for a place to ambush him on my side. Good luck to all and Happy Thanksgiving

from another perspective. Who is going to teach it? The volunteer instructors who are bugged all the time now to do classes? I do 3 to 4 classes a year now. Not going to add more to my agenda unless the paycheck gets bigger

I would make it very clear to this guy that even if he shoots a deer in his 20 yard window he has no legal right to cross the property line to retrieve it, and of he does it will end with a tresspass charge. Then I would call the DEC report it and let them go talk to him even if nothing comes of it. Once they are in a place like that, they tend ot check it closer after that. Just maybe he might get the point. I would also tell the officer about his comments of mistaking you for a deer. Drop this in the lap of the authorities.

yes they need to go to jail, but in reality they wont. Sad but true

95 grains blackhorn 209 harvastor green rib sabot hornady xtp .430 240grain winchester 209 standard primers. It will clover leaf all day at 100 yards and knocks em dead as a stone. When it comes to powder most times, less is better. It is very complicated to work up a good load with pellets. I know I know convenience, but unless you get lucky and want to accept 5 inch groups. This is in my encore, which is theexact same barrel and over 30 years of muzzleloader experience.

Hey Tom get that little guy post a pic and wait until you are told you photoshopped it.

I hunted state land for many years until I acquired private land. I di dwell, and found that getting away from the crowd was not that tough if you went to the places that were harder to get to. I used to go off the roads and get right in the swamp and I mean in the swamp. We would wait for the as we called them city hunters to walk the ridge and move the deer off into the swamp. Yeah it was tough hunting, but good hunting.

A buddy who hunts at my camp has not had much time to hunt. He was one of the three I think who got a dmp fo rmy area. Anyway he stopped here yesterday and singed it and handed it to me. I told him if I could see anice one I would fill it for him. I sat this afternoon overlooking a sugar beet food plot. At 4 pm a nice doe appeared an dbegan feeding in the beets, I watched her for about 10 minutes and decided to fill his dmp. I called him at 5 and asked if h ewanted me to drop it off at his place. His response was man you dont waste time do you. A nice 120 pound doe for his freezer. No pics as the camera batteries were dead.

Tom come on hush you are giving away north secrets.
-
from the first post to your rebuttal post the story seems different. It went form looking in windows driving in a field seeing no eyes to a drag mark. Yup complaining about it here is a better plan than reporting it. I will remember that tactic next time I see poachers looking in my windows. And if you read my post closer I said if you think it is new to your corner of the world you are living in a bubble. Than infers it has been going on. Your post made it sound like it was the first time there were ever poachers. Take the time to read and comprehend before attacking and youmay want to post the whole story instead of parts and then tell everyone they are stupid when you omit most of the information.

hey Tom these guys have no clue about northern new york deer. Keep it a secret or they will all be here If you look even walking deer in soft ground will make a bigger looking track. That is by far a big deer. In the north it is about quality not quantity. One big one equals 3 dog sized ones

Mecosta County MI News - Wednesday, November 16th, about 6:48 pm, Deputies from the Sheriff's Office were dispatched near 2-Mile Road and 85th Avenue in Hinton Township. According to Detective Casey Nemeth, a 26-year-old Hinton Township man, Harry Weaver form Lakeview MI, was found fatally shot in his deer blind. Nemeth said Weaver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the gunshot was fired by his 23-year-old younger brother, an Austin Township man who was hunting near by. According to the sheriff's Department, the two Amish brothers were hunting. Harry was in a dear blind, and his younger brother was hunting in a nearby field. The younger brother was unaware of Harry being in the deer blind, and he took three shots with a rifle at a running deer, he missed the deer, but one of the bullets went several hundred yards across the field into the deer blind, and struck Harry in the head. Unaware of this, the younger brother then went home. Harry Weaver was found later in the evening by other family members who became worried when he did not return to the house for chores. According to a news release, the incident remains under investigation, and the Sheriff's Office is still awaiting ballistics from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab. Neither of the two Amish brothers were wearing orange hunting clothing. A Morley Rescue unit, and an Alpha-2 EMS unit was on the scene with the Mecosta County Sheriff's Department. according to the local news sounds to me like he knew the blind was there, had no clue anyone was in it.. And the guy in the blind was not wearing orange go figure.

I was gonna say was there too mucg celebrating before typing lol. Nice deer and good plan to get him

If you truly think these are the first, you live in a bubble. These are the first you know of. Poaching is serious all over the state. It did not just filter in to your little corner of the world. I never knew of poacher looking in windows unless there were deer hanging in the building they wanted to steal. Sounds more like thieves to me. If this act was witnessed did anyone call the law? Did anyone get a licence plate or description? You want it gone, you need to do your part. Sounds more to me like you are assuming they were poachers,
