I agree totally. The other big barrier we have is out state govt. The majority and I know I will get hell from this one, form the city area who represent us work hard against hunting. Look up records of senators and legislators and see how they vote against everything to do with hunting and see how they vote. It is tough in such a majority liberal state to get keep things going. We are still waiting on crossbows changes in Albany as well as a youth hunt. Everything is a political game.

my club the black lake fish and game club and the st lawrence county sportsmans federation does many things on 9/29 we are sponsoring a youth pheasant hunt. Birds supplied by the state local gun dig club provides dogs and handlers and the club supplies ammo and lunch. We have anywhere from 60 to 80 kids every year. We also sponsored a wounded warrior hunt and a ladies hunt with the same people and events. we are targeting the ones who can build up numbers. But they have to have a license first to attend the shoots, so they have to have an interest before they attend, not a lets go see what this is about. If you can not get kids interested and through a class, none can attend. Part of the problem is the fast paced society. I know of one kid who has been trying for 2 years to get in a class. it is either football, drama club or some family function that keeps him out. I have spoken directly with his mother several times and even said give me a schedule that works for 2 weekends in a row. She has not been able to.

I hope to shoot it tomorrow evening. I had to change the fiber optic on the front site. They were all three green. Put a red one on the front.

how does one scrape a company? in obama's administration after taxes we will not b able to afford the edsel -
yes they recommend not wiping between shots. It is so close to smokeless you treat it the same.

yes but a leader leads the way start with your store and see if there is interest. I am a leader at my job every day in fact my title says leader in it. I know what it means and how to do it.

you do not need an invitation to become an instructor. Go to the dec website go to become an instructor print the app fill it out mail it in. It is that simple. Your regional coordinator will set you up with other instructors in your area to mentor with. BTW I have mentored and assisted probably 8 to 10 people to become instructors. I am not sure where you are, but you are welcome to come here and learn the ways and I will mentor you also. I work 6 days a week and do not have time to travel at least an hour and half one way to ask stores about a mentor program. I do more than most will ever do. Fill out the app go to your store and see what you find out and report back. You had the ideas then wanted to delegate it to others. Now lets see how much effort you put forward. I also have not seen anyone else respond they will head to the store today or tomorrow either. be a leader not a delegator

my nearest gander and dicks is almost 2 hours away. I do my part by having classes to get people to the point where they can purchase a license. Maybe you might want to look into some of the the other ideas too.

Hey run with it, Let me know if I can help and I will. My point about a license fee drop is simply this, Yes it is cheap per day, but if you have to shell out 4 or 5 hundred for everyones license in a family, that runs into money. Want more numbers and you want volunteers, push more people including yourself to become hunter ed instructors. There are always more people wanting to get in a class than there are people to teach. I just became a bow instructor as well as gun and my team does 4 or 5 classes a year which certifies anywhere between 100 and 150 people a year. I still have ppl calling to get in and asking for more classes. If there were more instructors teaching, more ppl would join the ranks as this has to be the first step to hunt.

I see we have another priming for the idiots list.

I found a thompson center 50 caliber grey hawk at a garage sale for 75 bucks. Gun looks new sidelock stainless barrel and furniture. Bore looks new. I put a set of fiber optic sites on it. I plan to take it to the range with patched round balls and pyrodex rs. If I can get it dialed in, I plan to use it for early ml along with my inherited 54 renegade.

BH 209, I use hoppes #9 with great results. But you are not supposed to wipe the barrel between shots with bh209. When you start using it, you will be amazed the ease of loading shot after shot with no wiping the barrel.
-
boiling water ins the ultimate for older powders. How do you think the pioneers and mountain men did it before all the fangled cleaners? But if you plan to use borebutter and the like, be dire you dry the barrel completely. Those type lubes will trap water against the barrel if there is any in there and cause rust for sure. At the range, I use cheap windex as mentioned. I only clean with boiling water and patches when I return home. Then a couple patches with rem oil inside. I have used this method for over 30 years with no problems.

there is a lot of liability in doing so in this day and age. Everyone should be background checked as well as finger printed in my opinion. I would not send my children into the woods alone with a stranger. Granted 99 percent of those participating would be legit, but the 1 percent will ruin it. I can not see any vendor wanting to take on that liability by collecting data. And those who would be legit will not want to go through these steps to help someone else become a hunter. lower the hunting age to get kids involved and hooked before all else takes over lower hunting license cost so ppl can afford to buy them for their family open up more areas for people to be able to hunt. I think your idea is great, but I can not see it getting off the ground
