  1. I went out after squirrel last Friday, only saw one and could not get a shot off...still lots of time left in the season though! I do it with the shotgun instead of the .22, little bit safer to shoot at the ones in trees.
  2. We have cable from Roadrunner. I get about 7 down and am lucky if I can get 1 up. Everyone in our area who has Roadrunner is fed through the same pipe and it is NOT fat enough to support all the customers. No FiOs here.
  3. ...and just had three deer walk through my backyard. In freakin suburbia. I guess I'm crazy for trying to find deer in the forest.
  4. I am not sure what entity owns the right of way. It is surrounded by state land on both sides. There is no Posted Sign or State Land Boundary sign anywere along the right-of-way. But as for ATV use, I see two possibilities here: 1) The land is owned by the state and leased to the power company. In this case, ATV use is prohibited unless there is a sign permitting it. (There isn't) 2) The land is privately owned and leased to the power comapny. In this case, they can not be on the land without land owner permission. As I said though, they're are no posted sign or other sign indicating that the land is private.
  5. Damn, I wish my brother was as cool as you...Welcome aboard!
  6. Was hunting on a piece of state land tonight which is bisected by a right-of-way. (power lines) About half an hour before sunset set, a Chevy Blazer and three ATVs come roaring up the access road along the right-of-way. That wasn't legal, was it?
  7. We saw two doe in 4L yesterday. If it were rifle season and we had doe tags, Dad and I each would have gone home with a deer...
  8. I want to do it myself but I live in the dorms in the middle of a city so it is just not practical. Once I graduate, though...
  9. Went out this afternoon. 30% chance of rain, my ass. We got poured on. Heading to the Catskills tomorrow to try again.
  10. Didn't go this morning but heading out in about an hour for an evening hunt.
  11. Occasionally, there are times when being single is awesome. Such as when you want to go hunting.
  12. Weather actually looks OK for us Easterners...going out this weekend to try and get my first bow deer.
  13. Thanks for that info, what are their prices like?
  14. Season is right around the corner, so bump for good measure...
  15. I have it off but it looks like it is going to be boiling this weekend...
  16. I do it whenever it starts to look fuzzy. I shoot often so I wax often.
  17. First of all, I am looking for discussion only here. If you can't talk about the subject at hand without name calling or insulting, take your words elsewhere. I had an interesting discussion with my Dad while we were pheasant hunting earlier, I had one in front of me that I could not flush; my dad said I should have shot it on the ground. I asked him if that was ethical, and he said it didn't matter since they were stocked birds and would not survive the winter anyway. Now my Dad has been hunting for 45+ years, so it's not like he's just out for some cheap thrills. Now I saw 4 more pheasant that day and wasn't able to get a shot at any of them. So either I suck at hunting or we don't give ground pheasant enough credit, but anyway, I would like some other opinions on this. Keep in mind we are talking strictly about stocked birds, not wild ones. Also, we do not hunt with a dog, making it very difficult to flush the birds.
  18. I don't know about a heat gun, but I doubt a blow dryer will be hot enough, you need to use near boiling water...
  19. I guess I am just damn lucky then because I shoot the quikspin through a WB and no problems at all. The trick to applying them is to lower them SLOWLY into the water to prevent air bubbles from from getting trapped under the wrap. Also, it's not like I don't shoot alot or anything, I belong to a league and shoot 3x a week or more.
  20. I have smart phone, but no service where I hunt!
  21. I've been skiing since I was 3. (<-That is not a typo) I usually get a season pass to Stratton in Vermont for year, and try to make it to other places like Whiteface and Killington mainly. I also teach at Jiminy peak during school vacation.
  22. When I was taking the hunter safety course, the DEC officer that came said any range finding device, bow mounted or otherwise, was legal as long as it did not project a visible beam of light.
  23. I wish I could go, but school is going to keep me out of the woods until the weekend...
  24. Anybody know of any? Normally I would do this myself, but I live in the dorms in a college in the middle of Troy, and I can't possibly think of it looking good for hunter image if I am standing in the middle of the parking lot cutting up a deer...
