Why wont they buy ash trees out of your yard ? I have 3 huge ash trees in my yard that are as straight as an arrow.

Touring Alaska, the Pope took a couple of days off to visit the mountains for some sight seeing. "Well," the logger said, "he may have access to all God's wisdom, but he sure doesn't know anything about bear hunting... Whats a swamped barrell and do I want it?

Didn't notice any, and I hope they don't become interested in it till after the frost hits it and I'm in the woods with my bow. It isn't really all that big and they will be able to clean it out rather quickly when and if they take a likeing to it. I didn't really go all out on it this yr and only planted turnips and rape in the center to see what would happen since this is my 1st yr doing a plot on this land. Will put some kind of cereal grain in the rest of it come Sept. to fill in the rest of it. Its still rather hot and I really don't start to see deer alot on the property till gun season starts or when the rut kicks in so hopefully it wont be 1 day its there and the next its gone but that is what I expect will happen. That is if they take a liking to the turnip and rape this yr. I have read where it will sometime take up to 3 yrs for deer to relize they like it.

As disturbing as it is that a well known hunter as Tedd doesn't know the game laws of the areas he's hunting or claims to not know, at least he fessed up and paid up instead of trying to make excuses. I have more respect for him for that than for all the big deer he's shot. That was probably the most expensive spike he ever shot. ;D

Not necessarily, More deer from less hunters and less pressure would mean more deer movement and more natural deer movement during the day and not at night.

Cut them all down and make some money before they are worthless, there all going to die anyhow. What exactly is an ash tree good for anyhow eccept burning?

Without a legitimate poll of all hunters, how do we know how many truley want it? Same way they come up with Population #'s. 1 doe, 1 fawn, 1 spike = 20 deer per square mile with trophy potential.

Really hate to tell you but all the hunting shows do the same thing. They all hunt ranches, large fenced in areas, or over populated leases. Everyone of them is just as bad as Uncle Ted.

Your land is only rented to you by the state and the deer belong to everyone in NY. If you don't beleive me don't pay you taxes and shoot a deer out of season and you will see who owns what. They will put AR in place if enough people say they want it wether or not everyone wants it or if its right or not.

Man I just got done reading up on building a longrifle and it kind of made me sick to my stomach when they were talking obout using chisles to remove wood to make sure the barrel fit snug. I just don't have the patience or the tools to do it myself, I could see myself removing to much wood and ruining a $400 stock. ??? I think I will let the professionals do it. Besides in the end if I were to buy the kit the tools and vices and everything else that gos into making one it will be about the same anyway only difference is it might actually work if someone else does it.

I would actually like to hit the deer, If I put it together I'm not sure it would work and more than likely shoot around corners. Seriously I wish I was handy with building things, It's quite a lucrative business. If you know what you are doing you can get thousands for your guns. Some of these guys are backed up for yrs. And more and more of them are closing there doors because they are just getting to old to do it anymore. It's quite sad.

Here's a question. I have read that turnips and brassicas in general may need a 2nd fertilizing because they grow so fast, so once they get to a certain size they might start turning yellow. My question is how do you fertilize the plants without burning them. its not like I can just fill up the spreader and go to town without running over my plants and if I just throw it on by hand it might burn the plants wont it?

I think thats why I want to get one. I sold my shotgun and got a T/C Triumph for the challenge of muzzleloading and hunt all gun season with it. Now im ready to go even further backward I do enjoy a challenge, I killed my 1st three deer with a 35lbs recurve before I could even hunt with a gun. Besides its a dieing skill I think. I got one reply out of all the hunters on here, everyone is looking for easier and easier ways to kill deer and no one is learning the old ways of doing things. Besides some of these longrifles are an work of art and are just beautifull. I am not interested in all the fancy silver and brass work but some nice deer carvings on the stock of a poorboy longrifle would look nice. It will take me a while to get enough money to pick one up any how so I might be able to find someone who has one by then. I think your basic hand crafted poorboy is running about $1400 to start out and could take up to a yr to build depending on how behind the maker is on his orders. And one thing I have read is too make sure you "spring" for the best lock possible so it might run a little more than that 1400 especially if you want special carving on it. I don't want anything really fancy or I might not take it into the woods at all but I do want a handmade American Rifle not some foreign pc of crap or assembly line junk.

Not sure I want 12 yr olds running around the woods with guns or not either. But when I was 12 I was running around the woods with a gun, started out with a bb gun then went to a 22 when my Dad got tired of me begging him to take it out. I personally would not have allowed me to take a gun out in the woods but things were done differently back then I guess, just like we never had to wear seat belts either. Todays kids are so strapped into the car they are almost part of the car. Hunting is being lost on the younger kids now because they get more interested in video games and tv before they can even go hunting so I think we need to get to them younger and get them interested before there minds are gummed up with TV. My brother started taking my nephew duck hunting when he was 8. Now he can't wait till he can get in the woods and hunt deer too.

Anyone know of a good flitlock longrifle builder in NY or PA that is close to Binghamton NY? I am going to start setting Money aside to commision someone to build me a good flintlock. I am looking at either a Lancaster, a Reading Longrifle or a Poorboy Barn Gun. I have no experience with a longrifle, just inlines, so any advice on what to look for in a good gun would be helpfull. Has anyone ever had anything built by Gobbler Knob Longrifles in Montrose PA? They seem to be the closest I have found so far.

Plant a few apple trees and pear trees. The deer will walk over apples to get to pears. Then you have the apples an food plot with turnips and sugar beets to carry over after the pears are gone and everything else has been killed by frost. Everywhere else plant the tallest growing grasses you can find as cover and the deer will never leave once the shooting starts. If you hunt smart and don't trample your hunting grounds to death and hunt the edges you would probably see an increase in deer IMO.

Alot of the bare spots have plants growing in them their just starting to sprout. Not sure why they took so long to sprout and the other areas took right off. Might be because we havent had a good soaking rain till today, so some of the areas got more moisture than others.

So the rain has been pretty sparse since I put my plot in so I wasn't sure how the plot was going to look when I went to check on it but it looks like its coming along pretty well. This was the 1st time a plot had gone in this spot so I over seeded a little in case there was a failure to grow. Might need to go in and thin it a little when it gets bigger if the deer don't eat it right away. They don't seem to be interested in it right now. Hope that changes when it frosts. The blank areas are going to be filled in with winter rye in September.

I have hunted in Mississippi and so does everyone who lives in Mississippi. Also Louisiana and Alabama. These states are Massive and Thick and around 70 to 80 degrees during the season. I suspect AR has increased the number of smaller bucks and educated the bigger bucks not to visit the food plots and bait pile which everyone seems to hunt over down there. Which is what I use to do in Alabama because everyone else did. Well one day I walked back into the swamp and low and behold it was thick with massive rubs. So I set up on the rub line and nailed a beautiful 8 point which everyone was amazed about because they don't see a lot of big bucks on the food plots because everyone has food plots and they sit right on them educating the big bucks not to visit till dark. (Which made everyone mad that a Yankee had killed there big buck ) So the big bucks are there and I would suspect even more now since they lowered how many deer you can shoot now also. When I was hunting there it was 1 buck a day for 4 months ( there season gos until end of January and the rut starts in January in Alabama) And a week of doe where you could kill one doe a day.

So then AR will not decrease your ability to harvest a legal buck in your area while saving two, three and four points for the following yr along with the odd 6 and 8 and if your lucky 10 point. This increases the amount of deer left over for the following yr. So if you want to shoot a 6 point every yr your more than welcome to. So basically AR would not effect your ability to kill a buck in your area, plus allow more bucks that people aren't sure if there legal or not legal to survive the onslaught for another yr for people who prefer to shoot 8's. So if all go's to plan at the very least there will be an increase in the amount of 6's and 8's for more people to shoot instead of just the 1st person to see a buck in an area blasts it and everyone else go's without. Right now just about everyone I know wants to shoot a bigger buck has the mentality that why should I let the spike 3 or 4 point go when my neighbor is just going to shoot them. I could see how AR would make people think that your deer herds racks are shrinking if you have an increase of young bucks every yr and every one is shooting these small bucks while educating the bigger bucks and making them nocturnal making everyone think there are no big bucks. Now I really have to get back to staining my deck. I had a brilliant idea to build my deck bigger to around 14x32. Now I have to stain it, and a word to the wise if you build a deck that big spend the money and have someone else do the staining it suuuuuuuucccccckkkkkkkssss!!!!!!! Atleast I didn't have enough money to wrap it around the house like I originally planned to do
