unless you have a couple of chickens or a goat tied up by your stand and the dogs come through and kill them ( which is baiting domestic pets ) you will be in big trouble if you shoot a pet without cause just for walking on your property. Now if you report it to the dogwarden everytime you see them on your property then the owner will get in trouble. Don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out which is a more desireable outcome.

unless you are 100% sure it is feral I wouldn't go shooting someones pet( and at that fat I highly doubt its feral). I don't think hunters need that kind of press with some crying little girl sobbing about her pitty that some mean hunter shot. Some douche bag shot a cat with a crossbow down here in Binghamton last month and it was all over the news about this cat running around with a bolt sticking out of it.

I think it would be more advantageous to put up more than 2 cameras. I don't think you would get a very good Idea of deer movement with one camera unless you moved it around a lot. I have only had one camera and it was a 35 mm one that I never even got to work, but would like to get a few in the future since I don't get to get out and scout as much as I use to. In Fasteddies case he learned that it was a waste of time to even hunt where his camera was, wish I had had that kind of input on a few occasions before the season. I think alot of people just put the cameras on food sources which can give you useful info but its only a 1/4 of the info you need to be successful. What trail are they using, where are they staging before they enter the food source? This is more useful info than what time they are entering the food source IMO. Plus camera photos only tell part of the story. Where are the rub lines, where are the scrapes, where are the does? If you can put the photos the rub lines and the does together I think you will be more successful. And if you want to really know what the deer are doing don't use bait. Bait doesn't give you an accurate picture of deer movement because it moves them from there regularly scheduled program, and when you remove the bait prior to deer season they go back to there regular movement and will give you the impression they are gone from the area, which might be what they have done since there is no more food there they have moved on to the real food sources. So you have just wasted alot of time and will be really frustrated during the season when all these big bucks you were seeing on camera suddenly disappear and your neighbor shoots them on his food plots.

I remember going to Palmers Taxidermy in Endicott one time to get a rack in the 120's put on a plaque . I remember looking around going holy cow these deer are huge. I asked him where they were shot and he said he wasn't allowed to tell. I think with all the trespassing going on a lot of people are keeping quite about where they kill big ones. I know I don't tell anyone who has a chance to hunt some of the deer I hunt what I see.

anyone remember hearing about this buck or is this new to everyone. Makes you think how many more monsters are out there on peoples walls no one knows about.

Thumbs already feeling a lot better, I unwrapped it and soaked it in some water and it let some of the fluid out so there's not so much pressure on the nail. I'm able to bend the thumb now though the nail up still feels numb. Going to get the bow out tomorrow and try again.

Rye is coming in good, but the deer are mowing it over as fast as it comes up. Might have to go and get another 15 lbs to fill in the bald spots. There is an area to the left of the pic that is already mowed down to dirt.

I killed my 1st three deer ( and several squirrels) with a Bear Kodiak my Dad got from his Dad on his 16th birthday. My 1st compound was a Hoyt super slam eclipse, and when I got tired of lugging that heavy bow around the woods, I bought a Pearson King Cobra back in 1998. I still use this bow and it still works great. Though I have been wanting another re curve or maybe a nice longbow lately.

glad I watched the videos, he made the point about getting a fowler because its a multiple use gun. Its accurate enough to shoot deer but you can hunt small game with it to. Looks like I need to do a little research on this.

I split my left thumb nail down the middle at work today and they had to pull the cuticle up and put half the nail back in place. I can barely move my thumb and worst of all I cant pull my bow back and there is only 12 days left. I'm so bumbed!

pretty cool what go's into building a good flintlock rifle. Might take a while for me to save up for one but im going to get one. Their a work of art I can get into.

The difference is one has been deemed legal by the state of NY while the other has not. If you want to bait in NY you have to grow your bait. If you want to break the law then dump deer crack out of a bag and brag about what an awesome hunter you are. There is no difference between shooting a deer at night and using bait. IMO they are both breaking the law so there is no dif. If you use illegal baiting methods you are just as bad as the hunter who jacks a deer at night

Those werent even my scariest runins with bears. I had one chase me out of the woods while mushroom hunting one time to. Only thing I had on me was a 2inch pocket knife then. I think they were more curious than out for a meal. I think if they had wanted to pounce on me in any of the above situations they could have easily done it.
