A Pearson Kin Cobra. I bought it back in 98 but can't see buying another bow as long as this one still works great.

I hunt mainly out of a stand but have killed and missed the majority of my deer stalking through the woods or just standing behind a tree in the woods mainly during the rut when they are not paying attention.
-
Here's another view of it next to an nice 10 point that a local farmer shot. Neither of these deer were seen by anyone ( that was talking at least) before they were killed. So there here, just don't get that big being stupid. What do you think it would score?

Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)
erussell replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
I don't feel safe without my orange on!! I have run into lots of people in the woods not wearing orange, and it blows my mind. If I can't see you behind the deer I'm about to shoot, that's one's your fault. I went hunting on my Grandfathers land one time and had been sitting there about 10 min when I noticed movement in the thick brush in front of me about 50 yrds away. I didn't raise my gun or point it in that direction but I got ready. Then this guy in full camo trespassing noticed me sitting there and took off on a full run the other way. If there had been a deer in there and I had shot at it I never would have known he was even in the area. It just blows my mind that some people don't wear orange. If I hunt flat land I just wear my orange vest. But if im hunting the mountains I wear a hat to. I don't want to get my face shot off when Im sticking my head up over the hill to see if there is anything on top. Ive been busted by just as many deer when I have been in full camo as when Im in orange. Movement is the key not the color. I found a site somewhere that I am trying to find again where the guy was wearing a Hawaiian shirt bow hunting. It has a bright color but it has a large broken pattern that broke up his outline, and with the way deer see they never paid him any attention. I think some people like to blame the orange because in there mind they are sticking out like a pumpkin, but it's not the orange they are keying in on its the movement. So when a deer gos running off they automatically blame the orange when really they got tired or distracted and didn't keep there mind on the game and keep there movement to a minimum. -
My honeyhole plot 2010 edition...
erussell replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Yeah me to. I still have to put down the lime and fertilizer anyhow, hope to get done sometime in the next few days. Not looking forward to walking 150 lbs of lime and 100 lbs of fertilizer up the hill, the neighbor said I could use his 4 wheeler but don't think I want to bother him. Then plant the turnips and rape the 1st week of Aug. if we start to get some rain. This should give me the 68 days needed for maturity. And follow up the bare spots in late sept with winter rye. Some people don't like the winter rye, but it comes up thick and the deer flock to it when the snow fly's. I find it to be an awesome plot for late gun and muzzle loader season. And its cheap ;D -
would like to pick up a summit open shot this yr. There compact and light weight only 15 lbs and the seat folds up against the tree to make more room for shooting. I had a viper but it was to heavy and bulky for bow hunting so I sold it. I still use the old blade type aluminum climber I picked up back in 94. Starting to get old and unsafe so its time for a new one.

Have seen 2 Bucks sporting nice racks in areas I can hunt so I'm a little excited for the season to get underway. Hopefully will be a change from last yr when I didn't even see a buck during the season. :'(

T/C Triumph and I love it. I got bored with shot gun, to easy, with sabot slugs and 4 more bullets if you miss with the 1st one it was just way to easy. Now the Triumph is getting to easy to harvest deer with. Would like to go to a nice sidelock with open sights for the challenge.

The video shows the blades do not fold forward and thus are barbed. If the animal try's to pull it out it will only open wider. Which may be good because it will just make a bigger hole causing more bleeding but is still illegal for use in NY. Use what you want but if you get checked by a Warden you will probably be fined in my opinion. And I agree with doc they seem very bulky, would need some serious stank and tuning behind them for them to work right.

If this weather stays the way it is I don't know if I can even plant in August. Will need to start getting some good rain before The brassicas can go in. Here are a couple of nice rubs from around the plot from last yr. -
I like to fossil hunt during the summer you can find lots of cool dead fossil critters around NY. I also do a little mushroom picking when I can get out.

Anyone know what actually happened with EmpireHunting .com forum ?
erussell replied to TheHunter's topic in General Chit Chat
Is this site related to empire hunting? When you search google this site comes up and says empire hunting forum. I think I like this forum better anyhow, its faster, easier to use, and easy to navigate. Good job to whomever it may concern. -

Isn't it still a little early to plant Brassica's for a fall plot. Everything I have ever read says not to plant till August. I have a great spot all cleared out and weed killer applied on. Just need to fertilize and lime it. I wanted to get it done a few months ago but just havent had a chance yet. Will plant with turnips down the middle and dwarf rape, winter rye, and oats around the rest of it to give them a little choice of what they want for dinner. Heres the before and after clearing pics. -

send letters for crossbows in NY
erussell replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
If crossbows are in ,AR is just around the corner if not already on the table to impliment. I would bet within the next 5 yrs you will see AR implimented in NYS. Just about every state hase some sort of AR already in place why is NY so far behind all the time. ??? -

I really don't know, I know they flourish in the Dacks so I guess all the Farm land that is turning back into woods is drawing them south. One of there favorite foods is very over populated around here. Porcupines. They are the only enemy of the porcupine, and they are adapted to flip them over and eat them. and there are alot of them around where I live.
