  1. I heard that you now have to take the bowhunter course in order to use one and a new crossbow privilege that you have to buy as well.
  2. you could probably also just buy some thick foam weatherstripping and lay it around both guns to fill in any of the space that the guns could possibly shift into......I've also seen where someone cut slits in the bottom foam in the general area area the gun would sit and snaked velcro straps under it that was used to fasten the gun in place.
  3. I missed that, sorry....it just struck me as a funny statement on its own.
  4. why would anyone poke fun? that's exactly what hunting should be about......in my book anyway.
  5. I almost got a really big buck last year too, and almost a really big bear as well...........I just chose to be there on different days then them.
  6. then maybe it wasn't cut? I'll try to post some pics tonight.
  7. how about this, at least 3 points on one side not including brow points, with a total spread not less than 15", and you have to make sure it's at least 2.5 years old? but, if it's more than 4.5 years old you can kill it even if it doesn't meet any of the previous listed requirements? figure that should keep it nice and simple....and hunting licenses should be priced according to what area you hunt....on a sliding scale of course, if you hunt in an area with low deer densities and no doe tags, you pay a very small license fee.......an area with high deer density and numerous doe tags?..you pay a premium for that license.
  8. so what's the conclusion, are most for or against antler restrictions?
  9. I'll see what I can do as far as pics.....it is not in what you would call original condition......looks like the barrel was shortened and a new front sight added, and has a sporter stock of unknown manufacter, and someone did a horrendous tapping job for the scope mounts on the side of the receiver that you can tell is off just by eyeballing it....it was my grandfathers and one of the last wood stocked guns I own, just has that good gun feeling to it, so I'm gonna get it back in action for next year.
  10. I'm gonna have it checked out and then cleaned up and put back into use.....thanks for your help
  11. "CE" on top of receiver nearest barrel and "43" on rear near action.......... I came up with 1943 by J.P. Sauer and Sohn Gewehrfabrik, Suhl. it also has a marking on the barrel near the receiver "fxo aw" that I can't find an explanation for. http://home.scarlet.be/p.colmant/k98kmarkings.htm
  12. oh yeah, screw on a trigger guard failing?.......I'd be on the phone asap with that story.
  13. hmmmm, you just gave me an idea for tomorrow's hunt...........anyone have an XL Girl Scout uniform for sale?
  14. since you brought it up, I've often wondered if deer sometimes daydream as they amble unsuspectingly through the woods..........I'm sure we've all seen the deer walking around and then seen the "oh crap" look on its face when it sees you at the last second because it wasn't paying attention.
  15. you may not be missing much, I've done out of State / Country hunts and each time the best part was the scenery and the trip getting there............each time I said to myself that hunting Whitetail is more exciting and fulfilling, but that's just me.
  16. well obviously they are "THE BEST" if you base it on everyone placing them on a pedestal like they are some type of mystical creature.............I think at this point they've surpassed the Unicorn.
  17. the "Eagle on the Globe" stamping that I described earlier is actually an eagle on a circle that has a swastika inside.......found photos of stampings on the internet.
  18. There's dozens of County Parks open for hunting in Suffolk County....never been an issue, and very few if any are secluded.
  19. to be quite honest, at this point I really don't care if they make those changes........we had antler restrictions shoved down our throats 3 years ago, I don't need to shoot more than one buck a year, and certainly don't spend all those weeks Upstate hunting deer.....not many older guys with only a few good years left in them have 5 years to wait for the AR's to start paying off, and it's tough enough to get kids involved in hunting, so when they have to pass up bucks it will only make it worse........and remember that not every area has doe tags for every hunter every year......time to devote more time to spring turkey season.
  20. yes, I know of a few who have those rules..........also know a few who get doe tags with no intention of using or allowing another to use them..I will add, that these guys are not big buck hunters and really had no desire to grow them, they enjoyed hunting, seeing deer any shooting legal bucks of any size.....they always allowed new hunters to shoot any deer they chose.
  21. seems like the only rational thing to do to make everyone happy is to put the choice of what to shoot back in the hands of the individual hunter...that way no one can bitch about what they can or can't do.
  22. and I just pulled out my other one and the receiver is stamped "Mauser Werke A.B. Oberndorf"
