  1. went to a local gunshop, Bensen's down on L.I., my brother went with a SBE II as well, so they gave us a good deal....cheaper or just on par with the local Dick's..the Montelfeltro was a nice gun too, just didn't want the Walnut stock and blued metal as we do a lot of open water duck hunting on the salt water. The standard Vinci was nice too, but figured for the extra $200 or so I'd go for the super with the 3.5 option......not an easy decision with 6 or so nice guns of laid out in front of you........no doubt we could have save about $300 between the two if we bought from Gunbroker or the equivalent.
  2. if any of you get a chance, go on youtube and check out some of the interviews he did prior to his death....pretty interesting and eye opening to hear things from his point of view.
  3. I saw a proposal, may have been the last go round, that wanted one buck of any legal size and one that had to meet an antler restriction....that sounded pretty reasonable.
  4. besides the dopey comment I got? don't have the time or desire to go back and dig it up...but I got one.
  5. went with the Super Vinci, all the Benellis were very nice to look at and handle.....in the end I liked the way it broke down and the camo finish...most likely will never use the 3.5", but nice to have if I ever decide to.
  6. I never quite understand why people bring in what they can do out of State into a NYS discussion.....hell, I can legally use prostitutes in Nevada, and smoke pot in Colorado......but still, never quite get their point.
  7. I'm gonna check out the local shops and see what they have......my brother is more than likely going to pick up a new gun at the same time, hopefully they'll knock a few bucks off if we buy two, if not I'm going to shop around.......still got a few months, so in no rush.
  8. no, I just went to their website and they still have it....I like the finishes offered in the other two, they make a Vinci that's 3" max and the Super Vinci that is 3.5.
  9. ok, so I decided that this week I am going to go out and finally get the new Turkey gun I have been promising myself, it will primarily be used for turkey and occasionally waterfowl. I've pretty much narrowed it down to a Benelli SBE II or Vinci, just the standard 28' or 26' barrel, not the special turkey gun....anyone have any experience with these two?
  10. maybe older deer wearing bifocals?
  11. maybe you can find a market for those "Jesus" guided arrows and bullets, can you come up with a more ridiculous explanation?......if you ain't that good, don't take the shot.
  12. I wrote the DEC regarding AR's when they were being proposed for my zone...........never got a reply or acknowledgement either way, so I doubt they listen to the lone voice. I do think that when they get bombarded with form letters that are sent from a particular special interest group they do listen to an extent, especially when they also grab the ear of a politician who helps get their voice heard....
  13. I think the point was to show that other Counties may take note that a Country that allows it's citizens to be armed may not be one that can be easily rolled over......whether it's factual or not is another story. I would hope that there would be some impact, as minimal as it may be, should something like that ever happen. There certainly is no threat of that from totally unarmed citizens.......would there ever be an organized militia of organized citizens forming an effective "mini army"? doubtful, but I also doubt many would go down without at least attempting to defend themselves.......and yes, there is a degree of daydreaming and fantasizing to that idea.
  14. they're still small enough in January that you won't see them unless you look too closely.......
  15. safety aside, I would think there has got to be a substantial amount of violators being caught engaged in illegal activity to have prompted this....or one would think anyway.
  16. yeah, we all knew there was going to be a few who looked at the crossbow as some kind of "superweapon" that was snuck into archery season........guess we found one, or should I say he found us?
  17. I didn't see too much putting down from either side in this thread, mostly guys just strongly backing their feelings.....except for the one guy who basically said guys who say they would still hunt with the same passion are full of crap.
  18. unfortunately, the mandatory AR's that are already in place and the ones that are being proposed to go Statewide, only cater to one side of the "antler" -vs- "any deer" hunters......I don't have the time to go back and dig up where DEC has said AR's are more of a request by certain groups of hunters than a biological need, nor do I care to, so I can understand why there would be some resentment from the "any Deer" hunter's if DEC goes ahead and imposes them Statewide......Big difference if you can say "you do what you want and I'll do what I want" as opposed to "now you have to do what I want", so basically they pitted two groups of hunters with different goals against each other.........at this point I don't care either way, I've been hunting with AR's for the past three years Upstate and don't see them ever rescinding them so it is what it is, luckily I have other options with places to go.
  19. just toss them aside like the rest of the guts.....
  20. now, I've heard of guys lowering their standards on what deer they'll kill the later the season goes on, but someone taking riskier shots based on the later in the season it is, is a totally new one.
  21. I wonder if it was loaded.....maybe the ammo could give an indication of when it was left?
  22. actually, you make a strong argument as to why they shouldn't be included in archery season.
  23. interesting, was at a deer check this year and the Biologist was talking to an intern that was helping out........he was explaining that the black chin strap on the deer's lower jaw is an ancestral trait that's purpose was to make the tusks stand out more.
