  1. I learned not to abandon birds that have henned up first thing in the morning.........an hour or two later they'll be out looking for more. I actually had more action between 8 and 12 than in any of the early morning hours.

  2. This should all be a non-issue for anyone NOT voting for Cuomo... even if I liked her I wouldn't vote for him... so it matters little to me... as for the original post... the NRA gave her a score based on her track record which has been great in past years... she has been very pro gun.

the Lt. Governor is a lame duck position unless something should happen to the Governor.....please don't vote based on her beliefs, the chances of her having any effect on Cuomo's position is slim to none.

  3. So...........back in the 30's, 40's and 50's there were anti hunters and they were harassing hunters?  I'm gonna hang the BS flag on THIS one.

Oh heck, I can't find the BS flag.

yeah, I don't buy that one either........way back in the 30's they issued pins to be worn.

  4. I think the way the law reads, is that if you're not wearing it where required, the presumption is that you're unlicensed and can be ticketed as such regardless of whether or not you have your license and backtag somewhere on you.....I have a copy of the ECL law and will take a look when I get a chance to confirm if anyone is interested.

  5. stopped in to Dick's sporting goods and looked at the Stoeger, didn't really like the feel of it.....then I looked at a Benelli Super Black Eagle, looks like I'm going to spend a bit more than I anticipated, just gotta unload a few guns I never use to cover the cost.

  6. I have always said that we don't really own the land. We simply rent it from the government. The taxes are the rent, and the government is the landlord. Don't believe it, just try to make changes to the property without all the proper permits (permissions) and see how quick the landlord (government) sets you straight. And if you don't pay the rent (taxes), they will indeed evict you. I never look down on renters anymore. It could be that they are the ones that have got it right.

And yes the law is generally on the side of the perpetrators. It's been that way for a long time, and not just regarding property owner's rights either.

that's pretty amazing isn't it? you could have spent a million dollars on a house and property, fully pay it off, and it can be taken away for unpaid taxes, and they simply auction it off for the amount of the taxes that are owed..unreal.

  7. Did they offer you a useless hat or bag too? I am a life member also they call constantly.

the crap they send as a gift is embarrassing..........they should save that money, and the money they waste on sending junk mail to people who are already members, on educating and recruiting non-members..as for the phone calls? I just hang up at this point.

  8. Sometimes I wonder too, that to really answer this question. Whether it's to appreciate where you're from, or to understand that the grass is greener... that you'd have to have spent some time elsewhere.

I hate to say it, but I would bet the ability to own ANY type of firearm under the sun is probably pretty low on many peoples scale of what makes where they live a great place...the fact that I can draw a 200 mile radius circle around my home and pretty much partake in most of what this state has to offer is appealing to me.......taxes, cost of living and politics suck, but that aside it's not a terrible place to live.

  9. T/C Pro Hunter... Both the 25-06 and 338 win mag..

As for cost... It really is not as bad as you think... I bought the 5 day hunt at an NWTF banquet during the live auction 2 years ago... But I can tell you, there is no place you can go and shoot 7 big game animals for under 10 Grand.. AND.. remember, if you don't draw blood on the animals.. you don't pay for it.. Show me a place that you can hunt big game like that??? And you can go for a lot less... Last time I shot 6 animals for $6000.00... Still amazing...

that's close to the price you'll pay for a quality, one animal hunt in the U.S. these days..........good deal for sure.

  10. just out of curiosity, does NY have the massive flights of Doves that some of the States were it is popular have? I haven't seen it, so my exposure to Doves is a few pair here and there just like any other bird.....if that's the case throughout NY, I can see exactly what Doc is saying, the majority see them as songbirds and not a viable game species...myself included.

  11. So years ago, there was an occasional murder, but it was not a daily event. I never locked a door until I was mostly grown and even then we didn't really have to worry about break-ins.  In the cities, gang wars usually were really fist fights. That was pretty much the limit on any kinds of violent confrontations. There was always complete respect for police, elders, parents, teachers and each other. Sure there was the occasional trouble maker, but nobody whipped out their gun and started shooting people over their bicycle or sneakers or car.

So what the hell has happened over the decades. Whatever it was, new laws have not been the answer, because we sure have had a pile of them added on and each day violence gets worse. If passing laws was the answer, why do we still have a growing problem? As in-love with studies and surveys as we are, how come nobody has studied the heck out this evolving violent society and tried to come up with any real answers that make more sense than banning and restricting guns? It seems that people are always looking for an easy answer, and trying to find ways to blame some in-animate object. I guess that's easier than finding and working at solving the real underlying causes.

it's a total breakdown of society as we once knew it.......just look around and see what people are doing today as opposed to 25 years ago, everyone has their faces planted in their smart phones, kids spending hours on end playing video games, nobody knows their neighbors anymore, the days of the stay at home mom who raises her own child are pretty much gone, if someone's kid does something wrong it's never the kids fault, the Police who are trying to do the right thing have to answer to every silly complaint, this past Memorial Day I was driving around and was totally shocked by the lack of people flying The American Flag, years ago it was odd if someone didn't fly one, to me that say's a lot..........they can pass all the laws they want and at this point it will make zero difference because too many people no longer care.

  12. I'm thinking that unless you are dealing with extreme cases, it is not likely that you can successfully come up with rule-of-thumb mental diagnosis that can serve as a litmus test for legal gun sales. How many times have we read interviews with friends and acquaintances of killers that came up with this kind of quote: "Gosh, he seemed like a real nice normal person". What the heck, sometimes a single event can send people over the edge.

I think that mental illness only comes into play in a small number of the gun crimes we hear about, mainly these extreme mass killings.........I'm sure there are many killings that were carried out by people who by all standards were your normal everyday person who you would never think capable of something like that until something sets them off.
