anybody hear back from him? seems to have died out.
-
and yet I can't remember any politician suggesting better care for and control of the mentally ill...........maybe they should be forced to register with the government so we can better track them.
-
I'd be more than happy to sit in the woods and "waste" some time in September looking for a bear........the amount of time I've spend hunting not seeing anything I could shoot is far greater than the amount of time that I've actually had shot opportunities..........and I don't see the bear populations anywhere near the levels that would yet NEED baiting to control the population.......one step at a time.

does anyone one have any experience with Stoeger shotguns? I was looking at possibly getting a M3000 or M3500, will be used for turkey and waterfowl......any info would be appreciated.
-
and, I would be careful if someone you don't know attempts to set up a deal without doing it by the book.......you never know who's trolling the internet looking for people looking to sell guns.........have you looked into gunbroker?
-
yes, all private sales of firearms must be done through an FFL holder..........not so for the ammo and accessories.

I thought it was just me, but I found 2 or 3 rubs while Turkey hunting that were not there in February.....

I like the sound of the early supplemental firearms season in some of those southern WMU's.

Honestly, no, I do not...
I was in an assembly members office yesterday about a different issue and they were more interested in talking about the SAFE Act and coyotes with me... I went online and basically verified what I was told and reported it here in this thread.
I have expressed my concerns with habit of sportsmen of getting on the wrong trail and creating traditional myths that stick for generations. We need to learn our crap. I am not excluding myself from that, although I really would prefer concentrating on ecology and not politics.
Another thing, are you not from Skelo's and/or Klein's part of the world? Ever think of driving down to their offices and getting a little (friendly) dialogue going with them?
I was commenting on someone else's post saying that modern politics can no longer effectively get things done, I was just making a general comment as to how quickly something recently got done that drastically changed the face of NY gun laws...........those two are way west of me.
-
The senate and assembly "leaders", who are Skelos and Klein had major role in this...
Per Wikipedia:
"In 2013 Dean Skelos, as senate leader was responsible for suspending senate rules and bringing the NY SAFE Act to the floor, he later voted for the SAFE Act and advocated its passage."
Jeffery Klein, the assembly leader probably did the same thing in the assembly, but that is merely a guess.
Skelos is a senate republican from district 9 which is a section on Long Island near the towns of Freeport and Far rockaway. Klein is a democrat ( or independent democrat some crap like that) who represents assembly district 34 which is the Bronx area.
Before you all go and try to beat them up with an NRA flag, keep this in mind: Nothing moves in the environmental conservation committee until it gets a green light from Grisanti and Sweeney. Then, if a bill passes those committees it will not move to a vote by the general floor unless Skelos and Klein authorizes it to.
So, I keep hearing this catch phrase about "one man". You have used it so has western NY buck hunter and so has the NY outdoor news. Maybe you are right, but please reconcile what you say with the process relating to the role of the so-called leaders and the statement from wikpedia about Skelos.
come on, you know what I was getting at.........I'll rephrase, "a handful of politicians changed the face of NYS gun laws in a very short period of time"....better?
-
of course politics can make a big change in our State, look what one man did to our gun laws pretty much overnight, sometimes it's surprising how quickly things can change...........

the bow season was extended yes. but not till 3 years after the last (sometimes best weekend because of the rut) of bow season was removed for the Saturday gun opener. Then the youth weekend was added, and now crossbows. I know this sounds like whining. But all 3 of these points are facts. So short of a mosquito infested extra 2 weeks in October. What has archery done to hurt gun hunters? Other than increasing license sales adding to additional funds to the NYSDEC to help manage the sport we love.
If you really want to complain about the gun season, compare the length of our gun season to those of some of the more sought after states. Some are only a week long.
I hear exactly what your saying, and I'm not a complainer or a die hard bowhunter, but like you said, it's just a simple fact that the Archery season is the only one that has taken any type of loss......they can keep the first two weeks of Oct, I'd prefer they give it to crossbows and the youth and leave the middle and end of the month the way it was.

I just saw that Cuomo picked his running mate....she's from the Buffalo area and he hopes this will help him win over upsate voters.
-
The only problem I see is putting it up on a social media site..........that's some funny stuff.
-
in my opinion, the people who are pretty much content with the way things are really don't make much of an impact at an election time, it's those who are fighting for a cause and are very passionate about it that make the difference.......

The Safe Act Ammo provision states that it covers COMMERCIAL TRANSACTIONS ONLY. It only effects licensed sellers of ammo.
it would be nice to have them say there is no restriction on transfer of ammo between private parties...........I was wondering at what point do they consider you a "seller" of ammo?
-
The problem with selling items like guns, is that you will have 100 guys trying to low-ball you, before you get one who is willing to give you anything close to what you want for it. Multiply this by the amount of guns your godfather has, and it becomes a ROYAL pain in the a$$ to sell them. I know that I will never sell my guns, whether I use them or not. Even if I got top dollar for them, how much would that really help me? My kids can have them once I check out, and if they don't want them, they could dispose of them any way they want. I surely won't worry about it now, and most certainly won't be worrying about it then. LOL
that's why I sold a few rarer ones on gunbroker, put them on the site for what you want and let them sell themselves..........no talking to anyone till the sale is final.
-
If he has some military issued guns, you really should look into another means of sale for those, I got rid of a few on gunbroker and it's all about finding the right person who really knows what they're looking at and the true value of it and you'll get top dollar......especially if you're in no rush to sell.
-
U.S. Postal service will not ship ammo, I just shipped via UPS and they said it's totally legal.
-
do you have an FFL holder who's willing to help with the transfer of ownership?
-
I don't know but the answer is prolly on the safe act website under the FAQ
I didn't find much help when I checked that out......pretty much just covered business sales of ammo, unless I missed it.
-
I wonder if bearded hens can even reproduce, I've heard that antler doe are unable to........wonder if the same holds true for turkey.

I read in the very unbiased paper known as the outdoor news that crossbows are excluded from Monroe county as well. Anyone else see this or confirm it?
I think that any area that was previously archery only will not allow crossbows......I don't know if Monroe County falls into this category.

When I moved here I was kind of surprised that we get two spring gobblers and length of fall season. Back in pa we got three days in wmu in Fall and one gobbler unless you bought additional tag before season started
yeah, to be quite honest I don't see why anyone needs to be allowed kill two Toms in the spring or more than one of either sex in the fall..........but that's just my thoughts.
Get ready for more gun control BS......

well, I can't say I'm against certain people owning guns.....guns aren't the problem, it's some of the people who are currently allowed to have them unchecked is the problem....and that proposal makes more sense then just a blanket law against certain guns that are deemed dangerous, like the old saying goes, "guns don't kill people, people kill people"
