  1. I guess by those standards, I'm fairly unsuccessful ................looks like I've been kidding myself for the last 32 years, thanks for the wake up call.
  2. that's the chance you take when you set up on public land........I would never leave stuff there, especially since it's public and if I'm not actively hunting it why would I deprive another the chance to hunt it by leaving my stuff there to show them that the spot is "taken"?
  3. good advice......deer haven't really evolved much, they are basically the same animal that our great grandfathers killed without any high tech, expensive gadgetry...it's the hunters that have complicated things, not the deer.
  4. put the time in and scout, if you're in an unproductive area, you may be wasting your time.........
  5. shot #2 sounds like she was facing you and looking at you............terrible shot to take, thank god you missed that one............
  6. there's only two sports, hunting and fishing......everything else, baseball, football, hockey, etc.....is just a game.
  7. if you have time to get one and don't mind spending a few bucks, check out the Hunter Safety System line of harnesses............I got tired of wrestling with the one that came with my stand and splurged last year, well worth it and it will last as long as you hunt.
  8. how many of you guys tie the climber part to the base? I started doing it last year...........it turned out to be a good idea, as it keeps you from totally losing the platform should it ever slip.
  9. yeah, he looks like a real scammer.............
  10. I did a search on the history of the 270 cartridge.....I found some sources saying it's based on the 30-06 and others the 30-03.........although the majority say 30-06.
  11. I guess trail cameras go hand in hand with the antler craze, if guys knew the area they hunt and were just interested in hunting and getting a shot at any buck or any deer, would there really be a need for them?
  12. yup, the spirit of the deer hunt is slowly dying.........every time I hear score or G2 or whatever you call those things, I just want to puke...
  13. how about doing that is illegal no matter what time of year it is?
  14. There are two carcass tags for the fall season. Use "statewide" tag in any turkey hunting area. Use "two bird area" tag only in an area with a 2 bird bag limit. Look on the next page for the map showing the two bird bag limit area. Immediately after taking a turkey, you must fill out the carcass tag in ink and attach it to the bird.
  15. http://www.newsday.com/news/region-state/thomas-dinapoli-says-inmates-in-new-york-jails-received-benefits-1.6207082
  16. that's true as well, I bought a T/C Venture in .308, heavier gun than most, but little recoil..........I bought my son a Ruger M77 Ultralight in .308, the recoil on that will bring a tear to your eyes, he's been shooting the managed recoil ammo out of it as a result..
  17. it sounds like you described the sandy areas that are all scrub pine....I'd follow some of those trails and see if they lead to any Oak Trees, which should be dropping acorns.
  18. I would assume there are deer trails leading to this open sandy area.....can't hurt to sit there a time or two, but next time you scout, try to find the trails that are leading to this area and see where they come from or go to, you may find a food source or a bedding area..........do you have a treestand? hunting from the ground is gonna be tough unless you have a ground blind...........are you hunting L.I.?
  19. I shot a 30-06 up until last year and it was never enjoyable............it was not a recoil friendly rifle, so last year I bought a .308, much less recoil......getting a rifle that is enjoyable to shoot is more important than caliber, and it will show in your accuracy.
  20. Here's one bit of advice I can offer, whatever you decide to get, wait till after the winter season and see if the dealer has any floor models they are selling............I did that a few years ago and literally got 2 stoves for the price of one, and there was nothing wrong with either of them.
  21. if this is legit, what you should do is post this request on as many hunting websites you can find...........after you're done, take all the rude remarks you got from the "hunting family" and publish a story about it.
  22. yes, hopefully they'll do a much better job of polling hunters as to what they want, and maybe the hunter's who didn't speak up for whatever reason, and were surprised by the AR's being imposed, will wake up and say something..............
  23. hopefully the deer don't know who the anti hunting neighbor is........
  24. I just thank God she didn't steal a Safe Act sign as she was leaving.............
