well, if you're hunting 10-31 till 9-10, that gives you almost a full year.......should be able to get something like that in that time frame...............
-
I would rather see a one buck a year limit instead of AR's, I don't see how taking two mature bucks out of the herd is better than taking one smaller buck........we had AR's imposed in our area last year, although not a fan, it really doesn't bother me at this point because I have taken enough deer that I can let smaller bucks walk without getting too upset.

I agree, something doesn't seem right.

#1- gut it where it is, just make sure the guts aren't gonna be in a spot that may offend other's, remember that other non-hunters use the area. #2- I don't think it's mandatory, used to be if you wanted a bonus tag you checked it in, but now they have a way of getting the bonus tag by electronically sending them a copy of your filled tag (if I'm wrong about it not being mandatory, someone correct me). #3- most places don't require an appointment, do you have a place in mind? if so, give them a call ahead of time to find out.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/09/25/hidden-camera-catches-culprit-taking-man-second-amendment-sign/ this article seems to explain the full story a little better......doesn't seem like the cop took it upon himself to steal anything.

sitting in my stand and watching another bowhunter "stalking" through the woods with a nocked arrow.............I find all the other critters somewhat entertaining.

I was reading on DEC's website were they talk about the steady decline in hunting accident's, and they give credit to Hunter Safety Education, I couldn't help but think that Hunter Safety Education is not what's solely responsible for this, but actually the way "we" hunt that contributes more to this trend............for the most part, gone are the days were groups of guys got together and still hunted, did drives and generally did a lot more moving around, nowadays it seems that hunting is becoming more of a solitude sport and the majority plant themselves in a treestand or blind and sit tight for the day, the few deer camps that I can remember have all but disappeared or been reduced to a few guys......make sense?

you really should be getting your heart rate up to some extent with whatever activity you're doing............if you're just meandering along at a leisurely pace, you're not accomplishing much.
-
stumbling in blindly on opening day isn't very thoughtful of the others who may have put in time scouting and are already set up............at least wait till mid day and find yourself a spot for the afternoon.
-
I agree.........I'm off all next week and doubt I'll go out.
-
yup, I bet most scopes are installed with the rings tightened down way too much............I just recently bought a torgue screwdriver and while tightening down the screws to manufacturer specs, said too myself "this doesn't seem near tight enough"..........now I know why all the scopes I've installed in the past have ring marks on them.
-
I'd rather get there in 20 minutes than not at all........keep at it.

I shoot with iron sights on my T/C Hawken, but I have a scope on my Traditions Vortex...with the modern muzzleloader, I've already thrown the "traditional aspect" out the window so why handicap myself with iron sights.

latest tally: Agree = 15 Disagree = 43 Undecided = around 12 or so.
-
I try to avoid doing anything but deer hunting when that's what I'm up there for...........plenty of open season after deer closes, and always the possibility one could walk past while you're in your stand.
-
you're exactly right, that's why I always thought it would help if the State was allowed to log off some of it's mature woods...........but, the odds of that happening are pretty slim.

Getting Game Meat back from New Foundland
jjb4900 replied to Meat Hunter's topic in Out of New York Hunting
I've heard of guys freezing it solid, wrapping it in a sleeping bag, loading it in a large duffle bag and adding it to their checked baggage........maybe you can ship the majority of your other gear home via UPS and bringing the meat on the plane as baggage........I think no matter how you try to get it home it's gonna cost you. -
