I would rather see a one buck a year limit instead of AR's, I don't see how taking two mature bucks out of the herd is better than taking one smaller buck........we had AR's imposed in our area last year, although not a fan, it really doesn't bother me at this point because I have taken enough deer that I can let smaller bucks walk without getting too upset.

I think I'd be having a chat with Dad & Grandpa....
I agree, something doesn't seem right.
-
#1- gut it where it is, just make sure the guts aren't gonna be in a spot that may offend other's, remember that other non-hunters use the area.
#2- I don't think it's mandatory, used to be if you wanted a bonus tag you checked it in, but now they have a way of getting the bonus tag by electronically sending them a copy of your filled tag (if I'm wrong about it not being mandatory, someone correct me).
#3- most places don't require an appointment, do you have a place in mind? if so, give them a call ahead of time to find out.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/09/25/hidden-camera-catches-culprit-taking-man-second-amendment-sign/
this article seems to explain the full story a little better......doesn't seem like the cop took it upon himself to steal anything.

sitting in my stand and watching another bowhunter "stalking" through the woods with a nocked arrow.............I find all the other critters somewhat entertaining.

O-kay Mr. BIGOT LOL!!! The line of people who will defend, rationalize for and make excuses for absolute scum will never end.
that wasn't meant for you.......hope I didn't imply it was

"If they don't like it they would break the law" Say what?? Are you people not aware of the number of people falsely accused...erroneously convicted...even wrongly executed? I realize compassion is in short supply in today's world, but I still feel sorry for you!
he should ship all the pedophiles to your neighborhood............they're probably all wrongly jailed, maybe you can help them out.

Anybody else ever hear of a ticket being written for failure to report ??
http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/79965.html
you'll find a few written for that on this press release.

Wait a minute here....I'm sure that I have read that hunters are required to report thier kills..
HOWEVER, in my 50 years of hunting I have NEVER heard of anybody getting a ticket for NOT reporting thier kills..
Anybody else..??...
I've heard of it, usually goes along with someone who has an illegally tagged deer to begin with....

I guess the real answer would be NOT what WE think is the most prevalent violation, but what violation gets the most summonses issued by the DEC. With the few DEC officers out there I somehow don't think violations like baiting, shooting before/after legal time, etc. in most cases ever get summonses, although it's most prevalent. Most often issued summonses I think would go to the incorrectly filled out tags, since they are probably the easiest for a DEC officer to nail a hunter on.
you're probably correct, as a lot of tickets are written when deer are left at the butcher........ECO's make it a point to stop at these places and have the opportunity to check multiple deer at one time.

I was reading on DEC's website were they talk about the steady decline in hunting accident's, and they give credit to Hunter Safety Education, I couldn't help but think that Hunter Safety Education is not what's solely responsible for this, but actually the way "we" hunt that contributes more to this trend............for the most part, gone are the days were groups of guys got together and still hunted, did drives and generally did a lot more moving around, nowadays it seems that hunting is becoming more of a solitude sport and the majority plant themselves in a treestand or blind and sit tight for the day, the few deer camps that I can remember have all but disappeared or been reduced to a few guys......make sense?
-
you really should be getting your heart rate up to some extent with whatever activity you're doing............if you're just meandering along at a leisurely pace, you're not accomplishing much.
-
stumbling in blindly on opening day isn't very thoughtful of the others who may have put in time scouting and are already set up............at least wait till mid day and find yourself a spot for the afternoon.

Is it just me or are there others out there that wished we would go back to a 10/15 bow opener..
Don't get me wrong, I love to hunt and bowhunting is my strongest passion, but I think it has made the season to long and has extended it into a period that is generally warmer and less "hunter friendly"..
You can do a lot of "damage" heading out when it is warm... getting all sweaty and then climbing up a stand, broadcasting a strong scent can really hurt your chances later in the year.. Sure it can be that warm 2 weeks later, but the chances get less and less.
I am not trying to "rain on anyone's parade".. I just liked things the way the used to be. Anyone else feel the same way?
BTW... I will be out there, just because I can't not unt when me buddies are.. the "pull" is to great
I agree.........I'm off all next week and doubt I'll go out.

I had them on a old 30-30 I had and had no problems at all with them.I feel that most people don't know how to install a scope to save their azz(not saying that to you just a generalization). Most people don't threadlock screws down and most dont evenly torque the screws.
yup, I bet most scopes are installed with the rings tightened down way too much............I just recently bought a torgue screwdriver and while tightening down the screws to manufacturer specs, said too myself "this doesn't seem near tight enough"..........now I know why all the scopes I've installed in the past have ring marks on them.
-
I'd rather get there in 20 minutes than not at all........keep at it.
-
I shoot with iron sights on my T/C Hawken, but I have a scope on my Traditions Vortex...with the modern muzzleloader, I've already thrown the "traditional aspect" out the window so why handicap myself with iron sights.

latest tally:
Agree = 15
Disagree = 43
Undecided = around 12 or so.

I try to avoid doing anything but deer hunting when that's what I'm up there for...........plenty of open season after deer closes, and always the possibility one could walk past while you're in your stand.
-
I have friends at work that hunt and complain they don't see deer like they use too. When I ask where they hunt they tell me the same place they have for last 20 years. My next question usually results in puzzled looks. What have you done to the property to help them? The answer is sometimes food plots, usually its nothing. DOES ANYONE REALISE THAT WOODS MATURE??? The brushy draw they once hunted is now 10In diameter trees?? All habitat is not created equal, if your not seeing deer in the area your in don't blame three DEC look at how the habitat has changed! Food plots won't help if the deer need to come thru open woods for a mile. They might come but it will be at night. If you can see 2oo yards. How far do you think a deer can see.?? Maybe if they are pushed/driven. But before blaming someone (dec, neighbor, tresspassers, coyotes, demorcats, republicans, ect) look at your habitat!!: deer are a factor of what a habitat can hold. just something to think about while your sitting in your stand asking yourself where have all the deer gone...
you're exactly right, that's why I always thought it would help if the State was allowed to log off some of it's mature woods...........but, the odds of that happening are pretty slim.
-
I've heard of guys freezing it solid, wrapping it in a sleeping bag, loading it in a large duffle bag and adding it to their checked baggage........maybe you can ship the majority of your other gear home via UPS and bringing the meat on the plane as baggage........I think no matter how you try to get it home it's gonna cost you.
-
What are the options for shipping or flying back with meat from New Foundland? What is most reasonably priced?
Anyone else going up this October?
I went back in 2002.......have you considered driving?

well, if you're hunting 10-31 till 9-10, that gives you almost a full year.......should be able to get something like that in that time frame...............
