almost like hooking up with a really attractive woman, and then finding out afterwards that your friends hired her to do it...............while enjoyable before you knew, after you found out it wouldn't be the accomplishment you thought it was.

Yep, a guy in NY tried it last year. It had nothing to do with him not being able to back it up though, the taxidermist knew the deer from the farm it was raised on, plus they aged the jawbone at 2 1/2.

I think these days, guys who take potential records usually photograph the kill site and have another person present to back up the validity of the kill just to avoid this type of skepticism...........wasn't there a story in NY last year where a guy tried to pull a fast one, and when asked to provide proof, was unable to back up his BS story and eventually he was outed as being full of crap?
-
I guess you have to check them at some point, how else would you know if there's anything in the area?
-
I guess it could be worse, there's plenty of guys who actually shoot the animals on enclosed game preserves, have them mounted and brag about them..........if taken fair chase without prior knowledge, I would probably mount it, bragging about it after learning the facts and if it was known to many the circumstances of how it came to be, would probably prevent me from doing so.

-
I would think they're pretty easy to find, try Cabela's or MidwayUSA.......it may not be something your local gunshop keeps in stock.
-
Just keep whining...That should get you lots of ducks..
haha....someone had to say it.
-
it would be helpful to know where you live and what career you think would make you happy..........I know people who live in great areas upstate, but the commute to work kills them, there's a lot of things to consider.
-
true but this issue would be hard to blame directly on cva. For all I know it could have been my fault. Maybe I double threaded it by mistake and that's the result..... who knows. but yes someone will say they told me so. all I care about is that CVA is taking care of it...
I had a similar story with a Ruger pistol, I messed it up royally and they fixed everything free of charge and even paid the return shipping.
-
Well that is just short sighted and shows you immaturity.
The conversation should go more like "hey honey it is about time to rearrange you shedule again this year and pick that third job back up. Deer season starts in 2 weeks and I want the kids to have a really nice Christmas. Oh and the new rifle I want is on lay away. here is the pick up ticket. No need to wrap it for me."
Geeeesh. gotta teach you guys everything.
Lol...I almost responded after the first sentence.....

What precisely? Different strokes for different folks, most certainly. Some people shoot bows they build and broadheads they knap.
One thing I will say, is that I haven't seen someone try one out, and then not like it (other than a product/service malfunction).
Merlot, I have alot of experience with commerical cams and specifically some MMS or data transfer cams of the type you are asking about.
What do you want to accomplish with one?
I would get zero enjoyment out of scouting from behind a computer screen, but that's just me.......I've been hunting my area long enough to know the productive spots, and am willing to roll the dice and take what is offered. I'm not obsessed with big antlers, and if that's the reason someone wants to do this fine, but not for me...........my guess is, if you're going this route you already know it's a good spot, otherwise you would have to travel up anyway and move the camera when you realize the area is non productive.

You are looking at the 2012 buck.
We're talking about the 2013 buck...someone posted the wrong buck on the first pic.
my mistake...
-
remember this, money isn't everything, but being broke your whole life can be just as stressful as having a well paying job that you're not entirely happy with...........imagine telling your wife and kids you're going hunting for a week and at the same time can't afford to take them on a vacation.

Huh? You smoking something?
It just happened and hasn't been put into a magazine yet.
the bottom of the story posted on the link says "check out the July 2013 of North American Whitetail"...that leads me to believe it was killed last year.........For the exclusive, inside story on how Keller adjusted his strategy on the fly and brought down one of Wisconsin’s biggest whitetails ever, check out the July 2013 issue of North American Whitetail.
-
what a small head for that rack though... can we confirm this isn't a penned in deer like the douche from watertown last year?
based on the no name magazine it's in I wouldn't be surprised.........or maybe it's a crossbow kill!

I have a 200 on trail cam.
pounds?
-
I have never owned a trail cam, but am considering a type of cam that transmits pics via internet. Kind of pricey, especially with people with sticky fingers lurking about. Wondered if there are people out there with some knowledge on this product. Thanks.
no..in my opinion it sucks the life right out of hunting.
-
both those pics are actually from the same county in WI according to AT.. both September bucks too.
I remember 10 years ago when a basket 8 was the standard 4 yr olds rack around where i hunt. slowly but surely it seems we're getting bigger and bigger racks off the same hills. I dont know if its weather related, better food or has to do with the decreased hunting pressure, but it seems like NY is creeping along. Hopefully in a few years us upstaters will get bucks the size you Long island guys pass!
tell you what, I'm from L.I. and I'd rather take a basket rack 8 upstate then a big L.I. buck.........tougher to accomplish and a better experience overall.....enjoy what you have.
-
What are you guys talking about? This buck is from 2012..... I don't see anything about a Wisconsin buck from 2013.
I was thinking this story was a little too new to be a 2013 kill.........usually these guys go into hiding until they find the person willing to pay the highest price for the story.
-
done and done I all ready tried some goose hunting they decided to stay out of range and then my dog hot injured had to take him to the vet. he's doing better now just waiting for sea-ducks to open now
I figured you've done it enough to know.........I haven't been duck hunting in years, do you need last year's stamp to hunt the early season? don't remember from what dates they're valid from.
-
BTW, the deadline on the application is August 31, but it has been extended to October 8th
that's a great idea and good work by those who are setting it up, how's the participation looking so far?
-
always good to hear about company's with good customer service, but of course now you're gonna have people telling you they warned you about buying a CVA.
-
did you guys get your Duck Stamps and register with HIP?
Would you?
