  1. thats the unfortunate by product of slow response times, embellishing a report to get them to respond faster. There was a case in LA a while back where someone stole a kids laptop and when he called the police he claimed the guy had a gun to get them to come out. They shot and killed the perp and he turned out to be unarmed. I don't mean to imply that you coached her to lie, your post just reminded me of that situation

many fail to realize that the responding Officer has no control over when the call is dispatched to them, that's controlled by the dispatch center...does anyone honestly believe the responding Officer holds a call for an hour or two after being assigned? I hope not.....

  2. Are you guy's against full inclusion?   If so, please explain why.

I have no problem with the guy who would use it and hunt in the same way they would bow hunt with their other archery gear....it's the clowns who proclaim it to be the best thing since sliced bread that make me leery...... taking shots that they aren't sure they can make, like you, and thanking god that it turned out well. If guys used it and hunted like the archery season was meant for, no problem....but, you're the poster boy for why some guys hate it.....I'm willing to bet that you make most legit crossbow advocates cringe when they read the crap you spew.....you just sound like a lazy guy who wants an easier way to kill a deer.

  3. I am looking at the body and the muzzle and the back.I have killed a few deer that were older than 5 according to the local biologist.I have also killed 3 yr olds that had the same attributes and were also aged by the biologist.A buddy shot a 270 lb deer that also looked similar. It was aged at 3.5.They grow quickly around here.Lots of crops for them to fatten up on.

not to mention the big dollar landscaping trees and shrubs.......

  4. I may be way off, but the back tags may be more for one hunter / landowner to identify people who are doing wrong, not so much for the benefit of the DEC......I realize that they may be hard to read and or get the #, but that's beside the point.

  5. wearing of "back" tag

season restrictions on when coyotes can be taken

    ....can eliminate those.

I want it harsher not eliminated, but trespass and poaching laws are useless as they are right now.  that's being worked on right now though; Senate Bill 4727 and Assembly Bill A7171.

the rest of what I can think of, I understand the reasoning behind it so I'm ok with it.

trespassing with a firearm should carry a bigger penalty.....

  6. I've been shooting Remington for years because it's affordable and more then adequate for deer hunting......I've dabbled in other brands but never found anything shockingly better that got me to change. Federal has also been a good shooter for what I do.

  7. NO area around here is unhuntable.Lots of people would be surprised where some recent "magazine deer" have REALLY been killed around here-and no I'm not talking out my ass.I know and have seen the facts.

Antlers make people do strange things for praise and glory.

you're 100% correct in that statement.....not every area is legally huntable, but some people have no limit as to what length they will go to kill a big deer.

  8. Not sure how to take that Pygmy...so I won't take it anyway.

Well I'll tell you...the next driver I call in for swerving all over the road...I hope it's one of your loved ones lives I may have saved from being destroyed by them getting hit. They can send the Thank you to Mrs busy body.

I wish I had a dollar for every crime that was solved or stopped because of a "busy body"......not quite the same as the person who goes snooping around to "find" stuff to call and report....too totally different things in my book

  9. Just a friendly suggestion: I would not post pics of this deer until he's dead on the ground. One person sees the pic-sends it to his buddy-who then sends it to his buddy-that guy spreads it around-someone recognizes the fence in the pic-gut pile on the neighbors lawn-deer shows up in the taxidermy shop-you are wondering wtf.

I'ts happened around here before-it will happen again.Doesn't matter if it is living in Mrs. Snufallufagus's backyard. If someone wants it-it will disappear.I have seen it first hand. Delete the pics

yup, someone had posted a deer that lived in a sump in Suffolk awhile back and I figured out where in no time....it's an unhuntable area (at least as far as I was concerned) so it didn't matter, but you're exactly right.

  10. Well not your land..but had it been mine...I'd be a tad crazed over the rock wall ,but over the edge on any tree/sapling cutting...so the stand would have come home with me...after I put up a note with my cell number...that  he could have gotten off any of my posted signs...saying I have the ladder and he can call so we can exchange his funds for the damage to my property for his tree stand...that I had contacted the police and informed them of the situation...

yeah, that's a special kind of scumb@g that will take apart a rock wall and chop down trees.............not too sure I would go too far out of my way to get him his stand back.

  11. Can you cite a few of the laws that are not in writing? Ignorance ususally does not cut it with the DEC-especially if you have obviously been at the game for a while.

pretty sure you would have to read the entire ECL to see all the laws that are in writing...........the regulation book you get with your license is just a very small portion of the laws.

  12. I've been saying for a long time that many greatly overestimate the amount of hunters who keep on top of new proposals and regulations.......like stated above, many, and probably the greater majority of license holders, take a very casual approach to it.........

  13. Baiting

2 or 3 deer hanging untagged in the barn or garage

    Jacking deer at night

Killing a deer prior to the opening of the season

Hunting on ground where you are not supposed to be

    Tresspassing and killing deer...etc,etc.

Have witnessed all of the above and have called for every one.It effects me.

It's a little different where I hunt than most areas.I don't think you should be selective when it comes to reporting violations-if you don't report them-you think it's OK and you are contributing to the problem.

Also interesting to note that NONE of the above incidents involved ANTLERLESS DEER.

so 1 untaged deer is ok?

  14. Actually, there are two linked illegal acts one being "baiting", and the other being "feeding". Both are illegal in almost all of NYS, and some materials can be considered to violate both. Piles of apples and corn for example could be considered to be baiting and feeding regardless of motives.

yes, both illegal....but, I'm still surprised at the number of people who don't know feeding deer is illegal......I would venture to guess that all hunters know that baiting is illegal (hopefully), but maybe not so much in the feeding area?....I would talk to him first and enlighten him before taking further action. But, then you tip your hand if the authorities are called....such a dilemma, what's a man to do?

  15. I would talk to him if it really bothers you before I would call the authorities...........wayyyy too many people screw up relationships with neighbors by calling the Police before making an effort to take care of it on their own in a friendly type way. Although it's wrong, how many guys post trail camera pictures of deer with bait tossed in front of the camera with no ill intention other then trying to see what's in the area?...we see it all the time, and he may very well have no intention of hunting over it, nothing worse than an angry neighbor.

  16. Cool...Must have been a late brood..The young ones should be about as big as their mother now..

I saw a late brood this morning myself..A hen turkey with 8-10 poults about the size of pheasants..

brought me back to the days I used to hunt Quail and quite honestly that's what I thought they were at first.....wasn't until I saw mom that I realized they were Grouse.

  17. a mother Grouse and about 8-10 young ones, we pulled into the driveway and as we were walking to the house a bunch of birds took off from the tall grass at the edge of the woods and flew into the trees.....the little ones were about the size of Quail and landed in nearby trees, we went inside and watched as they slowly flew down and regrouped. I have never seen one baby Grouse let alone that many, cool stuff to say the least.

  18. There still is a burden of proof of guilt. I would love to see a ticket given to me for hunting within 150' of a buddy's barn and get that ticket. That might just be fun to toy around with.

yup, how can they prove you didn't have consent?.......they would have to subpoena all the landowners and have them confirm you didn't have their permission....much along the lines that if you owned the land you would have to carry proof of same, I don't see it happening.
